Obama's REAL Wright Problem

Obama's REAL problem isn't that he SECRETLY agrees with Rev. Wright.  It's that he was CAUGHT PANDERING to Wright, the same problem John McCain has pandering to John Hagee or Jerry Falwell.  Pandering to the Radical Religious LEFT is just as bad as pandering to the Radical Religious Right!

People on the Right want to castigate Obama for having a relationship with Jeremiah Wright and associate Wright's Loony Left views with Obama:  Guilt by Association politics.

It's a CLASSIC ROVIAN tactic: Take an opponent's STRENGTH and twist it into a WEAKNESS.  Obama's entire fucking political career has been about TOLERANCE and opening a dialog with people from every end of the political spectrum.  That's going to include the FRINGES, trying to understand the ANGER of the Fringe and try to promote understanding in order to work for the common good.

The Right wants to take Obama's tolerance of the seemingly INTOLERANT and morph that into a case that HE IS INTOLERANT! Just because he wants people to UNDERSTAND the Fringe and try to get them to TONE DOWN and make their case without ridiculous VITRIOL that serves no one.

Obama's REAL problem regarding Rev. Wright isn't that maybe he SECRETLY agrees with him and is a "secret Afro-Marxist" or "Islamo-Fascio-Communo -Nazo-Crat" or any other ridiculous category the Right Wing wants to dream up.  It's that he got CAUGHT PANDERING to the Radical Religious Left. 

Obama was running for the Illinois State Senate in a district where Rev. Wright was a POPULAR and influential leader.  Joining his church was an obvious way for Obama to get his ass ELECTED in that district.  So that Wright's BLIND FLOCK would see him as ONE OF THEM.

So he was willing to turn a BLIND EYE to the CRAP Wright was spewing from the pulpit.  Because that shit RESONATED with his CONSTITUENCY, the people who were going to VOTE for him or NOT.

Is Obama a super-secret Afro-Marxist, anti-American RADICAL who HATES the Flag?  His whole career says "NO!"  Right-Wing people who want to INSINUATE that Obama is SECRETLY some RADICAL are full of SHIT.

But PANDERING to Wright in order to gain political ADVANTAGE DOES speak to Obama's character. Because, if you pander to THIS GUY, WHO ELSE will you pander to???

That's the exact SAME questions we have about McCain.  He's willing to throw his convictions under the bus in order to make himself look like he's all jolly with the Religious Right.  And the stupid, shit-for-brains, Neo-Cons who have been WRONG at every turn, and have done their DAMNEST to DESTROY our nation over the last eight years.

unless I've misunderstood (quite possible). First, Obama's relationship with Wright is not like McCain's relationship with the Religious right. They're a different crowd and frankly Wright is benign. Everyone knows that, even Sean Hannity. (and Hannity works for Satan). Wright is a former marine. He's a product of the civil rights era. Does that give him a free pass? Damn straight. period. End of discussion.

He's says some crazy shit in the pulpit, and you're free to ignore him. Nobody actually believes the US gov't created aids, so

Barack is a black man in America, and Wright brought him to JC. Good for him, good for Wright. So what. In what respect has he "pandered" to this man as you state so matter-of-factly? What has he ever said to endorse Wright's view of white America? Yes? I'm waiting...

McCain. McCain is an episcopalian. But now that he's a republican candidate, he can't rim-job the fundies fast enough. That's a fact. Its as phony an act as has ever crossed the political stage in this country. I don't think there's anything more to say about it. I used to like McCain, but I've lost respect for him.

Second. You think McCain panders to Neocons? No.

They are his foreign policy team. Do the names John Bolton or Charles Krauthammer ring a bell? It is crucial that you understand this.

Sunsawed, I sense that I'm preaching to the choir. props. but there is no comparison between Obama and McCain. Don't concede that these are legitimate questions. McCain is a craven politician.

You need to start (like I did) by undermining the right's assumptions about Wright. Because they're not assumptions. They're LIES. And this isn't about Wright.

Excuse me but until you show me your Ultimate Arbitrator Card, I’m afraid that I’m going to have to call bullshit on giving Wright or anyone else who stands in front of people and claims to represent God a “free pass” just because they are products of anything.

I’m a product of the civil rights era. Admittedly I’m white, but I grew up in the segregated South and actually know people who were involved in burning the bus outside of Anniston, Alabama. Not that I harbor racial prejudice but if I did would that give me a “free pass”?

I’m also a former sailor. Is it only marines that get a pass or does any military service qualify?

Well yes we are free to ignore it but as Jim Jones, David Koresh, and an entire host of religious leaders have demonstrated over and over, pastors hold an enormous amount of influence over their congregants. Especially those that have charisma which Wright is purported to have in spades.

If no NOBODY believes the U.S. created Aids your saying that Wright is a liar?  He doesn’t believe what he says in the pulpit?

Then of course we have The Nation of Islam and what they profess.

In 1992 he told an Atlanta audience that the AIDS virus was “a direct consequence” of a covert policy of genocide against nonwhites, instituted by President Bush.

I could continue with examples of people who DO believe that the government invented Aids but ultimatly I suppose it depends of you definition of “nobody”.

Let's face it. Obama joined Rev. Wright's church because he was POPULAR within the South Chicago Black community Obama wanted to rum for office in.  He WANTED Wright's thunder in the pulpit to SERVE him politically with his chosen constituents.  And though he could distance himself from Wright when he said things that would offend the general populace.

What's the difference when McCain wants to nosy himself up to EXTREMESTS, when it SERVES him, yet throw them undeer the bus when they say things offensive to the vast majority?

You turn a 25 point lead into a 10 pt win and lose ground on the pace you need to win the nomination and you have momentum?

Sorry, Hillbots, obviously it could have been worse but Pennsylvania was a fatal blow to Hillary (if a dead woman walking can even receive a fatal blow).

Reality check: This morning, Hillary needed to get about 57% of all remaining delegates (including supers).  Now she needs around 62%.  AND she has blown her wad in PA, the last big state she had any chance of major movement in.  Easily the biggest state left is North Carolina.  Think she can get 62% there?

Hillary Clinton is much farther away from the nomination now than she was yesterday. 

I don't say this as an Obama guy, I say it as a math guy.  If you are going to tell me I am wrong, please explain how she is going to get the 439 delegates she is short.
