as we keep the post game show. Being on AirAm is great but does it not make the TYT show that we know and love a shadow of itself? Will Cenk continue to be Cenk? If so, how long will the show last? Being on terrestrial radio does tend to put the things that you say on lockdown. Just ask Randi Rhodes, who by the way I think should absolutely, positively appear on TYT ASAP. That would be a gutsy thing to do. You guys are blazing a trail with something new and that is where your main focus should be. Go on AirAm if you must, but be aware that terrestrial radio is on the way out the door.

we need to organize an effort to get them on Satellite (more freedom, and now, more listeners with the merger) and eventually, television.

Some daring cable channel like Showtime should take TYT. I mean, if HBO has Bill Maher (who can be "offensive"), why not TYT?

I agree with mijoh.  How will it change the show?  Terrestrial radio is governered by the FCC, so you cant use any bad language.  Controversial subjects are not discussed because the Right will attack your sponsors if they dont like what what you say.  Satellite would be the place ofr TYT but on the Censored channels.   But unfortunately with the 2 providers merging they will probably cut programming their too.
By the look of the message board at AAR they are going to lose quite a few members and listeners over Randi.
One other thing TYT had some problem with AAR in the past, but Cenks not talking and i dont expect him too.
I would say AAR will become the Clinton Support Network pretty soon.  AAR only has Maddow left on daytime, she may end up on MSNBC.  Seder is still there on Sunday, I dont know why.  He is far better than anyone else on there.  The rest are somewhat stale or completely intolerable.

by jdenham on 04/11/2008 11:23:06 AM EST

by leaving out Thom Hartmann.

Not only is he the most well informed host they have, but he gives a historical perspective and amazing context to current events.

I'm willing to forgive you, but don't let it happen again. ;)

PS---Sam Seder is great.

Needs to write more books and work at some thinktank or be appointed to high office when a Democrat wins.

Radio broadcasting - no - Hes sssooo boring! Hes too damn smart for our own good!!!

I wish we could put Thom Hartmann's brain and thoughts into Randi Rhodes Personaltiy... Thats good radio, any way you slice it!!!

Anyway... TYT should go to Nova M, if they need to go anywhere - they have a much more Liberal slant based on Malloy and now Rhodes - They are based here in Phoenix, and they seem to promote progressive ideas well. Here in Phoenix, they carry Maddow and Hartman too - they could easily replace Bill Press with the Turks...

I think TYT is doing fine right where they are at - Im noticing a lot more users and visitors during the showtimes... Air America wouldnt have Cenk back anyway due to his Obamagasms - why do you think Randi is gone? She wouldnt toe the Clinton line for the Green brothers...

Thanks

:)

I totally agree that Hartmann is dry. He's really information dense, and listening to his show is like auditing university level courses on history, politics and economics (not THAT dry or complex, but still).

That's why you mix it up and listen to TYT in the morning and then Hartmann in the afternoon.  Too much Hartmann is draining, but in the right doses, he's awesome.

As for NovaM, maybe, but what about the free trade/Reagan/Bush Sr stuff?  That might not go over as well with that audience.

I think Cenk and his love for Obama would fit in well with Nova M - I haven't heard a lot of the old Republican Cenk lately - hes been drowned out by Obamagasms and such... Anyway, It would bring the show much more exposure, if that is what they want... I have written Nova M here in Phoenix a letter asking them to listen to TYT and consider them if thats an option...

Anyway, I think the Malloy and Rhodes crowd (not that they are all the same mind you) would enjoy some friendly banter in Cenk ever started praising the 80s again - its good to have open discussion, not brainwashing and forcefeeding of talking points - we'll leave that to the Republicans!!!

Anyway, i think TYT is a great show (even with the above mentioned Obamagasms) I am ready for this election cycle to pass so Cenk can return to his normal crotchity self... We will have plenty to Bitch about once the clean up of the last 8 years begins!!!

:)

With the XM-Sirius merger, there is now only one game in town.

These people have lucrative contracts on satellite radio: Oprah, Howard Stern, Bob Dylan, (and Imus also?)

I don't listen to satellite for music. I can do better on my mp3 and CD players.

What I want is good political talk radio from both sides of the spectrum.

These people need a contract with Sirius-XM: Cenk & Ben, Sam Sedar, Jeannine Garafolo, Mike Malloy.

"Ken will link to this forever."

I will link to your post forever. It proves that you refuse to agree with me, even when you know that I'm correct on an issue. Your post exposes you for the phony that you are.

Blow me.

I could link to multiple threads where myself or others kicked your Limbaugh licking ass.

Move on man, because multiple Republican congressman threw there political careers away covering Bush's ass. My own congressman is retiring and is going to guarantee a new Democrat seat in the house.

Need I link again (and I do read what I link to).

How can Ken be wrong about everything but be so right about talk radio.

Amazing.

I'll let you in on a little secret.

You're only 50% as informed as I am because you only read and listen to information from the left side of the political spectrum. If you broaden your perspective, you'll be a much more formidable opponent.

by KenTX on 04/12/2008 02:42:07 AM EST

[ Parent ]

I'll let you in on something everbody else knows.

You are 2% as informed as most of us other bloggers because you think listening to talk shows (albeit on both sides) somehow informs you of anything but spin, propoganda and (in the case of the right) outright lies.

