Desire

Google Technorati del.icio.us digg reddit
I have desires.  Many many hot desires.

I want a hybrid minivan.  I'm going to steal one.

I want a farm with 20 acres.  I'm going to rob a bank and buy one.

I want a hot 22 year old guy who knows how to give good head.  I'm going to pay for one.

I want to stop developers from creating McMansions in the northwest.  I'm going to join ELF and burn them down.

My human desires explains everything.  I have no control.

adamg's electoral vote statistics may show that McCain could win the Presidency but lose the popular vote, in which case I will get locked up, probably several times until they decide to throw away the key.

But I'm not sure that I believe you.  Does a "blue heart" steal minivans or rob banks?  It's hard for me to conceive.  Yeah, the ELF part is a bit easier to understand, but maybe not.

But I grok that desire.  And I understand not having control.  And that's why I can't believe you would ever have to pay.

how many people will get that "grok" reference (without looking it up)?

You should take your medications prior to posting on this board.

My desire is for you to enjoy a happy and hassle free forum experience.

If that was an insult, you missed by a mile because it just doesn't make any sense.  But don't feel bad about it.  It's far beyond the capability of a Republican to understand what's going on here.  You'd have to have a good heart.

And I'm just looking out for you.

You should dial it down from a ten to a two.

Just as soon as I think you're a good person, I'll tell you.

Your first reply to me in this thread was:

"You should take your medications prior to posting on this board.

"My desire is for you to enjoy a happy and hassle free forum experience."

Unprovoked, you attempted to hassle me and then told me that you want me to have a hassle-free experience.  You're obviously a liar and a hipocrit, motivated to bring unhappiness to others.  So if you want to continue this, you can do it alone.

I'm trying to help you avoid making a mistake.

This forum once had a participant who made similar comments.

He departed shortly thereafter.

Thanks, 1xx3xy, but I was listening to a particularly good mood-altering playlist at the time:

Ryan Adams - Desire
John Cale - Hallelujah
U2 - One
John Hiatt - Blue Telescope
Janis Ian - At Seventeen
Collective Soul - Shine
Chris Isaak - Wicked Game
Colin Hay - Overkill
Puddle of Mudd - Blurry
Staind - Fade
Staind - It's Been A While
Staind - Outside
Fuel - Innocent
Incubus - Drive
Lifehouse - Spin
Lifehouse - Out of Breath
Lifehouse - Take Me Away
Emerson, Lake & Palmer - From The Beginning
Emerson, Lake & Palmer - Lucky Man
Joan Osborne - What if God was one of us?
Indigo Girls - Go
Indigo Girls - Soon Be To Nothing
Indigo Girls - Welcome Me
Indigo Girls - Secure Yourself
Indigo Girls - Closer To Fine

So, as you can see, I did take my "medicine" before I posted in this forum, as KenTX actually had suggested.

That kind of music is very strong medicine.

What, you mean you're not all that excited about the gracious and magnanimous offer of "help" from KenTX?

by bfaul on 03/13/2008 10:45:01 AM EST

I'm sure that lots of folks would agree that I can use all the help that I can get.  But in KenTX's case, I'll have to take your word about that "gracious and magnanimous" part.

Our friend from New Mexico routinely posts inflammatory remarks that can be construed as unlawful. I'm trying to warn him to tone it down.

We once had a participant who posted similar remarks. After a visit from the Secret Service, he was no longer a participant.

Is that explanation clear enough for you?

Learn it, live it, love it - yeah - U-S-A!  I assume you were joking about the mini van 'cause mini vans are lame unless course you're an Arizona soccer mom....

Are you one of those women who uses "giving head" as a unisex term, or are you a dude?  :)

by jarett on 03/13/2008 06:04:22 AM EST

I suspect that jarett likes to give head and might be looking for new opportunities, although he doesn't specify his preference.

(That's the problem when you go for the young guys, blueheartinaredstate: inexperience.  Could any 22-year old guy know how to give good head?  I know that most women don't learn the art until they're older.)

Yep, I am sure many of us secretly desire a hybrid minivan.

One with flames and  the number 18 painted on it Your feeling me, you love it.

"I want a hot 22 year old guy who knows how to give good head.  I'm going to pay for one."

When I read the about your other desires I think to myself:  Don't do it!  You'll lose your soul!  But on this particular one I'm thinking I wouldn't mind watching.

by bfaul on 03/13/2008 10:52:17 AM EST

No, I'm a gymnastics mom from Kentucky and I really DO want a hybrid minivan - more room without as much gas mileage guilt.

It really didn't occur to me that people wouldn't get what I was saying.

I'm tired of hearing men say that their desires for strange pussy are too overpowering.  The poor boys just can't help themselves.

If you can't do monogamy, don't get married or otherwise commit to monogamy.  I think Cenk is right to be wary.  It sounds like he doesn't think HE can resist.

Not that there's anything wrong with that.  As long as you don't commit to monogamy and then lie.

by blueheartinaredstate on 03/13/2008 03:32:22 PM EST

That's the problem with women.  They don't seem to understand that they're talking to men!  Y'know?  Venus?  Mars?  That stuff?

As to the point that you apparently wanted to talk about but didn't make clear to us dense men, there are just as many women who lust after strange dick as there are men who crave strange pussy.  But most of us from both sexes are happy with what we've got.  And if you don't already get it, these conditions are unlikely to change.

Ever.

Get used to it.  Deal with it as it happens.  In the meantime, get on with your own life and quit worrying about it.

None of the "desires" you listed are biologically ingrained in every fiber of your being.

Having a mini-man?  A hybrid no less?  I get your point, but you can't compare those things (some of which society created demand for rather than biology) to wanting to reproduce with as many parters as possible.

And look, most people *want* to believe they can commit to monogamy, because that's the current societal template, and it has been so for some time.  That's the model we have for how to live life, but as the insane divorce and infidelity rates show, it's a model that may not be as relevant as we all hope and want it to be.

Cenk's best point is that most people have never really been tempted, and haven't had the opportunity to get something they really wanted with little fear of being caught

To that point, I can't recommend it enough, everyone should read Mark Twain's short story, The Man That Corrupted Hadleyburg.

But I generally only hear this "overpowering genetic urge" argument made by men FOR men.

Usually the common assumption is that women don't feel this so there is less forgiveness if a woman does sleep around on her husband.

I really think this argument is a cop out for men.  "It's wrong yeah, buuuuuuuuuuuuuut........... ...."

We all have urges.  Myself I believe men are able to convince themselves that it's ok to cheat because men lack the empathy to FEEL how bad it will hurt their spouse.  What they FEEL is their need.

Myself I believe that if you commit to the marriage, you don't cheat anymore than you would steal, rob, or vandalize.  If you want something else, end the relationship you are in first.  Or don't commit in the first place.

for women to cheat to, but in different ways for different reasons.

Heleon Fisher PhD explained this well in her book, Anatomy Of Love (may be a bit dated now though).
