Sarah Palin is interviewed without trap door "gotchas".

Carl Cameron interviewed Sarah Palin without asking any of these questions:

"What is the name of Pakistan's President?"

"Name a Supreme Court decision you disagreed with. QUICK! Don't think about it!"

"If Russia invades Georgia do we respond by launching all of our nukes?"

Here is part of the interview.

"Trapdoor gotchas" = questions

by OneHitKill on 10/04/2008 06:00:02 AM EST

Oh yea those hard questions like  what paper do you read.

She couldnt think of ANY supreme court cases besides  Roe V Wade??

What about THIS one?

The Supreme Court on Wednesday reduced a $2.5 billion punitive damages award against energy giant Exxon for its role in an infamous 1989 maritime oil spill off the coast of Alaska.

After all Palin is an energy expert.

what a fucking joke.

Republicans portray the government as the enemy. Then when they take over, they prove it.

Ken, weren't you calling for increased scrutiny of Barack in the primaries?  Didn't you say that the MSM was all over Hillary but gave Barack a pass for all of his "huge blunders?"  Weren't you calling for more people to look into Barack's connection with Ayers, with Wright, with James Johnson?

What's good for the goose is good for the gander.  If you want to dig through Barack's trash, then get ready to have Palin's first grade essay on what she did for summer vacation disected for any pro-rape screed.

Oh, and I owe you an apology.  I was misquoting you in my first paragraph.  It turns out it was Limbaugh who said all those things.  We both know you'd never just recycle EIB talking points...

Now when they do something...it just doesnt surprise me...not one bit...they have gushed over sarah palin so much it makes me sick, and other programs have done the same...what the heck are they doing. How can they think this woman is great, i think they are scared to seem parallel with intellects and hollywood, they are trying to seem like joe sixpack media....but it makes me sick.. im throwing up now watching her on tv

Naming Pakistan's president might be tricky since it was very recent that Musharraf stepped down.  An answer like "Benazir Bhutto's husband" would have been just fine.

But anyone who doesn't know a supreme court decision that pissed them off or has no opinion about what to do about the Russian invasion of Georgia just hasn't been paying attention to even the headlines, let alone understands the details.

Sarah Palin can't answer these simple questions because she knows nothing and has no ability to think.

Questions that simply ask her to parrot an item in a talking points memo are NOT the questions to ask of someone applying for the highest political job in the country.

If she were applying to be press secretary, then parroting talking points and flirting with the camera might be appropriate.

Palin got the job of Governor and is applying for the job of Vice President by selling sex, not competence.

Palin's interview with Couric was pathetic, but what she did at the VP debate was disgraceful.

Anyone who claims that Palin could actually do the JOB of being Vice President either believes that the President SHOULD be nothing more than a sexy spokesmodel, is lying, or is ignorant or stupid.

by rbruck on 10/04/2008 08:11:02 AM EST

Asking her to name one newspaper or magazine is a "gotcha"?

Now we know why you took a vacation; you have nothing left.

Dredd Scott v. Sandford

No

WOW THAT WAS HARD!!!

by Randomambusher on 10/04/2008 11:17:12 AM EST

It wasn't overt but it was implied she agreed with the court when it ruled in favor of states rights over federal jurisdiction.

Now, she did not outright say this but the thing that immediately came to my mind was that most of the key states rights issues in Supreme Court history have been regarding slavery/segregation.  And she was, philosophically coming down on the racist side.

Brown Vs. BOE, Plessy, Dred Scott.

These were all adjudicated based on states rights and were right when they denied them and wrong when they upheld them.

To be clear, she did not endorse any of these but if my entire answer to when did I disagree with the SC was going to be that I supported states rights when it was appropriate I would go way out of my way to put in the caveat that in civil rights cases, states rights is not an acceptable argument.

Its a subtle and minor point and not too damning but most of my AP History students would pick up on it.

I am not arguing she is a segregationist, I am arguing she is an idiot.

Here's a transcript of the first part of the Couric interview with Palin.....Question only I didn't want to confuse anyone with actual responses to the questions.

Please point out to me the "trapdoor" questions.

Katie Couric: As we stand before this august building and institution, what do you see as the role of the United States in the world?

Couric: In preparing for this conversation, a lot of our viewers … and Internet users wanted to know why you did not get a passport until last year. And they wondered if that indicated a lack of interest and curiosity in the world.

Couric: Gov. Palin, you’ve had a very busy week. And you’re meeting with many world leaders. You met with President Karzai of Afghanistan. I know the McCain campaign has called for a surge in Afghanistan. But that country is, as you know, dramatically different than Iraq. Why do you believe additional troops, U.S. troops, will solve the problem there?

Couric: The United States is deeply unpopular in Pakistan. Do you think the Pakistani government is protecting al Qaeda within its borders?
Couric: You’ve cited Alaska’s proximity to Russia as part of your foreign policy experience. What did you mean by that?

Couric: Well, explain to me why that enhances your foreign-policy credentials.

Couric: Have you ever been involved in any negotiations, for example, with the Russians?

Couric: When President Bush ran for office, he opposed nation-building. But he has spent, as you know, much of his presidency promoting democracy around the world. What lessons have you learned from Iraq? And how specifically will you try to spread democracy throughout the world?

