Young Turks Election Day Contest Results

For Election Day, the Young Turks ran three giveaway contests.  I have a final ruling in two of them.

For Election Day, the Young Turks ran three giveaway contests.  I have a final ruling in two of them.

In one Election Day contest, the task was to list the Top 5 Obama states in order by vote percentage.  Of course nobody got it right; it was nearly impossible. In fact, nobody even named all five correct states.  But about four people named four of the five states, and gatekeeper50 got the top 3 exactly in order. So Gatekeeper50 wins a t-shirt.

The correct answers are:

  1. Hawaii 71.8%
  2. Vermont 66.8%
  3. Rhode Island 63.3%
  4. New York 62.1%
  5. Massachusetts 62.0%

In the second contest, the task was to name the Top Five McCain states again in order.  Nobody guessed these correctly either, but two people guessed the correct five states.  The single winner will be Jutewe, who wins an Ana Calendar.

The results were:

  1. OK 65.6%
  2. WY 65.2%
  3. UT 62.9%
  4. ID 61.5%
  5. AK 61.5%

The third contest was to name the correct electoral vote count. If NC goes to Obama, several people have guessed (or calculated) correctly. But I will wait for the final results to arbitrate that contest.

Sunday, my choice for president, Barack Obama, was elected on Tuesday, and I won a T-shirt on TYT: woot-to-the-woot.  While I would proudly wear the shirt until it was threads hanging from my shoulders it wouldn't be seen by many under the raincoat or vest I usually have on up here in the Pacific NW, so I authorize Ana to come up with a new subscriber contest which my t-shirt is one of the prizes.  Great job Tuesday to Cenk, staff, and all the guests.  ---Larry---

Congratulations gatekeeper50.  Which person are you in the video?  What state do you live in?  How many different usernames do you have on the TYT website?

so I'm not in the video.  The navy Lt. is my daughter's (Amber) new father-in-law and the older man at my son-in-law's (Robert) left is my dad; the woman in black on Amber's right is my oldest daughter.  I was an ET1(ss) on nuclear subs from 1970-1978, so he outranks me, ha-ha.  I go by Gatekeeper50 for my political side (gatekeeper50hotmail on youtube), and use the moniker ancientgatekeeper (picasa for stills and youtube for my personal videos) on gmail.  I'm Larry in the corporeal (analog) world or "hey you" at work at the Port of Seattle, WA, as a longshoreman.  I'll stick a picture of me from the wedding on my TYT page.

These were not "guesses," Dude. They were meticulously worked out calculations!

I'm not sure if Dond should be penalized or given a bonus for his hubris.   However, slapping him with a dead fish does seem appropriate.

That you also take one for having no sense of humor. Have you actually read the postings on this site? Hubris is what 90 percent of this blog is about. C'mon!!

It appears that I was too subtle for you.

subtle like Larry Craig toe-tapping in the stall next to you.

You had to compare me to Larry Craig? There wasn't some more complimentary analogy that you could have used?  I mean, Larry Craig?  Why not just go all the way and use something like "as subtle as Sarah Palin at a Klan rally for 'real' Americans", or "as subtle as Bush 'doing' nuance with the 101st Airborne", or "as subtle as Dick Cheney's effervesent personality".

Larry Craig.  Sheesh!
