W has had two decent proposals in his entire presidency. One was to go to Mars. I'll admit I was skeptical about that one at first but hey!--once you blow a few hundred billion on Iraq a couple bil for Mars is a drop in the bucket right?. Totally worth it. The second was to simplify the tax code.
Its a shame he never got around to it. I seethe everytime I waste hours poring over instructions.
Software packages that you can buy save a lot of time, but they're expensive and in the end you still spend hours poring over instructions and interview questions. Why should I be paying a third party to help me translate the 1040 forms? And I just get irritated wasting my time reading questions like was I a salmon fisherman part time last year? Did I qualify if I was under 65 and blind? or did I have 2 qualifying dependants? Then you have to read an entire page of fine print to figure out what qualifying means? Am I an organic farmer with liens on my property totalling more than ...
Bush offered to try to simplify the tax code a couple years ago in his SOTU address, then we never heard from him again on the subject. This is one area that some liberals and conservatives can agree on. What happened? I guess I can't complain too much, since he probably would have screwed that up too.
p.s. I also wish he would have followed through on was his crusade against human-animal hybrids. It would have been entertaining at least.
