TYT Chatroom has horrible taste in movies?

It seems that many people in the TYT chatroom have  horrible taste in movies.

When I went in there today, people were begining a batting-session against PERFECTLY GOOD MOVIES. GuyInMilwaukee and Bias seem to think I Am Legend sucks, but Cloverfield is good.

That ranks a 7.0 on my What the F*** meter.

I Am Legend had an excellent plot, good CGI, much better acting, and was enjoyable. It's not the director's fault that he wanted New York to look like a jungle after only four years, the average bitter american would not know, or frankly, care about that.

However, Cloverfield was mediocore. It was enjoyable CGI, with random-as-shit camera bobbing, and a super-ultra-LOL monster that survived anything thrown at it. The 'duH' guy was stupid, carrying a camera around while monsters and army men were running around. Who would actually do that?

As well, many people in the chatroom claim that 'CGI is horrible'. They said that the Hulk seemed unrealistic, and that Lord of the Rings was horrible.

Sorry to break it to you, but as far as I know, NO ONE looks like hte Hulk, outside of Shwarshenegger. As well, unless you find a perfect golem guy to play the part, instead of playing as CGI, it's gonna be like that.

Want to argue? Bring it. Here, and now.

That was the worst characterization of my points ever! Ok, not really but still.

Seriously though, I never said I Am Legend Sucks. I give the movie a "B". Does a "B" suck in your book? I said the movie was really, really god ("A") until he runs into those 2 people, at which point it went downhill fast, along with a mediocre ending and if I'm being honest, mediocre CGI when seeing the "monsters" (or whatever) up close.

Also, the test rats displayed laughably bad CGI, you can NOT deny that. Watch that part again if you've forgotten. And they could've made the monsters (I use the term loosely obviously) much more realistic if they'd avoided CGI up close (the mouths were over the top, watch it again for reference) and stuck with make-up and costumes.

I also suggested that the new Hulk movie appears to have yet more bad CGI, which is sad because I assumed they'd have improved on the first Hulk and was looking forward to seeing Edward Norton in that role.  I added that Iron Man was excellent all around, including the CGI was wasn't overdone and cartoonish, unlike the Hulk.

Finally, while I don't think Cloverfield was perfect, I think it was a very entertaining movie that can't or shouldn't be judged if seen outside of the theater. If you try to watch it on a 25 inch TV with shitty speakers I don't blame you for saying it was mediocre at best.

But in the theater it was an exciting, enveloping experience...you really felt like you were there and it was very subtle by movie monster standards. Also, the no-name actors made it easier to suspend my disbelief and enjoy the story.

PS---X-Men II, while about 20 minutes or so too long, was far better than X-Men I.

X-Men II and Spider-Man II are the best (I haven't seen Iron Man but it is apparently as good or better.

See Iron Man while it's still in theaters. I had to drag Cheryl to see it at gun-point but she ended up loving it.

If you don't, you'll have no choice but to fly me down to Austin for the Netroots convention in late July so that we can grab a beer with Cenk at the after-party.

Cenk is coming to Austin in July?  Is this true?  Dave? Cenk?

And I WANT to see Iron Man, just hard to get out with three jobs and three kids.

We actually have planned to see it Sunday.

Soulless eyes, and unrealistically fluid human movements.

CGI on something like the Hulk is the only way to go, but the stuff I've seen looks shiny and bad.  The Golem on LOTR looked amazing, and it's completely because of the physical performance in the mocap of the actor playing him.  That's what sells it.

As far as things that were said in the chatroom, you said that you liked all six Star Wars movies.  That's really all I need to hear to know that your opinion on movies isn't valid.  ;)

Yeah, how can anyone like the first of the new (er I mean old, er, I mean new) Star Wars movies? I mean, Darth Mal (sp?) was cool, but otherwise it was terrible.

The second one had a few cool parts only, like that secret water based place visited by Obi Wan, and the last one was pretty good IMO, mostly because it had to be because it led up to A New Hope.

As for the Matrix, the first one was great, parts of the second one were very good (I loved the entire sequence from when they went to visit the Merovingian) and parts were very bad (that terrible rave dance scene in the underground human world?).  The last one? It was a waste of my time but I had to finish off the series.

The original is amazing.  I liked it so much more the second time I saw it.  Part two was actually worse the second time, and the third movie was amazingly boring both times.

I liked the third Star Wars movie (the newest one), but the other two new ones were terrible.  Undeniably terrible.  All of them were visually impressive, and featured a lot of those "that shit was cool" moments, but there needs to be a damn story in there somewhere.  Also, acting helps, and Hayden Christiansen is pretty close to the worst actor of all time.  Please keep in mind that Star Wars is one of the things that I'm super nerdy about, so this isn't just me being a hater.  They're just really really (really) bad movies.

Stop crying for a second, and let me explain the 'six thing'.

It was a fucking gapphe. You guys were whining over and over how 'CGI is so unreal', and you want something better. Episode I through III had CGI, that is undeniable. I know IV through VI had none. It was a damn gaphe in a laggy chatroom while listening to Cenk get steamed up about Hillary.

The point is that you thought the first two were good, or even watchable.

(you know "crying", "whining", etc.), I will say that I agree that *parts* of the second movie were very good IMO, Hayden's acting not included of course.

Although I've heard he's supposed to give a really good performance in some other movie totally unrelated to Star Wars.

The concept was great and fresh and the special effects were awesome at the time.

I expect a formal apology from you by tomorrow morning on TYT letterhead.

It's about how technology has taken over our lives and made them less real.  Broad?  Sure, but it's also 100% true.  Ted Kaczynski agrees, and he seems pretty on the ball.

That was what Star Wars was about.

It was stupid.  And the effects overran the plot and characters.  Star Wars didn't have that problem.

The first two Star Wars movies had plot and characters in them?

I was more impressed with the ideas behind Ghost in the Shell than the Matrix. The Matrix series was fun but there's only so fair Keanu can take me.  Now CGI and Prez - I'll let qsound's comment in the chatroom take care of that.

If you didnt catch the deeper philosophy of The Matrix than you dont have a lot of say in a great many things...

Dope...

First, all you people blasting me for not liking the Matrix, I give you your champion!

Second, I get the matrix.  Bobo, I have read like 10,000 comic books.  I get the Matrix, man.  That shit was soooooo played out all over the Marvel U long before Keanu brought enlightenment to your tiny little drunk, hillbilly, racist, gun-loving brain.

Oh, thats it.  Of course. The guns.  Got it.

This is like arguing that "chocolate is better than vanilla".   It's all a matter of personal taste in the final analysis.

That being said I thought Cloverfield was great and anyone who doesn't agree has the coarse taste of a common plebe.
