Wanna know the #1 reason to elect a Dem? SCOTUS!

Google Technorati del.icio.us digg reddit

Remember, even if we have a Democratic House, Senate, and Presidency, the Republican dogs will still be humping our legs through their reality challenged surrogates on the Supreme Court.

With 3, maybe 4, seats likely to come open in the next 4 to 8 years, it is IMPERITIVE that we get these moronic constitution deniers off the court.

Did you see the latest? If you live in Indiana, bend over and apply copious amounts of lubricant - here come the Supremes!

Split court could uphold Indiana's voter ID law

The Supreme Court appeared poised Wednesday to uphold a stringent voter-identification law that Indiana officials say prevents fraud and Democratic challengers say infringes on the right to vote.

More broadly, Chief Justice John Roberts and other justices suggested that the court might erect new hurdles for political parties or civil rights groups challenging voting regulations. Justices appeared to want such groups to produce individuals who were burdened in specific instances, rather than mounting sweeping challenges to potentially discriminatory laws.

A ruling on Indiana's photo ID requirement, expected by summer, could affect voter regulations nationwide in the November presidential election.

Sure. The old "end around" play. Civil rights groups can't "produce individuals who were burdened in specific instances" until after the fact - and then it's too late. Also, whatever case is brought can languish in the system for years before the court even gets around to deciding whether they will even look at it.

To hell with Denmark - something is exceedingly rotten right here. The American Dream has turned into a naked-in-school nightmare.

There is no constitutional limitation in the number of Supreme Court Justices.  In fact, Congress can vote to have more than 9.  When the US began, we had 5 Justices, then the number went up to 6, in 1795, around 1870 there were for a few months 10.  I would like to see the Republican policies, which are destroying our nation reversed.  Unfortunately, many Democrats vote like Republicans, probably because they are Millionaires also.  Also, because of the Nature of our Government, compromise happens often.  I am not happy with the way our government works.  I would like to see a third Constitutional Convention, i.e. David Sabato, Towards a More Perfect Constitution, nonfict.

Some of you have seen this already, but it's worth watching and passing on to any *reasonable* person (including republicans who aren't insane).

Does anyone really want more conservative justices after watching this?

congressional republicans are like the maneater that has tasted human blood and gone crazy.

every single, halfway qualified (i mean that in terms of legal experience and depth/breadth of opinion, and not mere allegiance to any liberal litmus-test positions on various issues) nominee from a democratic president will be relentlessly (and if harry reid has his way, silently) filibustered by republicans.

even if more than 60 warm-bodies in the 2008 senate have a "d" next to their name, enough will cross over the aisle in the name of bipartisanship to obligingly support the republicans.

if i were prone to betting, i would wager good money that the republicans would rather see the strength of the scotus decline in number rather than allow a reasonably young, reasonably qualified, reasonable sane justice to be appointed by a democrat.

Tim, this is an interesting topic, but we already beat it to death in a previous thread. Feel free to take issue with any points in the old thread.
