...and for later tonight: "Windy...snow... possibly mixing with or changing to freezing rain or sleet after midnight. Snow accumulations of 6 to 12 inches. Ice accumulation up to one quarter inch possible late. Lows in the mid 20s to lower 30s. Southeast wind 10 to 15 mph increasing to south 20 to 30 mph after midnight."

OK, Saturday night contest! Who has the most snow?

We just got through through another horrible storm here in Chicago. Now it's just some light snow for tonight, but the Thursday night/Friday morning it was freezing rain that turned into snow.

Tomorrow the high is in the teens with the windchil l 20-30 below...or is that for Monday, I can't remember now. I think it's supposed to be insanely cold both days.

As much as I love the Bears I'd have to say no to a free ticket to the Bears/Packers game Monday Night. Besides, how could I see the game with 10 layers of clothing on? With those temps you probably get frostbite on your nose/cheeks!

Which Turkleton has the most snow at their HOUSE?  I had eight inches of powder this morning before it started snowing again this afternoon, and the storm still won't arrive for hours.

I assumed it was on the East Coast since but it sounds pretty bad by you!

How are the temps though?

Somehow I missed that the first time I read your post and only saw the wind speed.

What is strange is the depth of snow and how long this storm is lasting.  Strange for here and Seattle anyway.

at least so far. The forecast is for an inch of accumulation of a mix of freezing rain, sleet and snow but nothing has fallen as yet. I live a few miles west of Baltimore, MD. Our winter temperature pattern is above freezing during the day and below freezing at night, so, if it was wet during the day, driving can be treacherous at night.

BTW, I've just confirmed that raccoons do not hibernate. Why is that important? Because I haven't seen our dumpster raccoon for two months.

Every afternoon or early evening, from April to October, we had a raccoon climb into our apartment complex dumpster and sleep. My son said that one time he saw him leap out of the dumpster while the truck was lifting the dumpster. I guess one time he didn't make it.

RIP, No-Name. It was fun while it lasted.

That's sad. Not a very safe place to sleep I guess. Maybe he has just found a better food source and you'll see him again.  Mine often make a lot of noise when they arrive--sounds like someone is dropping bricks on the front porch and stomping around.  They maraud the bird food and feeders, but that's okay. Everyone is hungry right now with eight inches of snow on the ground and another storm arriving shortly.

raccoons are a nuisance but come on, they look cool (or cute if you want to get prop 8 about it ;).

The fact that they have the built in mask? Like I always say, I'll take a furry mammal (minus rabies of course) over roaches ANY DAY.

I'm from the northeast, where we're used to such dumps of snow (Buffalo, NY had several [10?] feet at once last year) but spoke last night from relatives in Seattle. VERY unusual to have so much snow and they're loving it!! But staying off the roads due to inexperience driving in it. (P.S. Bet your towns don't budget for ROAD SALT, as ours do!)  Be safe!!

I got 10" on Friday followed by 6" last night and I don't even live in the official CNY snow belt.

Christmas week, no school and the local ski slopes are loving it.

Great for the local economy.

I moved to northern california  from colorado a few months ago, right before the snow started falling in my town.  The worst that happens here is a rainy day that gets down into the high 30's.  Totally bunk.  I just talked with my mom who said my hometown got 38 inches of snow in two days.  Ah well, at least I have the monsoon season to look forward to here.  awesome.

Looks like I'm going to be with them sheep rams soon.  I've already committed to a friend to drive up with her to Portland from San Francisco next week and the driving conditions just aren't looking too spectacular.  Hum should I take the never-ending coastal route up 101 and try to cross over somewhere in Oregon, barrel up 5 with chains and get ready to slide, or just tell her it's a no go and Santa Claus is dead?

Anyway it was beautiful sunny day in the city yesterday, but today it's raining and a cold 50 (nothing like you guys above).  Keep warm and don't piss yourselves partying too hard - that could get dangerous.

by rev24 on 12/21/2008 03:32:59 PM EST

Portland isn't allowing cars on the roads in the area without chains!!  No planes were going in or out of the airport this morning.  I'm pretty sure more freezing rain is on the way in Portland, meaning also black ice in spots. And even without snow, the visibility on I-5 this time of year can be horrible because of the truck and car spray and overall dim light.  Seems like more storms stacked up through to next weekend.  Santa decided to stay home with the misses this year and drink eggnog with the elves.  I know I'm not driving to Portland next week.

And ixnay on 101.  I thought that would be a great idea one summer several years ago, but man, it gets really old after about two hours, and then you are fucked because nowhere to cross over anywhere soon.

more and more snow here.  It was 11 inches this morning and has been snowing big fat flakes much of the day.

Though I think I'm going to barrel it tomorrow cause it looks like there's a break in the storm.  How about you use your desert powers to clear the way - have a good one!

Dude, what are you, in a snow shadow?? I'm now up to 13 inches here with MORE on the way tonight. There are snow drifts almost hiding my truck tires! But at least the ice has not arrived...yet. My friend near Portland says they have about 1/3 inch of ice on everything--it's starting to break their trees.  gack.

But...nice video, nice music :)
