House votes to hold Whitehouse aides in contempt

Finally, some kind of a stand!  Did I catch a glimpse of some balls in the house?

Here is a quote from Dana Perino:

"Today, the United States House of Representatives did something that had never been done in the entire 150-year history of the contempt of Congress statute: it voted to hold in contempt two top White House officials who had been directed by the President not to comply with House Judiciary Committee subpoenas on the basis of the President's assertion of Executive Privilege. The officials in question are the Chief of Staff to the President and the former Counsel to the President, two of the very closest advisers upon whom a President must rely. This action is unprecedented, and it is outrageous. It is also an incredible waste of time - time the House should spend doing the American people's legislative business."

I love it!  Finally a show of solidarity.  I was beginning to wonder if they would never stand up to those criminal assholes.  Maybe once they get the taste of blood in their mouths they'll develop a liking for it and shred some neocon butt for a change.

"This act is unprecendented!" she shrieks.   As if Bush's horrendous abuse of signing statements was "precedented".  Give me a break.

Now if only they would take this and run with it.

WOOT WOOT!  This could be great.  But I don't ever want to "catch a glimpse of some balls in the house".   (I'm seven years old)

Here it is from Democratic Underground

Source: C-SPAN

H.RES.982 - PASSED by 223-32 - Most Republicans walked out

Title: Providing for the adoption of the resolution (H. Res. 979) recommending that the House of Representatives find Harriet Miers and Joshua Bolten, Chief of Staff, White House, in contempt of Congress for refusal to comply with subpoenas duly issued by the Committee on the Judiciary and for the adoption of the resolution (H. Res. 980) authorizing the Committee on the Judiciary to initiate or intervene in judicial proceedings to enforce certain subpoenas.

EDIT:
The resolution just passed also gives the lawyers of the House Chamber the authority to go to the Judicial Branch to enforce the subpeona.

Just a reference to the juvenile ball joke I made.

Lesson learned:  My lame sense of humor never works on the internet... EVER!  No matter how sophmoric and retarded it is, unless there's a funny pic/video with it, it's a no go.  Yet somehow Tim pulls it off, so go figure...

...it doesn't help that I'm a little dense about such things.

Since Mukasey has stated he won't enforce such citations, is this anything more than symbolic?

It feels like the whole concept of "rule of law" has become a quaint anachronism.  How can you expect people to follow laws when their "leaders" so clearly don't need to?  In this case all I see is another highly visible example of how once again illegal activities will have no real consequences.  Is this what our kids are supposed to aspire to?
