Blago: AMERICAN GANGSTER

I can only describe what Illinois Governor Blagojevich did when appointing a qualified individual to Obama's vacated Senate seat with one word: GANGSTER.

After that, other words such as scumbag, self-righteuos, delusional, deceptive, bold, and ridiculous come to mind. But make no mistakes, this move was one of the most shrewdly intelligent moves Blagojevich has done. Can we all say, "REASONABLE DOUBT"? Appointin g former Illinois Attorney General Roland Burris to replace President-elect Barack Obama in the U.S. Senate has established Blagojevich's best defense against the federal charges he faces. Exactly what did he attain by this appointment? Nothing... or so it seems.

While he may have gained the increased ire of Senator Reid, the Senate, the Obama administration, and the entire Democratic Party, what more can they do to punish him if they are not involved in leading prosecution against him? Nothing but talk tough and do nothing. It is assured that the appointed Senator Burris will not be seated by the Senate, so why even accept the appointment? It is simple; exposure. This may be one of the more subtle public quid pro quos in modern history. Blagojevich may have only be concerned in constructing a plausible defense against his charges, he has also given (purposely or inadvertently) Roland Burris the statewide exposure and podium his former political offices could never have afforded him. With this exposure comes a reexamination of his credentials, which are very worthy of being a Senator. So even if, or better yet when Burris is not allowed to be seated, he is set up with a head start of empathetic exposure for winning the seat when the election comes up.

Blago seems to be more Machiaveli than Ron Burgundy today. His absurd boldness and refusal to step down in shame and disgrace when confronted by the bounty of evidence against him, has gained him both ridicule and respect. His refusal to face the consequences of his actions and not even acknowledging any of his actions is a thug mentality. As abrasive and perplexing as it is, it is also very effective.

P.S.: Harry Reid had better stick to his word and show the same spine Blago has shown, and not seat Burris (I am a young black man writing this). To backtrack from the staunch statement delivered 2 weeks ago would not only make him look weak, it exposes the Democrats for the softball bitches that they are. Grow a set and stand your damn ground, politics of race be damned.

I have been perusing both the US Constitution and the Illinois state Constitution, and I cant see anywhere in either document where Harry Reid would have any authority not to accept Mr. Burris as a temporary United States Senator.

Does anyone have any legal basis or law they could link to that says that the Senate majority leader or in fact the party itself can in fact reject a governors appointment?

Blago's got some balls, but Harry Reid doesnt have any legal standing to DQ this man as far as I can tell (Other than something bad on his record which hasnt been disclosed etc).

Yet another distraction for the inauguration - the fact that this Mr. Burris is black only complicates the matter for the Democrats, because now they are apparently going to oppose including the only Black senator in Congress...

How sweet it is building up to be - this next 4 years are gonna be FUN!!!

:)

That Reid and the Senate hold no constitutional powers to not allow Roland Burris seating is true, but that Reid lacked the fortitude to be firm yet not corner himself with making hyperbolic statements is also true.

The Democratic leadership are not fit to be leaders. Conviction, fortitude, a steadfast direction: all these leadership qualities are lacking from the Senate and House leaders. A strong Senate leader would never had made the statement Reid made, instead stating that he or she believes in Illinois state government's and resident's ability to secure their state interests in regards to the Senate appointment matter.

What did Reid do? He put his finger in the air and followed where the current tide led him.

How many times is this now? Words cannot describe my distain for Reid, and Nancy ain’t to far behind. The very first thing these nit wits did we they got in power was to start grandstanding themselves into corners only having to eat a truck load of ass and crow, at our expense, to get out. The dems could not wait to start making fools of themselves after the midterm election. In fact they could not even wait until they got into power before inserting foot in mouth. That moron Wrangle went off half cocked about reinstating the draft in what can only be described as feeble attempt to a make a philosophical argument over social justice. If they wanted to stop the war, all they had to do was tell the republicans to reach in their pockets (base) and pay for it. End of story. What hasn’t that spineless weasel Reid not backed down from? He let the republicans have everything they wanted since Daschle left, not that Daschle did a great job either.  But really, anything Bush wanted Reid has delivered wearing kneepads and a bib. He makes me sick.

due to the spelling I wasn't sure if it was what I thought it was.

