Barack fundraising breaking all records!

Google Technorati del.icio.us digg reddit
check out barack's web site.

They have set a goal of reaching 1 million donors by March 4, and at 6:00 PM eastern where at 911,000.

Now I thought that that was a bit much. To get 89,000 donors in 13 days; that requires 6850/day, 285/hr, one donor/12.6 seconds.

But now, I have checked the site again, and as of 10:36 pm eastern, Barack was up to 927,605 donors, a 16,600 donor gain in just 4.5 hours! That comes to 3,600 donors/hour or 1 donor/second.

Now I realize that most of this must be from the absolute thrashing Barack dished out to Clinton yesterday, but damned it, if the man's not a money raising machine!

I wouldn't be surprised if he raises $35 million in February, which would be the highest amount by any politician in US history!

And of course, more amazing is that it's not corporate cash, nor PAC money, but from  over 900,000 people like myself, who give whenever we can.

I started off a year ago giving Obama some small change, $5 and $10 when it looked like he was a serious candidate. Then when he started winning primaries another $15 after Iowa, $15 more after SC, then $5/state after that, (I am happy to say I am paying through the nose, what with the 23 states he's won since then:)

I would love to see Obama reach, surpass the 1 million mark, then reset it higher, perhaps 1.5 million by PA, 2 million by the convention, 2.5 million by Nov 4. If he could pull such numbers, 1% of all Americans donating cold hard cash, then there would be little doubt who would win in November. (Of course he is sure to get at least 1/2 of 1% of Americans donating, which is still better than any candidate has ever done)

The Obama campaign released their official fund raising numbers for January and it was over $36 million, up $4 million from their earlier estimate.

Dude is going nuts raising cash.  No wonder grandpa death is trying to pull the public financing card.

This is why I am against public financing in this particular campaign. Many of us want to give our $5, $10, $20 to the Obama campaign. It really makes us all feel like we are part of the movement. Why should we be deprived of that? If McCain wants to do public financing and Obama agrees to it, fine. But, they should still allow individuals to make small (up to $100 total) donations.
