Oscar Night! (Best Picture Poll)

It's Oscar time!  Make your predictions, talk crap, tell us who you think is hot or not, etc. and don't forget to take the poll!

Rainy days equals perfect Oscar day watching.  Are you guys pumped or what!   The strike is finally over and Jon Stewart’s back hosting for a second time.  Everyone’s talking about the possible “No Country for Old Men” big sweep – NOT BUYING IT!  I like the Coen Brothers, but just didn’t think this shit-kicking movie was all that special.   OK, I give Javier Bardem “Best Supporting Actor” for bringing the terminator back to the screen and maybe a win for Best Film Editing, but that’s it.  Then again I thought Juno was a piece of crap so what do I know.  Like last year’s “Little Miss Sunshine.” Juno was fun and entertaining though definitely not Oscar worthy.  How dare that little twat try to take a jab Sonic Youth and Michael Cera - you need to start acting and move beyond your days on “Arrested Development.”  Sure some of the writing was great, but onscreen it came off very gimmicky and unbelievable.  I can’t believe Cenk said this was the one movie that did it for him.  I’m sure, if ever made, “The Young Turk” would blow this movie out of the water – shoot higher Cenk, way higher!

So moving on, in my mind we’re left with “Atonement” and “There Will Be Blood” (yes I’m leaving out “Michael Clayton, but what the hell, I can’t stand Clooney).  I want to rip the living crap out of “Atonement”, but I haven’t seen it so I’ll hold for now until after the 1:30 showing today.  The only good thing I can see about this movie is Keira Knightley – not because she’s talented, but because she somewhat resembles Winona Ryder (and that’s a good thing in my book).  Like with the Oscar’s love for British crap (i.e. Judi Dench, The Queen, etc.), I’m afraid “Atonement” has a good shot at Best Picture.  Let me just say, I’ll be very pissed if this happens.  So, if you haven’t figured it out, I’m rooting for “There Will Be Blood.”   I thought this was an awesome movie on all fronts and a guarantee win for Daniel Day-Lewis for Best Actor.  Yes Johnny Depp was great in the musical, “Sweeney Todd” even if he ripped Bowie off, but Johnny might as well stay home at his French Chateau and tend to his kids (A little Winona bitterness, maybe)..

I’m off to waste two hours of my life that I will never be able to get back (Atonement showing), so have fun on the red carpet if I don’t make it in time.  Oh yeah – don’t forget Michael Moore’s “Sicko” is up for Best Documentary!

Just got back from the show and I take back all the mean things I said about Atonement. Obviously I still want "There Will Be Blood" to win, but I officially change my prediction for Best Picture to Atonement.  This movie was well crafted and definitely more than a "chic k" flick as Cenk described.  Why again do I trust his movie reviews?  I won't lie, I pulled a Hillary at the end (no tears, but close), but pulled it together during the credits...

No Country and Blood were filmed in Marfa, TX where they filmed Giant. Those were great movies. Everything else on the list is gay. Now back to my son and partner, HW Rev24.

I guess you're right KenTx - a manly night in Hollywood it was.  Since I obviously went with the losers, I publicly accept my inability to tap into the Academy member's minds and call it a night.  Yes I waffled at the end after being swayed by Keira's beauty and the powers of love and war.  I' m just glad There Will be Blood at least won for Best Cinematography over No Country for Old Men and how can you not love the Daniel Day Lewis win- now there's an actor!  I'll keep my tact and won't even throw in any cheap shots on the Coen Brothers for their Oscar presence or lack of.   I could go on forever, so for now someone should tell Jack Nicholson that his schtick is getting real old...

Oh yeah, I almost forgot - hottest woman of the night goes to that French beauty Marion Cotillard.  Congratulations on the win for Best Actress in La Vie En Rose.  You make listening to Edith Piaf a whole new experience...

No Country was a good pick.  I haven't seen TWBB yet, but I think No Country is a solid best picture.

Who forced you to sit through Atonement?

Someone should tell the Coen Brothers that there's something called "character development" that really makes movies good.  Check it out and decide for yourself.  But moving on, after seeing Atonement I really thought it had a shot at Best Picture.  I wasn't going to see it, but thought it was only fair to check it out before criticizing it.  Although this movie starts off a little slow, it gets better and it ends up being a very powerful movie.  There's one of the most amazing war scenes at the end that's done in one shot of the ravaged British army on the beach of Dunkirk.  It's truly awesome and far from "gay" as you put it....

I believe there's something to be said for making the characters insanely interesting in the first place, and then just stepping out of the way while the hilarity ensues.

On the other hand, I do sometimes enjoy the "descent into madness" meme.  ;-)

this crazy red carpet incident where Gary Busey made a fool of himself.

How cool would it be if TYT got him on the Post Game.  Just make sure all the woman are safe and give Cenk a taser gun for protection.  Though in defense of Gary, do people take that Seacrest guy seriously?

Busey and Myricegirl in the TYT studio at the same time.  That would be um-- something.

I don't know why all these comment ratings suddenly popped up, but you get the first "perfect" rating for that idea Spencer!

What did you think of Garner's reaction?  Too little, too much or just right?

but I have to admit the guy is pretty creepy especially if he kissed her neck...

Even if Ben was there, Busey would kick Affleck ass!

I think she could've made more of a joke out of it.

If I ever got a chance to lick Jennifer Garner's neck I'd probably take it.  Everyone knows Busey is crazy anyway, so I'm sure he figures the same thing.

If he actually licked it, that's a level of grossness higher.

I haven't seen Taxi to the Darkside (but I have seen Tales From The Darkside) though...

That movie looks really good and a definite must see in my book for the future.  I thought the director gave one of the best speeches of the night.  If you didn't see it, he was the one who said his wife would rather him make romantic comedies, but with Guantanamo, Abu Graib, and extraordinary rendition, he had no choice but to make this film.
