Elizabeth, her ignorant campaign workers, and atheists

I'm sure you all saw Cenk's piece on the low political smears Elizabeth Dole has run against her opponent.

Well...I called her campaign office...

And they are as religiously intolerant as that ad.

For everyone who is totally disgusted with Dole’s add attacking Hagen. Here is her campaign number. 704-633-0014

Call it and let them know they are out of line.

And by the way, they were trying to argue with me that taking money from a group which promotes separation of church and state, where some members happen to be atheists, is wrong and damaging for America.

Essentially they don't believe in the separation of church and state.  The hypocrisy is amazing.  They'll collect donations from christian organizations, but Kay Hagen isn't allowed to collect money from a well...non-religious...orga nization trying to uphold the Constitution.

And if they try to say the sep. of church and state isn't written in the Constitution (so it really doesn't matter), well tell them that's it's a legal term:

The separation of church and state is a legal and political principle derived from the First Amendment to the United States Constitution, which reads, "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof . . ." The phrase "separation of church and state", which does not appear in the Constitution itself, is generally traced to an 1802 letter by Thomas Jefferson to the Danbury Baptists, where Jefferson spoke of the combined effect of the Establishment Clause and the Free Exercise Clause of the First Amendment. It has since been quoted in several opinions handed down by the United States Supreme Court .

Here's the number again: 704-633-0014

These types are convinced that the United States of America is a Christian country. This is just not the case. The Deceleration of Independence was written by Deists not Christians like they claim. For a good explanation of Deism please visit this site http://www.deism.com . One of the claims made by Dole in her rantings is that her opponent wants to strip the phrase "Under God" from the pledge of allegiance. Well, I hate to break the new to her and her supporters, but that was not in the original version and was added later. One of the reasons that people migrated over the ocean to the New World was to escape religious persecution. Those that did not follow the teachings of the Catholic Church were under constant attack by the church and they fled to the new world where they could practice their own beliefs without those same problems. That is how we ended up with such a wide variety of religious beliefs at the beginning of  our country. Just because Christianity now makes up a large majority of the population should not change one of the main foundations of our nation, to believe and practice any religion of your choice without fear of persecution. unfortunately that is not what has happened. Over the last 200 years we have slowly evolved from a true democracy on the way to theocracy. With issues like abortion and gay marriage being put into the political playing field, those who wish a christian state have furthered the country closer and closer to a true theocracy no better then those in the Middle East except that in place of the Muslim faith, it is the Christian faith. We are headed back to the time when the Church had a major infulance in the making of laws and public policy. The same thing our founding fathers had tried to avoid, is now coming to reality. We need to stop legislating from the bible and take government out of the business of mandating moral ideology based on one religion. If McCain is elected and he gets to appoint two Supreme Court Judges of the ideological beliefs he wants then we should consider a name change to The United States of Christianity.