Listening to Rush Limbaugh does not teach you a goddamn thing except what Rush Limbaugh pulled out of his oversized, hillbilly heroin, pre-teen Latin prostitute diddled ass that day.  It does not "inform" you or broaden your persepective.

Researching stories and diggin for the truth in data and actual reporting informs you.

Wanna put up a "most informed TYT blogger poll?"

I probably won't win, but I can gauran-goddamn-tee you won't even if you do turn out your sock puppet army.

So researching stories and providing links with data and historical perspective is a good idea? OK. I'll try it sometime.

The point is to stop bragging about how you are so smart because you listen to talk radio, regardless of the slant of the hosts.  It impresses no one.

It's not that I simply listen to liberal talk radio.

I also monitor and study left wing blogs like HuffPo, MediaMatters, Democrat Underground.

I read far left publications like The New Republic, The Nation, and the New York Times.

I watch left wing moonbats such as Keith Obermann and Bill Moyers and Dan Rather.

I understand liberals and what they want to do to America.

All of your information comes from the left. You only understand 50% of the equation.

are you so far right on the war and the economy (I have no idea what you think about social issues come to think of it)?

Do you listen to these shows with the volume down and read Huffington Post with your eyes closed?  If you do, it makes sense.

And for the record, I *do* think there's a lot of merit to exposing yourself to differing viewpoints. Granted, someone like Limbaugh or Savage doesn't have much to offer, but someone like George Will is much more reasonable relatively speaking (but still very conservative).

I guess I did  forget Hartmann, but I consider him a contributor to AAR.  I maybe wrong but I thought he was part of a different radio syndicate and was just supplying his show to AAR.  I usually podcast Hartmann from his site so I stand corrected.

I didn't think Randi would quit AAR without having plans to go elsewhere. Her friends and NovaM Radio are thrilled have her join them. She probably won't lose many affiliates since she owns her show, not AAR.

RANDI RHODES JOINS NOVA M RADIO

Guess the AAR Hillary station couldn't take someone who doesn't agree with them. Too bad they censored her. She wasn't on air. And the  right wing tools like Rush, Savage, O'Reilly, Hannity, Bortz, et al, say worse things every day.

TYT can't be as free and outspoken on terrestrial radio, so it would be difficult for them to move into that slot, unless they do their own self-censorship. I really wonder how "liberal" or "progressive" the management at AAR is compared to how they think of themselves. They've become the parody of the right wing invention, "politically correct". Politically correct is just another way of saying "we're cowards--to afraid to say what we think". And that's just the way their opponents like it.

by zenie on 04/11/2008 12:03:47 PM EST

I don't post to much on this stuff but it seems to me where AAR goes now will tell us a lot.  Clearly they have run away from progressivism like their heair is on fire and towards more traditional Blue Dog Democrats.  That is fine, I am just not interested.  Rachel and Sam are all I listen to.  If they replace Randi (who I didn't care for) with a progressive I might be interested again (Sam and the Turks are the obvious choice for me).  If they go with someone more "traditional" then I guess I will listen unitl Rachel ascends to MSNBC.  She deserves it.

It seems to me Mr. Green is either not interested in a progressive audience or is unaware of the distinction.  On XM the Turks were replaced by Bill Press for God sakes.

We will know shortly.

A loser is fired from a loser radio network. The only way this could have been better is if they allowed me to walk her to the door. I am so happy that I have tears in my eyes!

Dan Rather, Don Imus, Randi Rhodes, Katie Couric, Eason Jordan. I love it when liberal media people lose their jobs and shuffle off into obscurity. They never learn, and they never survive.

AAR wanted to get rid of her and are happy she is gone according to the same article or one thats on Huff Po as well. Richard Beltzer is going to be  on monday  that should be interesting.

Of course TYT should be back on AAR. Cenk knows how to get his strong message across without using unacceptable language. TYT needs to reach as many ears as possible, especially between now and Nov 4th.

by droth33 on 04/11/2008 12:36:15 PM EST

it wouldn't just be language that would be censored (voluntarily/involuntarily) , it would also be certain expressed views and topics.

I don't know what goes on behind the scenes though, I'm just speculating.

What's missing from these discussion of who should be on what lineup is that the decisions have very little to do with the factors mentioned in these posts, like which are the better programs, who delivers the best message, which programs go well together, etc.  It's about a bunch of not-quite-in-touch executives deciding who should be in the lineup based on perceptions of credibility, reputation, sales power, name recognition and contacts.  (..now I will self censor a comment I want to make...)

I listen to Rush Limbaugh now and then.  It is 99% crap, but I think there is a validity in listening to him.  If I got a few weeks or months of just listening to Cenk and liberal stuff, then I listen to Rush, it's not that I "learn" anything, it's that I say to myself, "yea, the conservatives or Republicans or Bush voters whatever you want to call them have a perception and it's different than that of TYT fans and there is something to it."  Rush Limbaugh and Bush are not the right answer for the people who have this perspective, but all to often the Democrats fail to address it. I know I am being totally vague here and lack all specificity. Please don't ask me for an example.

How the hell does KenTX listen to all that talk radio, write all these posts, read all these blogs, and still earn a living with a job. And I assume he has a social or a personal life, but I may be wrong about that.

Anyway, thank you for all the kind things you guys have thought and said about The Young Turks.

I spend a lot of time in cars and hotels, where I'm able to multi-task and do all of these things at the same time. I really do blog while driving.
