NEW MEXICO FOR OBAMA!

Google Technorati del.icio.us digg reddit
as of 1:47 AM eastern, with 38% of the precints reporting Obama is slightly ahead in NM after being down by 10% or so earlier!

If Obama can bring in NM that would make 14/22 states on super tuesday that he won. A week ago that seemed highly unlikely, 2 weeks ago, impossible.

If Barak can close Hillaries lead in CA, he will be well placed to catch up and overtake her over the coming months.

There is a chance that this thing could go all the way to June 3rd when Montana and South Dakota vote, as the last 2 states.

On a personal note, I am very pleased that my state, MN, turned out overwhelmingly for Obama. I brought my entire family to the caucuses and it was incredible how packed it was.

I told my father that the exitement he felt was the smell of change in the air and that all these people where here to support one person and it wasn't clinton.

Looks like I was right. Great job Barack, sleep the sleep of champions tonight for tomorrow you have to get your ass to the next set of states. Don't forget there are 5 more primaries and caucuses this weekend, worth some 200 delegates.

One thing that I think is awesome (and it seems to have gone unreported) is that the red states went pretty solidly for Obama.  Us red state liberals (I'm from CO) remember what it was like during the Clinton years, and we know what kind of people would come climbing out of the woodwork to keep another Clinton out of office.

The New Mexico Democratic Party hasn't updated their web site with results since just before midnight last night.  I know that my county has filed its results (I don't know what they were), but we're still not listed.

A majority of the Hispanic population here, which is about 35% of the whole, supports Clinton, although it doesn't seem to be as big a majority as it is in California.  It's possible that Obama could pull it out, but it's too close to call.

I've been thinking of moving to New Mexico, so I like news like this!

As of 2/6/2008 8:28 p.m. (MST) with 183 of 184 sites reporting, Clinton leads Obama 66,278 (43.42%) to 65,243 (42.74%), less that 1000 votes.  The remaing site to report may have a hundred votes or less and is in an urban county.  Urban counties in New Mexico favored Obama, while more sparsely populated areas favored Clinton.

Of significant note: There are 17,077 provisional ballots that remain to be processed.  However, it looks like Clinton and Obama will very nearly split the state.
