A Young Turk gets elected to a prominent position in Germany

Sort of old news by now....but ..."Germany's Green Party on Saturday elected Cem Oezdemir as one of its co-leaders, the first time one of Germany's major parties has elevated a child of Turkish immigrants to such a high position."

It's a big deal for Germany and Europe in general for that matter... its' as if Obama's victory unleashed  the powerful forces....and the glass ceiling is being broken

Slow it down, the Americans need some more time to gloat over how open-minded they are!

France's President Nicolas Sarkozy has a Hungarian father and his mother (French Catholic and Thessalonikan Sephardi Jewish descent) has a Greek father.

true not so exotic as Obama, but still. Also keep in mind America has had a significant African American population for a LOOOOOONG time, something that can't be said about Europe or most places for that matter

EXOTIC ALERT!!! :)
former President of Peru, Alberto Fujimori, has full blown Japanese parents, he even holds a dual Peruvian and Japanese citizenship

might be others, don't know at the moment

but great to hear the news from Germany, Belgium also had a woman from the Socialist Party of Moroccan descent as a Secretary (minister type of job) and a guy from Turkish descent as Secretary (also Socialist Party) in the Brussels Region

it seems Peru has the US beat :) (of course there's a reply to that, but only racists would believe that point)
