Now on to the business at hand, 2 new states were added to the list today! That makes 15 states so far, totaling 208 electoral votes, 38.6% of the total.
These states are:
New Jersey, Clinton beats Mac by 6, Obama beats him by 7, a true blue state, no surprises here.
Kansas: Mac beats Clinton by 24, Mac beats Obama by 6, also not a surprise here, except that Obama is actually competative in this state. Chock up 6 EVs for the Republicans.
State Update:
Pennsylvania: Clinton showing strength, now ties Mac. Obama in a stunning turnaround now loses to Mac by 1.
New York: Clinton over Mac by 11, Obama over Mac by 21, nothing special there.
Virginia: Mac over Clinton by 10, but a big disappointment for Obama, Mac now beats Obama by 5.
So overall an exciting day, with 2 new states added and the overall winner was McCain, picking up a poll from Kansas and tieing Clinton in MI, as well as taking PA and VA from Obama.
Here are the current EV totals.
Clinton vs McCain:
Clinton: 50, 24%
McCain: 120, 57.7%
note: PA and MI are tied between Clinton and Mac, so neither gets the EVs from those states, thus the %s don't add to 100%.
Obama vs McCain:
Obama: 110, 52.9%
McCain: 98, 47.1%
Conclusion: Obama still the stronger candidate against McCain, though Clinton is narrowing the % lead with Mac and McCain appears to be gaining on Obama.
Note, these trends are most likely due to the current states that have head to head polls. Most are blue states and thus McCain can be expected to gain strength as more red states come in over the coming weeks.
