My Grandma's Theory on MSM's Coverage of the Election

The other night while my grandma and I were watching the MSM's coverage of Super Tuesday (P.S. Thanks for the coverage TYT, kicked ass, as expected!) she said something that I found very interesting.

She's got this feeling that the Main Stream Media are trying to push Hillary as the Democratic nominee because they know she will lose against McCain.

I found this theory rather interesting and wondered if anybody else felt the same way.

If this is true, it is one more reason to choose Obama.

I have no doubt that corporate America would feel more comfortable with Clinton than Obama.  Obama is the one who -- right up front in his "Blueprint for Change" -- proposes public financing of campaigns.  That certainly would rob the corporations of their political influence and give it back to the people.

But we also see how a Republican-controlled media is trying to influence absolutely everything.

Obama is getting plenty of publicity and getting more in contributions than Clinton.  And Obama has many more small donors who can continue to contribute, while many of Clinton's larger donors have given her all that the law allows and can't help her anymore (Bloomberg).

But is it a conspiracy?  I doubt it.  The corporations are simply doing what they always do: looking after their interests without regard to what is in the public interest.

One person mentioned somewhere that it would actually be much easier to publicly bash Hillary on the basis of her sex than to publicly bash Obama on the basis of race.  Look at what has happened already when she has "cried."  But both of these candidates have very large reservoirs of potential voters if they can stimulate them to vote.  I believe that women are one of the largest groups of untapped voters, and you can be SURE they will come out in hordes if her victory is threatened.  My 80-year mom and all her gal pals seem to be for Obama, but I'm sure they will back Hil if she is the candidate.  I really think that the republicans will go down in flames, but I thought that in 2004 too, so a little part of me is scared.

by desertpear on 02/08/2008 11:26:42 PM EST

Our moms, who both back Obama, are bucking the trend.  Older women are supposed to be supporting Clinton, while the younger ones go for Obama.  But then my mom has always been unpredictable.

But I'm glad that "a little part" of you is scared.  Go with that feeling.  Never doubt that the Democrats could lose this election.  Republicans have no ethics and will lie, cheat, and steal in order to get into office.  Democrat s have to be so honest and open that the contrast makes them irresistable, always keeping in mind that it's a fight to the death.

"always keeping in mind that it's a fight to the death"

Then your side has been dead for 14 years, because Democrats have been unable to advance the "progressive agenda" one single inch since 1994.

The same was true of the period 1981-1992.

So if you're keeping score, Democrats enjoyed only two years of successful activism in the last 27 years.

So, when we're all sitting around in the retirement home, I'll have bragging rights.

Now thats really a bunch of spin...bullshit. You, meaning the Republicans, have had the Presidency and a clear majority in Congress only once since 1980...during 6 years of the Bush II administration.

I wont regale you with how massively fucked up the country is under that stewardship. But in any case conservative " activism" is called gridlock and your "side" has been practicing it since the" Reagan Revolution"  But by all means keep thinking

I'll have bragging rights

because thats precisely why we are we are today. Its not about pride of accomplishment nor anything of permanence...its simply grabbing a few tax cuts, greed, self enrichment and bragging rights.

But in any case conservative " activism" is called gridlock and your "side" has been practicing it since the" Reagan Revolution".

The objective of conservatives has always been preventing Democrats from advancing their socialist agenda in a game of keep away. In the last 27 years, Democrats have controlled all branches of government for only two years: 1993-1994. Voters were so outraged with their performance that they overhwhelmingly voted the bums out of power in the "Tsunami of 1994". People didn't like Democrat Party control.

Will Democrats recapture power again in 2008? There's a very good chance of that happening. Even Haley's Comet comes around once every 72 years.

But after Democrats spend two years trying to ram their agenda down our throats with surrender to al Qaeda, socialized medicine, gay marriage, instant citizenship for 12 million new Democrat voters, how do you think voters will respond in the 2010 midterm elections?

It will look a lot like 1994.

Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton will start drawing down troops immediately. Iraq. Afghanistan. And every other Middle East deployment.

Then, what will happen next?

Fred and Zippy love to tell this forum the way things are, and they way things are going to be. But I missed something.

