Cenk, gavel too soon?

Google Technorati del.icio.us digg reddit
As someone who fears a Hillary candidacy, I was relieved to hear Cenk “bang the gavel” on Clinton.  As one who has not “done the math,” I take him at his word on the count, although it is more optimistic than ones I have heard on CNN and MSNBC.  But hey, who the fuck are those networks compared to TYT?

All ass licking aside, I was encouraged to hear that the math was insurmountable for Hillary.  The percentages she will have to win by now, after Mississippi, would be 20 points or more in every state, plus Florida and Michigan, to make it close in pledged delegates.  Because after all, the super delegates won’t go against the will of the people.  No way!  I mean, that would tear the party in half.  They couldn’t be that stupid or self-destructive, and hand a victory to a Republican…

Oh wait, we’re talking about the Democratic party, aren’t we.  Shit.

The Democratic Party, who hasn’t won a legislative victory over this President and his band of Republican thugs in the Senate (okay, give ‘em minimum wage), and who cower, buckle and TOTALLY cave in to the worst president in our history, when 70% of the American people are in sympathy with their position, AND when they have the majority.  This fucking party of pussies who waver at every fight that needs fighting.  These super delegates are going to stand up to a ruthless Clinton?

Don’t get your hopes up.  I think one reason that Hillary and her campaign are acting so much like Karl Rove’s White House is because they know they will be able to bully Democrats if they do.  They have seen it work, and they are smart enough, desperate enough and power-addicted enough to go there.  They already are there with Obama, and it is working to a degree.  They are working to make him unelectable when compared to McCain, and hoping this will change super delegates minds.  And I can see them falling for it.

Democratic Party leaders can do the math too.  If super delegates were set on following the will of the People, and they weren’t spineless, they would have intervened by now.  McCain is going on two weeks of a free ride, while Hillary does his job for him.  He gets to save his money, while she spends it on his behalf.  Democratic party leaders know this, and have had time to talk to Hillary privately.  It should be in the open by now – the statement that “party comes first, go home Hillary.”  But we haven’t heard shit.  The Democratic Party appears content to let Hillary split the party, make Obama unelectable, and then cower to the bully at the convention.

And then lose anyway in November.

And yes, this is the process that has been set up.  You can argue that in fairness, if Obama can’t get 2000+ pledged delegates before August, that it should go to the convention and the super delegates.  But that plan fucks us all, and we know it does.  To let Hillary smear Obama until super delegates fear he couldn’t be elected Chicago’s dog catcher, to have Obama supporters so pissed at Hillary that they would rather vote for Dick Cheney’s evil twin than her, and to have let McCain coast through the summer, and pound a hated Clinton in the fall, and win the Presidency on an “Iraq for 100 years” ticket – man, it could be happening now.

Way to go Dems.  God Dam It.

The fork said it all. She's done. Why should Cenk wait for doofuses like Charlie Gibson or Wolf Blitzer to finally reach that conclusion? They are usually not very quick on these things. We are in a war in Iraq, as I recall, and who could have seen THAT coming? Certainly not the national media reporters...

I say walk on, Cenk! Keep pounding that gavel. You're not as minor a force as you might think.

We need Barack's cousin to get a job at Fox News and call the race for Obama, then they'd all fall in line.  Just make sure it's not his cousin Cheney.

Intrade hasn't been the most reliable thing this election cycle, but for lack of a better place to look at odds, They have Obama with a 75% and Hillary with a 25%.

I imagine those 25% must be betting Hillary for some reason and not just throwing their money away for fun.

And always take a towel with you -- that's very important.  But there's always a way out.  It might seem at times like a miraculous escape from the jaws of death when you're snatched just in time before the universe ends, but it's not a miracle.

It's what happens.

The distinguising feature of the Democratic Party is concern for the well-being of others.  Sure, that concern manifests itself in many different forms, and those concerns often compete for attention and resources.  That competition often leads to very heated arguments.  But that love of country for the well-being of our country is what has kept the Democratic Party together through many radical changes in the Republican Party.  Republican problems are always brought on by their basic immorality.  Democratic problems are always brought on because they want to do good.

