Now here's something you don't see everyday.  Shareholders in Exxon are trying to force by vote resolutions that would require Exxon to spend more time and money focusing on the effects of global warming and to do more research on alternative fuels.

The Rockefellers are backing the shareholders on this. It's not thought that the resolutions will win, after all, who really believes that greed will succumb to good sense among Exxon shareholders?  It does show that there is a portion of the public that's tired of the screw-the-environment maximize-profits-at-any-cos t philosphy that has permeated the thinking of many energy companies to date.

All in all I think it's a hopeful sign.

We did a similar thing at the last Occidental petroleum meeting. Trying to get them to clean up a mess they left behind in Peru. Villagers, fish suffering from oil drenched water.

Great movie to watch is The Corporation. You'll see that there is an increasing number of corporate heads seeing the light. Unfortunately the number is still way too low.

 Peace,

Everyone should see The Corporation.  It's amazing.

If there is enough of a critical mass of shareholders than maybe things will change, but lets not fool ourselves. Few shareholders would give up a dividend payment for the sake of a village or a rain-forest.

because eventually it will turn.  Eventually the board members will see that if the company wants to survive in the future they will have to change their focus.
