Will A Hot Girl Make You Vote For Obama?

I really, really doubt it.

But I wouldn't put it past some of you.  ;)

the values voters would be outraged.

PS---There is no shortage of hot women on YouTube who make you happy that you can mute your PC.  Although in this clip (not the Obamagirl clip) there are a couple of shots where she looks plastic (literally), which bothers me.

The "Obama Girl' phenomenon is a perfect example of both what is so right and so wrong about the Obama candidacy...

First of all, iShe is a symbol and an acknowledgement of the youth culture in our country and their need for gratification on several levels. Obama Girl is smokin hot, funny and has an Ass I could eat dinner off of.

Obama is also a symbol, one of change and gratification. He's young, smart, witty and knows how to electrify an audience, and for the females out there, has abs that they could eat off of.

And this is what is going to be Obamas demise, unfortunately...he's smart, hes witty, hes popular and most people in their middle ages and all of the flyover people are not going to vote for him because he represents youth and change. He has no substance whatsoever in his speeches, only empty rhetoric and charm. I'm not even gonna get into the experience thing...

I personally like Obama - he seems like a genuinly nice guy.

Nice guys finish last in this kind of race...

And I'm gonna say it, even though I'll catch loads of shit for it.

Most white folk aint gonna vote for a black guy. We've come a long way, but we aint that far yet...

Sorry...

doesn't sexism transcend ALL races?

Also, I've heard a lot of *women* who aren't crazy about the idea of a woman president, because they have ingrained ideas about gender roles and how men are "strong", etc. I disagree, but I do think Hillary picked a bad time to run as far as overcoming sexism goes.

I think her chances would be better (not saying she can't or won't get elected mind you) if it were a time of peace. It would allow her to avoid a lot of the (unwarranted) gender concerns regarding women being soft during a time of war.

I think there are more people in this country willing to vote for a woman before they would vote for an African American. There are a lot more women in this country who feel that it is their turn to be represented.

You are right - Sexism does transcend racism.

You are also right in saying that Hillary has picked a Hell of a time to run. The democrats would have been much safer and smarter to run a run of the mill white man this time, and then go for the new direction that both Obama and Clinton represent. Plus Hillary, rightly or wrongly, comes across as such a Bitch...

The ONLY chance that any Republican has to win is gonna be because of this. if Clinton and Obama had not run this time around, someone like Edwards or Gore would have won in a landslide, no questions asked.

I hate being the harbinger of doom and negativity, but the Democratic Party really played this one bad...and Howard Dean is mostly responsible for it. I truly hope that I am wrong, and that the country can bring themselves to "pull the lever" for change.

I'm just not that confident in the intelligence and spirit of the American people. Remember, I see their children everyday at school, and "oh the hope they bring me" (that was sarcasm for those of you who have a hard time with it!)

Thanks again...

I live in flyover country and I think he's playing very very well out here in the West at least.  The amazing thing his success in white-bread country.

I am glad to hear it, and I hope you are right and I am wrong. Honestly, it would bring me great joy to see the change happen in my lifetime!!

If a tall, skinny, young caucasian with only two years in the Senate had run for president on a vacuous promise of change, he would have been laughed off the campaign trail long ago. Obama is still in the race only because he's black.

you must remember, though that white people voting for Obama are mostly liberal 'progressive" (I hate that word, why dont y'all just say what you are, LIBERAL)Democrats, throw in your Republicans, Libertarians, Ron Paul Nuts, Nazis, Rednecks, Bigots and average dumb americans (I think you get the point) and now we're having a conversation during a GENERAL election where everybody decides.

I think you underestimate the numbers of those aforementioned groups.

There are still more of them than there are of white LIBERAL progressives

I don't call myself a progressive. I'm a classical liberal. I'm also a news and politics junkie.

Didn't you say you're a teacher? I don't think you did your homework. There is some evidence that Obama would not fare as poorly in a general election as you suppose. Let's dive into some exit polls from CNN.

Of course, in Democratic primaries, most of the people voting for Obama are Democrats. That only stands to reason. However, the votes of Democrats alone are not enough in many cases to propel Obama to victory. Take the case of Missouri. Obama won the primary with 49 percent to Hillary's 48%. But among self described Democrats Hillary won 50% to Obama's 47%. It was among self described Republicans that Obama won 75% to Hillary's 21%. And among self described Independents Obama won 67% to Hillary's 30%.

This phenomenon is not exclusive to MO. In Connecticut, Obama won 51% to Hillary's 47%. However, among only Democrats, Clinton won 50% to Obama's 48%. Obama won Independents by 62% to Hillary's 32%.

It was the votes of independents, not progressives, that secured victory for Obama in those two states. That evidence contradicts your theory that he would be at a disadvantage in the general election.

If I get to keep her then maybe.  That'd definitely be a hell of a tie-breaker between Obama and Clinton, neither of whom I can really stomach.

Get used to it, and put a smile on, unless you want four more years of Republicans running things.

Fact of Life: None of us ever will see our "perfect" candidate nominated.  This is a big country with a lot of competing interests -- and that is a good thing.  Any candidate who would perfectly suit my tastes probably would run this country into the ground.  It's entirely likely that I don't know enough to run the country well and that a large portion of the population would rise up to slay anyone who tried to do things the exact way that I want.  That's why I'm willing to compromise.

You've got to respect your priorities: Do you favor Democrats or Republicans?  My first priority is getting rid of the Republicans.  We can no longer afford the damage that they always do to our country.

To an extent I understand his point in that we'll never REALLY fix the system or have dramatic *positive* change until we have public financing in place for several years (to clean out all the garbage).

But to that point, Obama is the candidate (from both partiers) most likely to actually move us in that direction based on his voting record and plan on his website.

The revolution begins with public campaign financing.

I could only stand a few seconds of Obama Girl. I lasted almost a minute into the celebrities reading Obama's speech video. However, this video held my attention to the end.