Here's a good example:  The Republican Party has registered a bunch of domain names in order to prepare for the election.  Some of them are

Cannotrustclinton.com
baracknotready.com
hillaryiswrong.com
barackiswrong.com

And dozens more.  You get the idea.

The Democratic Party hasn't registered any names related to McCain.

Some people of questionable moral vision are incapable of understanding why Republican campaign tactics are unethical. They are sure to say that the reason Democrats don't own mccainisbad.com&nb sp;is because they are weak.  I say it's because Democrats are honorable people who don't like to fight dirty (Hillary is an exception).

I think that's worth respecting.  But I will agree that Democrats must be more assertive, even if they don't follow Republicans' immoral examples.  Eventually, good always triumphs over evil.  All we have to do is our best.  There will be setbacks, but that's Life.  And when there are setbacks,

DON'T PANIC!

You've still got your towel.

LOL

Great post overall... but i especially loved the emphasis on the all-too-important remi nder to always bring a towel!

P.S.- I'm so blazed right now.

The DNC set up this fiasco of caucuses, primaries and super delegates decades ago. It needs to be fixed.

Another will of the people arguement, great!

All the people haven't even voted yet! So what is the will of the people?

The system, as it is designed, is not necessarily reflective of the will of the people

Again I ask: If Clinton wins the popular vote and Obama wins the delegate vote, who should be the nominee?

by LORD FOUL on 03/13/2008 09:52:32 AM EST

The rules say that the winner is the one with the most delegates.  Is that really a question?

Maybe the system has to change.  I'd like to see a primary election held on one day for all states about a month before the election, with another one held a week later between the top two vote getters in each party if no one gets a majority.  I'm sick of this idea that we need New Hampshire and Iowa and whoever else has a big ego to "vet" the candidates for us.  I want fifty-state campaigns every time.  In the Presidential race, I want states to become irrelevant.

But what we've got now is pretty specific and determinitive.  If you want a different system, start working to change the rules for next time.  If you've got a good system, maybe I'll support your ideas.  But for this election season, your complaints are coming a little late, wouldn't you agree?

I agree we can't change the current screwed up system.

I think we can agree to a simple system

Split the country into 5 regions. Pick 1 state from each region and have a primary of 5 states each week for 10 weeks. or you can do 5 states every 2 weeks. No caucuses, no weighted districts, no super delegates and no allowing of "outsiders" to vote in our nomination process.

Simple easy and cost effective.

I agree we can't change the system but "gdoud" argued that the super delegates should follow the will of the people and force Clinton out now.

I am only trying to point out that A) the system doesn't truely reflect the will of the people and B) the will of the people has not yet been decided.

Both candidates are going to be short of the delegates needed to win the nomination. The super delegates are going to decide this. The rules indicate that the super delegates can vote for whoever they want. Numerous Obama supporters state that the super delegates should follow the will of the people.

What is the will of the people? how should it be determined?

Meet Obama's insane pasteur.

But it's not worth debating.  Lets talk more about Louis Pasteur.

idk I can't tell if Hagee or Obama's pastor is crazier. Obama's seems more anti-American at a minimum but he's also crazier.

"Obama's pastor hates his country and white people."
Oh, you mean this guy?

Acroso, you are bashing and smearing Obama's spiritual leader.

Everyone knows that Barack is not a Muslim. He's a Christian, and this is the path of Christianity he has chosen to follow.

Oh, by the way Acroso. Do you remember Democrats laughing at the religious faith of Mitt Romney? Are we supposed to just be quiet about this crazy shiite?

You think Republicans were mean to Dukakis, Gore, Kerry, Mondale, McGovern? Oh my goodness gracious sakes alive!!! Hubble? Lord Foul? bobo? Tell these fools what's comin' down the tracks!

The resident right-wing neo-con conspiracy theorist on another board I visit just started ranting about Obama's pastor.  I knew right away the loopnuts rightie blogosphere must have started in on him.  Seeing acroso spewing the same talking points over here on the same day confirms it.  You guys are like poster children for Pavlovian experiments.
