2009 Agenda for the House Judiciary Committee

I know it's still a big assumption, but let's pretend the electorate acts intelligent for a change and  the U.S.  House gets a big fat Dem majority in November. What would you like the House Judiciary Committee to tackle next year?

Of course, there are the anti-trust, wiretapping, civil liberty, habeas corpus, Dept of Justice politicization issues, and many other constitutional injuries that must be addressed right away. But I'll tell you what's also high on my list...Jeff Gannon's White House "press" passes and the security breach they posed. This has still not been resolved as far as I know since the Repubs shot down the committee's attempts to get records in 2005, and I just can't let it go. Call me naive, but I have a lingering feeling that this joker's activities in the White House, if they were ever investigated, could drive the loonies who have wrecked the Republican Party into hiding for a long, long time.

But my wishes aside, what would you have Rep. Conyers  look at in 2009?

Although it will be too late in 2009, they need to file several lawsuits so that the limits of executive priviledge can be defined once and for all.  We need to assure that the next time a criminal like Bush tries to use it to cover up his misdeeds it won't be available to him.

However, I wouldn't mind if they sued President Obama in the same vein.  I trust Obama to be an ethical President, but those limits must be established.  Bush will not be the last criminal that Republicans try to elect.

Not sure what you're saying here, Star. Who's suing? The committee can recommend legislation, and then the congress can pass it. But a suit has to come from a plaintiff challenging the constitutionality of the law. I agree there have to be some serious restrictions on the executive, considering what we've all just lived through (the lucky among us anyway). I trust Obama a whole lot more than the others, but if push came to shove, he might abuse his priveleges too.

Voting machines, election irregularites and partisan Federal prosecutions

Heartily agree, Lord. We're not there yet are we? Funny how we all keep drooling over poll numbers pretending there won't be election fraud come November.
