C'mon, Twba, step up to the plate

Deep in another thread, the following exchange took place and I thought it worth it's own thread...since Twba didn't reply there...

Tim: Kills you to know I'm right, doesn't it?

Twba: It saddens me to see that you don't have a fucking clue.

Tim: Well, then, clue me in - Write a nice long post detailing how America is a better place now economically than we were in 1980. Focus on the middle class, full time job stats, ratio of pay for executives to workers, real growth in wages, free trade benefitting the working class, how we got to 10 Trillion dollars in National Debt when the tax revenues were so vastly increased through lower tax rates, the effect on our infrastructure, union-busting, etc.

Any farmer will tell you. You can't skim cream from the bottom.

Give us the Twba vision of how Reaganomics was a good thing for anyone but already wealthy people.

The pitch is thrown...will Twba hit it out of the park?

There is also a saying that "You can lead Twba to the plate, but he's a picky eater."

He won't answer this challenge until he's reasonably sure no one is paying attention any more.  It lessens his investment.

I'm also looking forward to his explanation of how the policies responsible for the US's transformation from the biggest lender into biggest borrower on the planet could be anything close to even the most creative definition of the word "good."

You nailed it when you wrote "He won't answer this challenge until he's reasonably sure no one is paying attention any more."

Although you were being FAR too generous with regard to his motives when you followed that up with "It lessens his investment."

Do we really need color commentary from a dork who lost a fight with an angry mouse?

that you're proving everyone's point by hiding like a coward and waiting to respond right?

PS---I'd rather be a winner that loses a fight here and there than be a loser.

On this same subject, Vanity Fair's Joseph E. Stiglitz has written a very good piece on the top five mistakes made economy-wise since the Reagan administration.

Capitalist Fools

There will come a moment when the most urgent threats posed by the credit crisis have eased and the larger task before us will be to chart a direction for the economic steps ahead. This will be a dangerous moment. Behind the debates over future policy is a debate over history—a debate over the causes of our current situation. The battle for the past will determine the battle for the present. So it’s crucial to get the history straight.

What were the critical decisions that led to the crisis? Mistakes were made at every fork in the road—we had what engineers call a “system failure,” when not a single decision but a cascade of decisions produce a tragic result. Let’s look at five key moments.

Ken can post all he wants, and you can bite his heels all YOU want. It would be expecially nice if it was concentrated in the area of

"Give us the KenTX vision of how Reaganomics was a good thing for anyone but already wealthy people."

and

"Give us the Chinese Democracy vision of how Reaganomics was a good thing for anyone but already wealthy people."

rather than side issues and little insult posts.

What are the import tariffs in these countries? And what is average tariff in the US?

Hint: It's much, much (much) lower in the U.S. One might even say these developing economies have "protected" their economic growth, a concept that's reviled by The Church Of Free Trade.

by Tom Hanc on 12/13/2008 01:21:19 PM EST

I'm saying that (essentially) unrestricted free trade and globalization are clearly *part* of the problem with our economy.

Which reminds me, go watch that great (short) Hartmann video from MSNBC I just posted.

And Tim, I don't want to derail this thread so I'll stop now.

I wait all weekend for Twba's response, and what do I find?  I guess I'll have to wait for this post to be further down the list.

This is even late by Twba standards.

I'd send him a ribbon in the mail but he wouldn't open it until next year, so what's the point?

Thom would show up on time and TWBA would show up 2 months later.

That's a LONG time for someone to pitch a tent, even for a Texan!
