Michael Jackson is the universal hello!

R.J. and I shared a similar experience in foreign lands that happens to be pretty strange. What's up with people just randomly saying Michael Jackson to Americans?
When R.J. just happened to talk about his experience with an Albanian running up to him and saying,"Michael Jackson" it instantly reminded me of this past spring break. Yasemin and I were in Istanbul, and while walking down Divan yolu, this man just shouted "Michael Jackson" at us when we walked by. He was genuinely excited, and it was definately not meant to be offensive. It's like he wanted to let me know that he's hip to American culture, but he only has 2 words to do it because he has to do it while walking by. I can almost imagine the conversation,"You know Michael Jackson? Thriller was awesome man...."and so forth, but it's all summed into "MICHAEL JACKSON!" Has Michael Jackson's music transcended cultural barriers so much that it is the world's only common ground? Wouldn't that be fucked!
