Are Conservatives Retards (Literally)?

Retard

Noun: a slowing down, diminution, or hindrance.

Verb: to make slow; delay the development or progress of (an action, process, etc.); hinder or impede.

Conservative

Adjective: disposed to preserve existing conditions, institutions, etc., or to restore traditional ones, and to limit change.

Based on the literal interpretation of the words retard and conservative, is it OK to call conservatives retards?

When people oppose progressive ideas, they are, by definition, retards.  When right-wing talking heads say they will work with Obama only if he promotes conservative agendas, they are retards.  When republicans filibuster progressive bills, they are retards.

The term retard, when used to describe a conservative, is not meant to insulting.  It only implies a viewpoint or action in opposition to progress or progressive views.  Therefore:

  • People who oppose universal health care are retards.
  • People who believe America should be a theocracy are retards.
  • People who are ideologically against corporate regulation are retards.
  • Anyone who doesn't think we should limit carbon emissions is a retard.
  • Everyone who votes against gay marriage is a retard.
  • Racists are retards.
  • Fans of Sean Hannity Rush Limbaugh are retards.

I would suggest using the word "retardant", makes it much more clear that you aren't simply insulting people. Everyone will still get the point.

Only retards will think that you're insulting mentally handicapped people when you use the word retard.

Your definition of "conservative" is quite clear and correct.  However, we seem to forget (or ignore) that most people who call themselves "conservative" are not conservative in the least.  They are, in fact, quite radical in the policies they want to implement, including making drastic alterations to our Constitution -- if they don't simply want to ignore it.

These people are not conservative.  True conservatism has many good facets which progressives include in their policies.  We should not demean the name "conservative" by attributing it to right-wingers just because they want to use the name for themselves.  This is yet another thing about which they lie.

Retard
Noun: a slowing down, diminution, or hindrance.

That's not correct.  Maybe you meant "retardation?"  When "retard" is used as a noun, it refers to a person and is an insult.

(I wouldn't want your contention weakened by this kind of hole in its foundation.)

Let's call the whole thing "bobo".

the use of "retard" as an insult is colloquial, and is not the correct dictionary definition of "retard" as a noun.  I'm not trying to be a dick, but I think I should be able to use the word retard referring to an idiot, because the word comes from the latin root for slowing.  Just because some assholes use to call mentally disabled people retards doesn't mean i shouldn't be able to reuse the word.  this is also why i advocate the usage of the word "nigger" for white people.  I think taboo only serves to make words more powerful, and reformation is the only way to rid a word of it's hurtful stigmas.  I use retard all the time because I know that mentally disabled people aren't retards, they're usually pretty nice, although i've met some mean bastards too.

So what you're telling me, in effect, is that UFC and Pride are exactly the same thing?

I know they make these decisions based on who will draw in the most buys, but shouldn't you have to win a few fights first?

is name recognition.  Brock lesnar lost his first fight to frank mir, so technically mir should get a title shot before lesnar, but Mir is an unknown, so he doesn't sell tickets like lesnar.  Lesnar will probably get owned in his title fight, so basically dana white is trying to get as much money out of him in as few fights as he possibly can.  The heavyweight division is not consistent, except for fighters like noguiera or coutoure.  the light heavyweight division is where the real action is at, where you have the recently acquired pride fighters like Anderson Silva, Wanderlei Silva, Rampage.

What's funny about people saying pride is better is that Crocop came to the UFC and lost, Wanderlei Silva came to the UFC and lost, and Rampage just lost his title.  So it turns out UFC may have been better than pride all along.

Progressive:

noun: A person who actively favors or strives for progress toward better conditions, as in society or government.

Progress:

If a retard is something that slows or hinders progress and a progressive is someone who strives for progress, someone who is an impediment to progressive movement is a retard.

I was a music student and every music teacher I ever had told us not to refer to the marking "rit." as "a retard," because it was incorrect.  I guess they were just blinded by their own liberal mindset.

So I reject that usage.  It shall go the way of "whom" and "towards."

not RETARD, but they all still mean slow, or gradually slower...
