A "Racialist" Breakdown to Maxim's Hot 100

When TYT went over Maxim’s top 100 hot women of 2008 last Friday, I was once again disappointed with this year’s crop. Don’t get me wrong, I love White women, but this list is just plain whack. To begin, the only Indian woman to make the list was Victoria Secret’s, Selita Ebanks, coming in at #63, not to mention a big zero on the Arab/Persian American women. In all fairness, American Pie’s, Shannon Elizabeth #29, does have a father who is part Syrian and Lebononse, but is this as good as it gets?
Moving on to the Black women, Ashanti and Garbrielle Union were the only ones to make the list who had both a Black father and mother, though five other Black/White women made the list. I guess according to Maxim’s standards if you happen to be a person of color, you better have some white in you if want to be a serious contender? The Latinos did a little better with seven finalists along with another five of mixed Latino/White heritage. For the record, I classified the two Spanish women (Penelope Cruz and Paz Vega) as Latinos along with the Puerto Ricans (Nadine Velazquez and Roselyn Sanchez), Dominican (Zoe Saldana) and Cuban (Eva Mendes). Now on to the Jewish women - Sarah Michell Gellar #5 and Mila Kunis #81. Ok, there were seven additional women who had one parent of Jewish decent, but I’ll save that for my big “Mixed Group” breakdown.
Also if you're offended by Maxim's standard of judging "hottness" by outward physical beauty, go check out feminist, Jessica Valenti's
Real Hot 100. Jessica's a hottie inside and out and word is she's coming to the Young Turks soon!
In breaking down these numbers, I can’t help put to feel like Dave Chappelle in that race draft skit. To mix things up before I get to more numbers, some interesting things I came across:
- Isla Fischer #61 converted to Judaism “in advance of her marriage to Sacha Baron Cohen”–you know Ali G/Borat!
- Sienna Miller’s (#27) mother use to be a secretary to David Bowie - that would be a bizarre job!
- Mila Kunis, aka that “seventies show” chick who’s going out with Macaulay Culkin, is heterochromatic due to “injections to treat glaucoma.” Basically, we know who on this list is lighting up
- Lastly I have notes that Paz Vega is super hot and Mandy Moore and Jessica Simpson are not. Sorry guys, you can’t argue with Excel notes.
So to finish this off, I thought I’d end with some more stats:
- California is the #1 birth state with 21% of the top 99 women being born there, followed by New York at 11% and Texas at 10%.
- The average age of these women is 27.
- If we broke the numbers down by rigid/simple race categories we have 75% White women (including women of Jewish decent), 12% Latino, 7% Black, 6% Asian, and a big whopping 0% Native Americans, though a couple women did have a small percentage of native blood.
- If we added the Mixed category, the numbers would be 66% white, 21% Mixed, 7% Latino, 2% Black, 2% Asian, 2% Jewish, and 1% Indian.
The Mixed Groups breakdown is as follows: 5% Mixed Latino/White, 5% Mixed Black/White, 3% Mixed Asian/White, 7% Mixed Jewish/White, and 1% Mixed Arab/White.
That’s it for now because I’m over crunching numbers and trying to figure what race/ethnicity I should classify someone into. I’ll let you make your own observations and I understand that beauty is supposedly in the eye of the beholder, but I find myself growing very tired by Maxim’s standards. Also, to be honest I just wasn’t all that impressed with this list and I know America can do better.
P.S. If you were wondering who the missing top 100 lady is, that would be the Pussycat Dolls.
