Webb GI bill passes Senate

Thats right, it passed. Final vote count 75 - 22.
Thats right, it passed. Final vote count 75 - 22. Good news for the troops and people who want to support them everywhere.
Now we all know this is going to steam roll through the house with a a veto proof majority.
What I found interesting is the ones who voted against it. Yup, it's the true Bush loyalists who are willing to throw their careers away supporting that fool. McCain was even smart enough not to show up. Oh, sorry. I heard McCain was too busy campaigning for the Republican presidential nomination or something important like that. Actually, the only one who surprised me was Lugar.
An interesting quote from the Politico article was this.
"Many uncertain Republicans stood in the well of the Senate, taking their time to make a decision. Virtually every GOP senator who is politically vulnerable this year voted for the domestic spending, including Sens. John Sununu of New Hampshire and Roger Wicker of Mississippi."
I guess these idiots are starting to figure out that backing Bush's wildly unpopular positions is a bad idea. Too late for some of them already I would say. However, it took every ounce of will these Republican pull toys had to not to play follow the leader one more time towards the end of the cliff.
Another interesting quote is this one.
"Republicans believe they can sustain the presidential veto if the measure is sent back to Congress."
Yea right. I can see the ads now. "Republican Senator (fill in the blank) voted against our veterans and American heroes when they needed them the most. Do Republican's really support the troops? Vote for (fill in the blank) because he will support the troops home and abroad."
Well, Bush is threatening to veto this one like he vetoed the farm bill. I wish President Dip Stick luck on that one.
