Obama - Clark '08

Google Technorati del.icio.us digg reddit
Clark was mentioned as a possible Veep choice for Obama on meet the press this morning.

I don't know about you all but I think that's a dream ticket. I know Clark has endorsed Hillary, and I know Jr. endorses Hillary, but I've always sort of assumed that this was because his dad was a potential cabinet member in her administration.

I didn't understand Wes Clark Jr's attraction to Hillary until he and Cenk discussed the Cyril story. But c'mon c'mon c'mon. Obama is no Cyril. If that makes you more comfortable with your support of the pro-credit card bill, flag-burning amendment sponsoring, champion of political cavery, Hillary, fine.

I can't imagine that Wes Clark Sr would endorse Hillary's slimy campaign tactics, but who knows. He did pile on when Hillary said that Obama's not ready. Actually, I don't really care. I think he would make a fantastic veep, and future president. Unlike Hillary though, he wouldn't be a trojan horse in an Obama administration. He would represent a much needed olive branch to the DLC in the wake of Hillary's inevitable defeat.

That's not anywhere near the top reason to put him on the ticket, though.

I think he would fit with the campaign's message very well, and undercut some of the arguments about experience. Unlike Hillary, he's not afraid of his shadow.

I think he would be a great choice myself, but I thought Wes Jr. said his dad was supporting Hillary.  Maybe he has kept his options open though, anyone know?

officially endorsed Hillary (I mentioned in the original post).

I don't think he's keeping his options open, but if Barack finally officially gets the nomination are his options open?

Of coooooooourse!!!!

he's supporting Hillary certainly doesn't mean he won't support whoever the D candidate is.

I like Gen Wesley Clark but I'd like to see Senator Obama pick someone other than a military person and Clinton loyalist as a running mate.

Senator Feingold would be my first choice then Gov. Howard Dean, Senator Dodd, Gov. Richardson, and so on.

Thumbs up - way up!  The only hesitancy I have is looking forward to 2016 when Obama has to pass his crown to the next Democratic president.  I'm not saying the General wouldn't be qualified to run for president in 2016, but he'll be a McCain dinosaur by then.  As is the case with Cheney, Clark wouldn't necessarily have to be the nominee, however, the VP position offers the great opportunity to show the  nation that your qualified as well as the advantages of name recognition and incumbency.

Good job on the postgame show man!  SF girls are hotter than LA girls, you were 100% right, and glad you stood up for them.

General Clark will assume a position like Defense Secretary or even Secretary of State maybe, But I dont see him entering on the ticket - hes too raw and non political - remember he is military and they have their own system and hierachies - The last general we had in high office was Eisenhower...

Now as to who the VP could be, there are several possibilities - A Female Governor from AZ, WA or KS, Senator Bayh, Biden or Edwards - or even Judas Richardson himself -

Wouldn't that be a ticket? - Jesus and Judas - The Savior and the Betrayer... The complications and political cartoon possibilities are endless....

Thanks as always for your postings...

Richardson is as dumb as a rock and a lousy speaker, but he would be great for the Dems Identity politics they use.

You say it won't be Richardson.

I say it might be Richardson.

No need for insults.

Not that impressed with him even though I really wanted to like him.

Your Dad is not doing so well in the thread poll, but he might be chosen by Obama if he can help shore up his abysmal weakness on all things related to national security. In fact, now that I think about it, there is probably nobody else in the Democrat Party who could even come close to helping Obama overcome this formidable hurdle.

Thank God we have John "turns out I don't know shit about the Middle East or terrorism and consistently vote against our troops" McCain in your party to help Obama out.

Still think Jim Webb of VA would be the better choice for VP if Obama's looking for someone with military credentials. The Dems need Virginia in November, and could use some support from southern white males. Webb has the credentials and isn't afraid to speak his mind and stand up for his principles. He is gung ho on veteran's issues, as well. Also, I think he'd fit the need of voters to know the VP is strong enough to take over if the president is incapacitated or dies. I wouldn't mind seeing Clark as Secy of Defense, 'though.

He will be McCain's running mate.

Because they agree on what issues exactly?

Gonna be kind of awkard for Grandpa Death to continue the Wargasm Acopoalypse Tour next to a far more credible VP candidate who is against the war.

This is a great example of the tax cut at any cost mentality.  The Repubs would rather run two candidates they don't even remotely agree with and who don't agree with each other than stand for some actual principles as long as they think they can weasel a tax cut.

Viva la Tax Cut!

I'm still concerned about his vote for telecom immunity though. But sure, he's got a pair. He'd win in a landslide in 2016.

I think its unlikely. But you never know what the good senators are saying to each other in the cloakroom.

Agree hazmat. If Obama is going to live up to his claim of reaching across, this wouldn't be too far of a reach in reality, but would certainly give that appearance to those who care about pairs and such.

2016...Yikes, I'm too old to think that far ahead...2008's already worn out my tired old rear.

It needs to be someone who could realsitically become president AND carry on Obama's work in the event that something happens to him. I think that there is at least a 50-50 chance that someone takes a shot at Obama (literally) sometime during his presidency. There are a lot of survivialist racist crazies out there who'll be thinking "now's the time to start the race war" or some such nonsense or Obama will really start sticking it to the rich and powerful status quo guys like multi-nationals, banks, oil companies and someone will want him dead. I know this sounds like something out of that 24 show, but Obama seems a lot like the guys who ended up with bullets in their heads i.e. the Kennedys and MLK. Think about it.

by mijoh on 04/14/2008 06:58:03 PM EST

maybe russ feingold? Much as I think Edwards comes off a bit phony, I think his basic intentions are consistent with an Obama presidency. And the veep isn't much of a factor in the election anyhow, I don't care what people say. So Edwards might do. people say he would turn it down though.
