Can we get a shoe for Condoleezza Rice

Condoleezza Rice on Meet the Press: "Saddam Hussein who had dragged the region into war several times, had dragged us into war, had used weapons of mass destruction"

Look if an official of let's say... Peru had made this statement, I wouldn't have a beef, BUT an American Secretary of State, let alone a Republican: worst kind of hypocrite.

I know she has to spin, but it's just sick:
Fact 1: US under Republican presidency supported Saddam in it's wars prior to Kuwait

Fact 2: US had sold the chemicals to Saddam to make those weapons of mass destruction. I know, how was the US supposed to know he would also use them on the Kurds, instead of only on the Iranians

Widespread belief: there is a case to be made that the US baited Saddam into the first Golf War, not by spurring him on, but by NOT letting him know they would oppose his invasion. Case is furthermore strengthened by the fact that Saddam was surprised when the US opposed him after he did, weren't people in the US government up to date on what he had planned?

Saddam was one of America's dictators, he was a son of a bitch, but he was America's son of a bitch. (Morgan Spurlock has a great cartoon about this in his film "Where in the World Is Osama Bin Laden?"). It's not without precedence of course, wasn't there a guy called Osama who belonged to this group who got support from the CIA against the evil Soviet Empire?

It's the hypocrasy that makes it so much worse, it's the hollier than thou that grates a lot of people, so I ask can we get a shoe for Condoleezza Rice.

to stop stupid comments from the few Repuglicans on the board:

I'm NOT critiquing the US for supporting Saddam Hussein in his war against Iran. US was within it's rights to support either or neither side. I'm critiquing the hypocrisy and the attempt to rewrite history.

On a related subject: I DO critique the US for getting the Shah in power in Iran and paving the path for the Iranian Revolution, which has caused a lot of misery in that region. But hey when has it ever had a positive long term effect when the CIA has helped rightwing despots into power in favor of democratic elected leaders (Chile, Iran, Zaïre, ...).
