Give Hillary some credit too

Last Tuesday's victory was kind of anticlimactic. Barack Obama's win was not as close as his edging out Clinton in the Democratic primaries. And a lot of us were worried that the long dragged-out contest was hurting our party's chances against John McCain.

I made the case that it was helping, not hurting. It kept Obama in the news while McCain faded into relative obscurity. It also allowed certain controversies like Rev. Wright to be brought into the open and dealt with before the Republicans got a chance - a lot like a vaccine uses dead viruses to prevent live ones from causing disease. I made the half-serious case that Hillary continued her futile campaign long after it was clear she was going to lose to make sure Barack was good and ready for the GOP's assault later on.

I still maintain that Hillary Clinton would make a better Senate Majority Leader than Harry Reid. She could be a liability at times, but at least she's tough. And she came around when those ridiculous PUMAs came out of the woodwork. They turned out to be a non-issue, but she made it clear to them as well as she could that a vote for McCain and Palin would've been a vote against women - Hillary Clinton included.

So all is forgiven, and any rift among the Democrats is nothing compared to the schism the Republicans are seeing right now. Sadly, Bill Clinton's reputation may be damaged beyond repair. He made an ass of himself too many times this year. At least he has plenty of time to write another book or two.

getting any of these Hillary haters to give her an ounce of credit for ANYTHING in this context, even though you are absolutely right... Remember, to Obamabots (I guess that would be President Elect Obamabots now) think Hillary, not Palin is the true Anti-Christ...

I think Obama should urge Harry Reid to step aside to let Hillary take over the Senate leadership - if she were really truthful about pushing the Liberal agenda, she would be the one to be able to do it, not that pussy Reid...

Since Franken lost and the Dems are gonna give Lieberman the boot, they are down to 57 if my numbers are right - Gordon Smith and Susan Collins are going to be the most pampered and Lobbied Republicans EVER during the first half of this administration... They might as well switch their party affiliation now!

And how about Senator Sarah Palin? It could happen!!!

They're still counting the votes and Coleman is only 200-something ahead. Gordon Smith has lost.

We can now retire the term "Obamabot" too.

America is an Obamabot.

Run, Republicans, run as far to the right as you can. It's your only hope! Any combination of Cheney/Jindal/Palin/Steele/ Limbaugh/Cantor/Gingrich '12!

I thought Gordon Smith had squeaked by... my bad

OK - Susan Collins will ALONE be the most pampered Republican in the Senate...

And the term ObamaBot has been semi-retired. It is now President Elect Obamabots, and later it will become just plain old President Obamabots - the fact that he has achieved office does not mean that his minions are any less the kool aid drinking Obamabots they were before...

are you saying that Indiana who hasn't voted for a democratic president since 68 is FULL of Obamabots?  Is that what you're saying?  I'm just asking a question...

First, Lieberman will caucus with the Dems.

Second, you really don't understand how Congress works, do you?

See, Senators are politicians.  And the GOP ones have just watched back-to-back massacres of their brethren whilst the Dems haven't lost a man.

The GOP Senators also have things they need to get done to make the folks back home happy with them.  they need pork and other stuff to justify their existence.  In case this wasn't reported on Hannity, Liddy Dole lost because she didn't get shit done.  That is what happens when all you do is filibuster the party in power.  You piss them off and make the ideologues happy and then lose when you run for reelection.

I would suggest to you that any Republican Senator in a blue or purple state that has to run in 2010 will be pretty damn happy to be the one who stops the filibuster in exchange for a nice slice of pork, of course.

Some people to look forward to letting your dumb ass down for the next two years:

Chuck Grassley (IA)

Mel Martinez (FL)

Judd Gregg (NH)

Richard Burr (NC)

George Voinovich (OH)

Arlen Spector (PA)

Johnny Isakson (GA)

Not to mention the obvious point that Snow and Collins are socially liberal and Hagel and Luger agree with the Dems on foriegn policy.

Yeah, that vote or two we need to make cloture is gonna be real hard to come by.

First, I believe his disbarment was temporary and even if it wasn't it was only in Arkansas.  He can get rebared anywhere.

Second, there is NO qualification for the Supreme Court.  There have been a number of SC Justices who were not lawyers, let alone judges.  Most notably Jackson hatchet man and all-around scumbag Roger Tany.

....i think it is an insult to put her in the same class as someone like Justice Ginsberg......

Hillary Schmillery.....

her loathesome race-baiting, low-brow, kitchen sink campaign probably took the sting out of Mccain's Ayers attack.  Or maybe she fanned the flames of bigotry and is partially responsible for establishing the Palin mob.  Rove tactics are inexcusable and i'm one New Yorker that will never vote for her again.  She's in the same category as Guilianni for me.

hillary vetted barack, so Mccain couldn't do ANYTHING...McCain's ammo was already used against barack, and it didn't work the first time.  Only a moron tries a proven failed approach.

Hillary already tried all the vile low slimy attacks on Obama before McCain did. By the time McCain/ Pig woman tried it had already been hashed out. It was old history. I think its part of the reason it didnt work for McCain.

Bill Clintons luke warm support of Obama didnt seem to hurt him either.

The Clintons had to jump on board eventually and support Obama to protect their OWN legacy. Obama obviously didnt need them.

Sure she was psycho crazy during the primaries, but once she finally did the right thing she went all out.  A whole lot further than she needed to protect her career or legacy.

Obviously she didn't mean for her attacks to help Obama, but once she FINALLY admitted she couldn't win she was completely on board.

Run, Republicans, run as far to the right as you can. It's your only hope! Any combination of Cheney/Jindal/Palin/Steele/ Limbaugh/Cantor/Gingrich '12!
