Hartmann (& Maddow) AWESOME On MSNBC

1. Thom Hartmann on Countdown this week giving his take on the GOP, unions and the failed auto-bailout. The last minute or so of this video is brilliant. If you're too lazy to watch all 5+ minutes, at least watch the end.

2. Rachel Maddow: Republicans Want to Reduce American Wages. Just watch it, it's good.

It's amazing to think it wasn't all that long ago that were almost NO progressive voices on television. Think about it, what progressive had his/her own TV show before Olbermann/Maddow? No one (Donahue but that was short lived). Yet we had the entire Fox Network on the right...

PS---This is completely off topic, but I'm amused that people are outraged over the new Playboy cover in Mexico.

Especially since it's PG-13. I mean, if you click that link you don't even see a nipple or bare butt.

grey-haired old farts have to use old school VCRs with anolog to digital convertors until we can find enough work to afford new fangled digital gear.  I'm trying to keep up with you young whipper snappers, but the hurrieder I go, the behinder I get.  And actually, to answer your question, I'm just trying to drive you to my most excellent youtube channel http://www.youtube.com/user /GateKeeper50hotmail

to see The Professor on TV. He is not only a well-practiced and capable speaker but he can back up his arguments with unmatched scholarship. His words actually mean something.

I always say that listening to his show is like auditing a university level course on history and political science.

"This is the absolute consequence of Reaganomics."

I'm a'bettin' Twba thinks Thom Hartmann doesn't have a fucking clue either...

by MedfordTim on 12/13/2008 11:04:52 PM EST

Cenk's reaction to Hartmann's take, especially the last part where he talks about how we've gone from being the largest exporter of finished goods and the
#1 creditor nation to the largest exporter of raw materials (just like 3rd world countries) and the #1 debtor nation.

To say that our trade policies have nothing to do with this is insane.

I wish we had a DIGG style comment system where we could edit our comments for up to 60s-5 minutes after we post them.

Look forward to a greater number of appearances by knowledgeable folks like Hartmann in the next few years.  Mark my words:  With Bush out of office, it's going to be considerably more fashionable not to be a blathering idiot.

Also, Mexican Playboy is HOT with seven capital T's.

but I don't always have time to watch every show. At any rate, I like her more than Olbermann by a large margin.

Rachel Maddows could be a much better anylist if she would remember that her audieance is generally over the age of 21. I do enjoy watching her show because she is attractive and very pleasent always bubbley and really does put one in a good mood. However It seems that she thinks her audience is more in 3-8 age group.

Why do you say that? I'm not saying I agree or disagree, I'm just curious to hear you elaborate, maybe give some examples.

not laughing when she has to say various words or phrases that are double entendres; sort of like the one Stephenie Miller makes a living off of from NAKED GUN ...  "Nice beaver," "Thanks, I just had it stuffed."

I saw a few minutes of what appears to be a new show on CNN, on the weekends. If I understood it correctly, the first half is a round table discussion hosted by Donna Brazile and consisting only of "liberals". Then there is an all-"conservative" round table. Then for a few minutes at the end one or two of the liberals and one or two of the conservatives get together for a wrap up discussion. All in all I like that they are trying something different, except that the discussion is still rapid fire style, and the conservatives still make very little sense.  It was fun to hear them rip Bush apart though.

As soon as Paulson and Bernanke went to Congress to ask for a $700 billion bailout of the financial system, the Republican party should have disbanded.  Right at that moment, the entire party became discredited.  They should have headed over to the RNC headquarters, taken out all the pens and paper clips, turned out the lights, flipped the door sign from OPEN to CLOSED and left the party in the dustbin of history.

The last two elections are showing a trend in that direction. I honestly believe that far right conservatives  the Rush Limbaugh wing of the party have had their moment and it wont be repeated.

...but only to write some "It's the Democrats', Socialists', and overpaid blue collar workers' fault."

Wanna know why Al Qaeda hasn't launched another attack against America since 9/11? They figure they're amateurs next to BushCo when it comes to major destruction of a country. Throw in a willing partnership of Republicans and Democrats and all bin Laden had to do was sit back and laugh as all his goals were met.

...maybe that "OPEN/CLOSED" sign you were talking about should be hung on the "Welcome to Washington D.C." sign...

I think is his singular focus; he kept repeating the truth, the republicans are doing this because unions are progressive institutions.

Screwing the unions over isn't a byproduct or unfortunate casualty of republican ideology, it's the animating purpose.