From Nigeria, the Niger Delta region to be exact. So hell no, I'm not changing the name. The name is a play on words and purposely a double entendre. Don't like it, ask me why I chose it, and if the reasoning is insufficient then ask for change.

And you immigrated to the U.S.? Please enlighten us regarding your path to citizenship. Thank you.

Not born in Nigeria, though my first memories were from Nigeria (age 2) and it was where I first went to school. My dad and mom were in the US on a school visa, where my dad went to Case Western University and Columbia University. I was born in NYC. My parents went through the immigration process when we moved back about 18 years ago.

Immigration is usually given through a lottery system of applicants who file for visas in most developing countries. When the aplication is chosen, you then take the required vaccinations and fill out further paperwork and it's off to the US. The thing is the lottery system can take years to decades.

Now illegal immigrants from Central America are probably dealing with the similar bureacracy, but living in terrible circumstances. So when the months and years start to pile up while waiting, the incentive is to cross the border, immigration process be damned. There is a need for better laws and physical regulation before setting up an amnesty program as it sets the incentive for increased illegal immigration.

I'll give you the benefit of the doubt, then.

Just the timing with our first black President about to take office and your name being 2 letters from n*ggerarchy, I assumed the worst.

Welcome to TYT's, BTW.

so we didn't realize that the term involved racial implications.

Now if someone chose a nic that replaced the suffix "achy" with "lynchy", I wonder if it would be quite as funny.

I never heard that one before.

I guess I am behind on my racial slurs.

I retract my retraction of your support.

Question:  Why are all the N-words on that site spelled with one g?  Have I been spelling it wrong all my life?

I had a friend who frequently employed the word "NI-jers" back in the 1980s. He used it liberally, as if other people couldn't possibly crack "the code".

This guy was from Dallas, and he ran with Micky Mantle and Billy Martin. I think they all used the word.

Ken, I am truly sorry that both the Ravens and Eagles kicked the shit out the "them Cowboys". And yes, while “them Cowboys” do suck, there is no need for you to continue you race based profanity laden rant from last two Sundays evenings on TYT. You are going to give yourself turrets.

We are trying to convince this gentleman that he could make a better choice when it comes to nics or usernames. I don't care if he spells "niger" with one "G" or two "Gs", he doesn't need to use an intentionally inflammatory and offensive word.

By the way, where is our friend Chris? We need his input on this issue.

This has nothing to do with the Cowboys, who are beyond help. Luckily, I am much more of a college fan than a pro fan.

Really, people are actually trying to break down my nickname?
Take it for what I say it is... and take my origin for what I say it is... parents from southern Nigeria in Delta State.

The first part of my name is taken from the NIGER RIVER, not the N-word. No code, no hidden language, no trying to get one over anybody. If I really wanted to use the N-word I would have done it, period.

This is not to say that I did not take into account that people would make the inference that I meant "nigger" and not "Niger". But that in itself would be a starting point to talk about the origin of the N-word.

The N-word originates from the Portuguese and Spanish word for black: negro or negra.
This was the terminology used for black slaves in Europe and the Americas as the Portuguese were the first to start the Sub-Saharan Transatlantic slave trade. There was also a French cognate of black- negre.

Niger and Nigeria are not derived from negro, its not.

I'm probably going to change my nickname if for no other reason than to have people focus on the topics I write on than comment on the taboo of a nickname most will pigeonhole into what it was never meant to be.

Sorry, the nickname is no new slang, and focus on the post.

We would greatly prefer to focus on the content of your topics, not the color of your nickname.

I readily admit that I'm distracted and bothered by the "N" word, so I appreciate your kind consideration.

I would like to bet on this one ! Get ready folks, Blago just got over on all of the other political scummers. You got to love this cats balls. He is laughing at all of these jokers with that goofy grin on his face. I think he may be a tad retarded in several ways but he sure is fun to watch. With the Obama Chicago roots we should be in store for some to compete with the oval office knob polisher. Get used to saying Senator Burris !
