As Hillary started to go after the bitter remarks AGAIN today, she recieved groans from the crowd.  This was an assembly of working class people.

They claim it was Obama supporters, if that is the case there must be a lot of blue collar Obama supporters in Pennsylvania.

Either:
1.  Her own supporters are tired of this angle already and/or ARE NOT BUYING IT.

Or,

2.  People in Pennsylvania working in manufacturing heavily support Obama, EVEN after his "elitist" comments.

Either way, this "gaffe" has no legs.

IMO, it's too late in the primary for this gaffe to effect the utlimate outcome of the race against Hillary, although I think it may prolong it.

But, where these remarks are going to come back to really bite BO will be in the General, when the GOP spin machine cranks up a sh** storm and you will hear it thousands and thousands of times, with Rev. Wright's sermon playing back up drums.  This is BO's "Dukakis in the tank picture," Kerry's "I voted for it the first time...." moment. This gaffe may be even worse, because it plays right into every GOP hacks stereotype of the elitest leeeberal academic class who are portrayed as contemptuos of middle class american values. This plays right into the GOP's "Reagan Democrat" strategy.

Now you may say, and I would agree with you, that that is not the real Barack, that that is not what he is all about, that he comes from a dissadvantiged background, he is a self-made man, that he worked with the poor etc. But after hearing BO's remark, that is only a truth that can be arrived at with a fair amount of explaination and willingness too think about it on a voters part.  They are not famous for that. Barack cannot go on explaining himself on this remark indefinately. That will look weak. He will have to draw the line soon.

The damage is done.  Rove has his sound bite and he will pound it again and again for months. BO's remark, compared to Kerry's, is longer and more detailed, and can piss off a number of groups. It appeared to be the result of some forethought. Rove will take this image of a disconnected, haughty, contemptuous, out of touch academic and spin a web of half truths around it to make it the "conventional wisdom" you will hear the talking meat on CNN regurgitate again & again.

This is really bad news for progressives everywhere.

I am so sick about hearing about what will be Obama's "tank picture."  Wait a couple of weeks and lets see where we are at.  According to you clowns Obama has a whole album full of tank pictures to go along with his primary victory, 10x the money of McCain and odds on chance to be the next president.  Relax.

If you can't do it on your own here are three things to remember.

1. "We'll stay for 100 years"

2. "There's gonna be more wars, my friends."

3. "Bomb-bomb-bomb bomb-bomb Iran"

How come I never hear anyone here talking about McCain's "tank picture".

You know why McCain's second rich girl ex-cheerleader wife who he started dating while he was married to his first wife, you know the one McCain likes to call a cunt in front of other men.  You know she always has to be on top?

Cause McCain can only fuck up.

I think McCain's got some huge negatives.  They just haven't been exploited yet, but they will be.

The good news is, there are more stories slowly coming out about how McCain really isn't the moderate maverick the press paints him to be.

Obviously Cenk has been beating this drum for a while, and at some point we can only hope the press is forced to take notice.

Granted, they likely won't do a 180 (nor should they go THAT far), but I'd like to think McCain's f*ng BBQ's and milk and cookies would lose some of their influence as we get closer to the general election, IF we keep up the pressure.

Every big event has breakout media stars and elections as much as any.  These media types know this.  They live for it.

And do you know how you become a breakout media star?  Good solid reporting on the shit no one else is talking about.

If you are a run of the mill reporter at a major news outlet McCain is just sitting there waiting to make your career.  Go for it.  You'll be so damn rich when you have your own show you can buy all the bar-b-q you can stand.

because if Hillary wins the nomination the GOP will wave the right flag and cower.

Yep, there are NO Clinton scandals out there.  In fact, Sean Hannity DIDN'T use most of his Sunday show every week to attack Hillary back when she was the likely nominee.

Saying we should nominate Hillary because Pubs will attack Obama is like saying someone should move to DC or Gary, IN to get away from the crime in Dallas.

Palin in 2012? Bitch, please! No, really, please run in 2012, bitch. ;)

These Hillary people have lost all connection to reality.  They are like a milder form of Republican.

Uh, the crime rate in DC used to be high 30 years ago, but, except for all those temporary fed and elected workers who pretend to know the place--NOT--DC is a really fine town. We just like to make up scary stories to get them on edge to we can have the good parts to ourselves.

R.S., you mentioned Hillary supporters suggesting it was Obama supporters doing the boos and jeers.

Has anyone bothered to ask WHY there would be that many Obama supporters at a Hillary rally? Utter nonsense. Those were HER supporters bringing the ruler down on her knuckles, no one else's.

Winsor's comments may be well intended but they, too, are utter nonsense. To paraphrase Twain, "The rumors of this candidacy's demise have been wildly exaggerated." It will take more than a candidate uttering the TRUTH to bring down a campaign.

Bitter, angry, disillusioned, disenfranchised - these are all VALID terms for the way people are feeling. Why should ANY of these terms come under fire?

The road to the White House is paved, not covered with egg shells. There is no need to tread softly or quietly. I urge Obama to get even MORE fiery in his rhetoric. It's the only way for him to show how devastating this administration has been to America and why a Republican or a Republican-lite candidate is no person to be behind the desk in the Oval Office next February.

Imagine when Obama starts giving us straight talk about John McCain.

My God, the cons are going to go apeshit then.

his "bitter comments".  So maybe most people realize this whole thing is overblown.

Although I will say the awful mainstream media is doing their best (that amazing panel on CNN aside) to make this story as big and damaging as possible.

F*ng MSNBC running the screen text "Is Obama Elitist" for example.  Nice way to frame the issue assholes.

by ihavenobias on 04/14/2008 04:48:11 PM EST

the more the public will tune them out.  I think 70 % of Americans have decided that the Republicans are idiots just like GWB and will be voting a Democrat into office no matter the Candidate.   I think the only ones who are pushing this fake outrage is the Republicans and the DLC hoping to use their tired old tactics again.  In a week it will be old news.  Who cares not me.

by jdenham on 04/14/2008 05:24:47 PM EST

More mudslinging since we're only a week away from the voting.  Hillary was relatively well-behaved for the past few weeks, but I guess the media was doing just fine attacking Obama on their own.  She's got a disgusting TV ad that repeats his "gaffe" and has people commenting on how great they feel about being religious in Pennsylvania.

I love the lengths Hillary will go to win, including taking a shot of Crown and chasing it with a beer...that should help in the binge-drinking college student vote that she's been after.  Annie Oakley on the attack!