Couric: You met yesterday with former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, who is for direct diplomacy with both Iran and Syria. Do you believe the U.S. should negotiate with leaders like President Assad and Ahmadinejad?

Couric: Are you saying Henry Kissinger …is naïve for supporting that?

Couric: You recently said three times that you would never, quote, “second guess” Israel if that country decided to attack Iran. Why not?

Couric: You don’t think the United States is within its rights to express its position to Israel? And if that means second-guessing or discussing an option?

Couric: But you said never second guess them.

I'll post more interview questions later, but this is a start. After all we were told the interview was "filled" with trapdoor questions. I'm just asking for one.

Palin eliminated property tax and business tax and created a sales tax.

What does this do?

Well, property tax is shared equally between businesses and homeowners, but leans toward taxing large landowners.  Business tax taxes the businesses.

Sales tax, on the other hand, is almost entired paid by the middle class.

So, in addition to putting Wasilla $20 million in debt, Palin shifted the tax burden off of the wealthy and onto the middle class.

Wow, that sure is different than what Bush has been doing for the last 8 years.  What a maverick!

Researchers at CBS wrote the questions and follow-ups that Katie posed. They took weeks to devise the questions. Katie Couric couldn't think her way out of a wet paperbag without a script or prompter. Sarah Palin has been in front of the national spotlight for a mere 30 days, and the pressure has been intense. She's handled it amazingly well, and people get it. They empathize with Sarah. They cheer when a real life Mr Smith Goes To Washington.

Were you ignoring the news the past week?  Sarah's support has "plummeted."  ; She fired up the base.  Big deal.

There is a clear correlation between views of Palin’s qualifications and support for McCain, which may be hurting the GOP candidate. Fewer people see her as qualified to become president, and the balance of opinion toward Palin has grown more negative since early September. Unfavorable views of the Alaska governor have increased among most demographic and political groups, with GOP voters a notable exception.

From the Washington Post:

With the vice presidential candidates set to square off today in their only scheduled debate, public assessments of Sarah Palin's readiness have plummeted, and she may now be a drag on the Republican ticket among key voter groups, according to a new Washington Post-ABC News poll.

In early September, independents offered a divided verdict on Palin's experience; now they take the negative view by about 2 to 1. Nearly two-thirds of both independent men and women in the new poll said Palin has insufficient experience to run the White House.

But a third of independent voters now indicate they are less likely to support McCain because of Palin, compared with 20 percent who said so in an ABC poll a month ago. Palin now repels more independents than she attracts to McCain. The share of independent women less apt to support McCain because of the Palin pick has more than doubled to 34 percent, while the percentage more inclined to support him is down eight points.

White Catholics, another important group of swing voters, also are now more likely to say that Palin dampens their support for McCain.

...even within ...Republican strongholds, questions about Palin's experience are fairly common. About four in 10 conservatives and white evangelical Protestants, three in 10 Republicans and a quarter of GOP women said she does not have the necessary experience.

You are obviously living in a "reality" based world.

It is a well known Republican mindset that if you repeat something often enough no matter how unreal it is, it will become Truth.

Now in the "REAL WORLD" most people are looking at Ms Congeniality and  wondering if they really want the female version of the village idiot that currently occupies the White House, one 72 year old, 4 time cancer survivors heartbeat away from the Presidency.

If you asked George Bush to explain the "Bush Doctrine", he would have to ask Dick Cheney for the specifics. That goes for 95% of all Americans.

These are trapdoor questions designed to make her look bad.

You're using the Village Idiot as an example?

If you asked George Bush how to spell dog you would have to spot him the d and the g.

As to 95% of the American public I don't believe they are running to be a heartbeat away from being the leader of the free world.

I don't expect 95% of the American public to know how to do a triple bypass if I ever need one but I do expect my surgeon to have a working knowledge of how the heart works.

I don't expect 95% of the American public to know how to replace my brake pads on my Jeep, but when I carry in to Brako I sort of have a reasonable expectation that the guy who works on them knows the difference between a rotor a caliper and a pad.

Just as I expect that the Vice President of the United States should know the difference between the Monroe Doctrine, the Truman Doctrine, the Nixon Doctrine, the Carter Doctrine, and The Village Idiot From Crawford Doctrine.

Try again

Weak Ken, very, very weak.

I know you can do better. When you just think for yourself instead of regurgitating the latest Lush Limp-rod talking points.

I knew the answer! I knew the answer!

Then again, I follow politics in the lower 48 ;)

You are right about Bush though; his answer would have been, "well, most of my doctors are pretty good, so I guess the Bush doctorin' is okay."

Man, you have to admit, they really trapped her on that one.

Imagine if they asked Obama that question?

It would have blown up his whole presidency!

Or Biden?  They would have had to drop him from the ticket!

The Dems really dodged a bullet there.  Thank God for the liberal media and its unanswerable questions to Republicans.

Hey Ken, don't you realize crying like little girls about question 98% of all Americans can answer easily makes you look like weak losers?

This is not helping you!  Don't believe me?  Lets check the polls:
