diet drinks, no mention of...

just read through the diet drink thread, i don't know a lot about it but i thought that aspartame was the nasty one.

wiki says -

'The artificial sweetener aspartame has been the subject of a vigorous public controversy regarding its safety and the circumstances around its approval. A few studies have recommended further investigation into the possible connection between aspartame and diseases such as brain tumors, brain lesions, and lymphoma. These findings, combined with alleged conflicts of interest in the approval process, have engendered vocal activism regarding the possible risks of aspartame.'

my friend was telling me about some scary results from experiments on rats.  speaking of rats...'conflicts of interest'? please see donald rumsfeld for more information

was mentioned early on by another poster friend (who's name I can't recall for some reason).

The reason I didn't directly talk about aspartame (which is much more common than saccharin anyway, making it strange they chose to use saccharin in the study) is because it wasn't used in the new rat study.

But hey, like I wrote, if I use diet products they are almost always flavored with Splenda (generally regard to be the safest according to many organizations, including outside the US).  Sure there are some conspiracy kooks who think anything other than raw (and organic) fruits and vegetables will kill you, but I'm somewhere in between.
