Rupert Murdoch predicts: President Obama

Got this from a link off Huffpo. Its all over the radio of course, but just in case you haven't heard: Murdoch thinks Obama's a rockstar, and his friend McCain doesn't stand for anything. He stops short of endorsing Obama, but says he's open. There's some interesting inside baseball on Keith Olberman too. Head over to Silicon Alley Insider and read this fascinating article.

Update [2008-5-29 17:12:20 by hazmat]: Video of the interview here

would be the best thing that could happen to Murdoch and company - imagine all of the specials, the blame and the hype caused by a messiah taking over the government...

All Murdoch sees are dollar signs, and Obama is fodder for so much potential!!!!

Isn't America Great!!!!

try writing something unexpected for once. I take your point, but there's more to this story than that.

I found Murdoch's remarks about the future of newspapers and journalism very interesting. He also stated that "the education system in this country is a total disgrace." Overall, it's a good interview.

There's some interesting inside baseball on Keith Olberman too.

Murdoch staunchly defended the Fox News Channel's "Fair and Balanced" motto as accurate, adding that even Bill O'Reilly "gives both sides all the time" -- a remark that prompted laughs from the audience.

So why aren't there more liberal voices on Fox News, Kara Swisher asked? Murdoch replied that he would hire a liberal voice if he could find one that was strong enough.

"Would you hire Keith Olbermann?" Swisher asked.

Murdoch's response: "No, I fired him five years ago... He's crazy." [LINK]

There's your opening, Cenk. Crack the books and become a more knowledgeable commentator and stronger interviewer and have your lips surgically removed from Olbermann's butt cheek and you could be the newest star on Fox News.

I might get a cable subscription just to watch FOX.

Something you miss is that the Murdoch Press supported Tony Blair and Labour back in 1997 and, I believe, also in the next general election. Since Murdoch owns something like half the British press, that's huge!!!

Murdoch is very much a Tory/GOP sympathiser, but we likes to pick a winner (and iirc Blair did him some favours following his election).

I don't see Murdoch going as far as supporting Obama. Why? Unlike his readership in Britain back in the 90s, his US viewership seems to still vote solidly conservative.
