In reference to your speech today,

I cannot afford health care.

I cannot afford to send my kids to college.

I cannot afford gasoline.  In fact, I walk to work, regardless of weather.

Now that that's out of the way, let me say "It's over".

thanks for backing me up on a previous thread. I really appreciate it. You should edit this posting to include either a link to the text of the speech or a brief summary with maybe a key quote that makes your responses to the speech understandable. You're more likely to get some thoughtful (and not so thoughtful) comments that way.

My wife, who is a teletubby neophyte, was reading a teletubbies book to our babies the other day (don't ask me how it came into our posession) and when she finished it she looked up at me quizzically and said

"that was stupid".

When this story broke I was doing news on an Austin radio station.  When you read the news you are supposed to read it once first to get ready but, lets face it, its not that hard to read aloud and you get cocky.

When I read this story I laughed out loud (I was the anchor) and had to stop for probably 15 seconds to regain my composure.  15 seconds is a VERY long time in radio.

Only time that ever happened to me.  It was the 2:30 AM newscast  on a weekend and no one at the station ever said anything.  I have a couple friends say they heard it on their way home from drinking and what not but they couldn't blame me.

It was something like the people who are telling you its over can afford (she lists the things above), but I represent people like you who can't afford them.  Something like that, I know I got the wording wrong.