Does anyone remember those guys telling us who they voted for in the NY and FL primaries?

And Zippy frequently claims to be a "Former Republican". Who is the last Republican that Zippy voted for in a presidential election? How about an honest answer?

by KenTX on 02/09/2008 09:19:38 PM EST

And I voted for Bush I.  I've gotten my sanity since then.  Thus far the stuff Zip posts makes a ton more sense than what you post.

And Bush II surrendered to the terrorists already. He did so when he used their own tactics to scare us into Iraq.  He did so when he used their terror tactics to scare us into giving up our freedoms for "Homeland Security."  He surrenders to the terrorists every single time he uses fear to scare us into supporting his latest hare-brained schemes designed to fatten the pocketbooks of his handlers and concentrate power in the Executive.

He's Osama bin Laden's greatest ally. So is every Republican who supports his policies.  Vote for more of the same and the terrorists win again.

So don't blather idiocies like "surrender" when brave people talk about getting us the HELL out of the messes the fear-mongering terrorist-kissing Repugnicons have gotten us into.  It's just stupid and sad to see.

"If you must know I voted for McCain."

MRFred voted for McCain in the FL primary, and KenTX will vote for Obama in the TX primary.

Ultimately, Obama will win the White House, because 2008 is the year of the Democrat.

But the pay-off will be witnessing the end of Hillary Clinton's presidential aspirations. I will volunteer to pack up her campaign headquarters.

Spoken like a true Limbaugh fan. If it all does come true do not forget to send a thank you note to the person who made it all possible.

Thank you too Ken

I'm voting for Barack Obama in the Democrat Primary because I love America.

Mr Fred voted for John McCain in the Republican Primary because he hates America.

Mr Fred is a Conservative Democrat.

KenTX is a Liberal Republican.

Our votes always cancel each other out.

Last Republican President Bob Dole. Prior to that Bush Sr. twice. Couldn't vote for Bush Jr. though, politicians who wave the Bible around too much give me the creeps. I had a huge problem with that when I lived in the South.

Last Republican period was Jim Walsh in 02. Bush Jr destroyed his career so I will not get the opportunity again.

I am a registered independent in NY so I can not vote in the primaries.

Any more questions?

predictions. Your not very good at it.

They never said Afghanistan and you know it. In fact both candidates have stated that there will be more emphasis on Afghanistan which incidentally the bulk of al Qeada is ( and Wasiristan

"And every other Middle East deployment" is simply a lie.

But the Republican plan is and has been following Osamas playbook...by ignoring his clearly stated strategy So thur stupidity your right wing friends have deliverd two of his three major objectives so far.

But don't worry , your sheik friends will battle on in Iraq

What can progressives point to as "progress"?

Its been fun watching the Republican  party unravel. We went right to the brink of fascism. At one point people where being tossed out of speeches by the secret service because they dared disagree with the President. The president was breaking laws left and right. Torturing, spying, secret prisons on and on. But Democracy won out. The country is so sick of the damage done its almost like the whole country has moved past Bush already. I keep forgetting he is still the president.  The conservatives brains must be wired differently because they keep on the same path making speeches about islamofacism and Democrats surrendering to terror the just don't get it. It would actually be sad if it wasn't so fun.

The likely nomination of John McCain is a refutation of the neocons.  They are trying furiously to rationalize it, but the answer is simple, the country has had enough of the far-right ideology.  They've seen it hasn't worked and they now realize that it is essentially driven by greed and the thirst for power.  More than anything else the cons have demonstrated over and over and over again that they will always use the government to benefit themselves.  You elect one of those kinds of people and they see themselves as "made" men, like in the mafia.  They view it as a license to make money.  They pass legislation that benefits whoever backed them and of course their own interests.  They buy the weak-minded by cutting their taxes, pretending that spending and debt doesn't matter, but in the end, of course, it always does.

Because the repubs can't change the minds of those with any higher education or native intelligence, they try to buy the support of the rest with tax cuts.  I am so sick of their appeals to the lowest common denominators of people's motivation--greed, selfishness, fear.  And I'm sick of being treated like an idiot who can't see through their tactics and attempts at secrecy.
