Obama quits Trinity Church

Google Technorati del.icio.us digg reddit
Well, Obama has shown more of that famous "good judgement" that he bases his campaign on by dumping his church of 20+ years into the river (feet firmly cemented in the bucket).

Anyone who believes he is a different kind of politician should really check their dosage for accuracy!

I guess we can all say we saw this coming - but I must especially compliment the timing by his staff to do this almost immediately as the rules committee made their decisions to subvert democracy in Michigan... "Lets see if we can hide it any better..." were their exact words (not really)

Heres a link to the Politico story:

http://www.politico.com/new s/stories/0508/10724.html

What a crock - I guess his "associations" are finally catching up with him... I hear Hannity has a tape of Michelle at the pulpit talking about Whitey that they are waiting for later to release, after he has officially sewn up the nomination... thta should help his case with the undecideds!

I'll let you guys comment on this - most of you probably can figure out what I think about it.

Thanks for reading...

once wrote about the importance (or lack thereof) of Obama's pastor.

He said it so perfectly here that I have nothing to add:

"...Finally, people say it is relevant becuase he was Barack Obama's pastor. Really? Why? Does that mean he influenced Obama into secretly hating America and that once Obama becomes president he is going to hand the country over to France or Iran or Congo? Of course that's absurd, so if we agree that Obama does not share Rev. Wright's views (as he has made abundantly clear), what is the point of bringing this guy up over and over again? What is the relevance?

Look, don't get me wrong, I get why the media is doing it. It's highly entertaining. This Rev. Wright guy is a character. But in the end they should put things in context and explain that this is not a real issue in anyone's real life in America. You will not get better health care or cheaper gas based on what Rev. Wright said or did not say..."

I believe this whole ordeal involving the Trinity Church speaks volumes on Obamas overall judgement (or lack thereof) and directly ties into what kind of man he has presented himself to be compared to what kind of man he really is -

People are pinning their hopes and dreams for the reforms you speak of, bias, on this man who has run a "clean" campaign based on integrity, honor and trustworthiness... but I ask, who does he seemingly surround himself with -

Racists, terrorists and radicals who in their collective histories have ties to some of the more rabid and questionable people and groups in our recent history, thats who (and Oprah!!!)

Can a man be judged solely by the actions of his friends - no, not really, but can he be judged if hes still actively hanging around with his friends after they do crazy and sometimes illegal shit? Abso-fuckin-lutely!!!! 20+ years and he didnt know about their views (or worse yet agreed with them until they weren't politically viable now?) The worse kind of liar....

Its all a matter of character and judgement - I have my own reservations about Obamas policies on the real issues you bring up - but you guys on the left have really based this election on one sole event - getting rid of Bush (a man of questionable connections, amoral integrity and criminal malice).

Why replace one person of questionable character and judgement with another? It just doesnt make sense to me - but I suppose the alternatives are no better...

People will not forget this, bias - people will make their own decision, and Obamas associations and actions are making it much easier to decide against him at this point...

Thanks again for your comments...

is that you don't believe most of what you just wrote.

Let me clarify. I do not believe that you actually believe this says a damn thing about Obama's "judgement".  ; I think the only argument you have (and the only argument that has *some* degree of validity) is that this issue could influence the uninformed/misinformed masses.

Maybe I'm giving you too much credit here, but that's what I think. You aren't uninformed, you're just coming to the wrong conclusions. I and many others often disagree with your opinions as they relate to Hillary/Obama/McCain, but that's a separate issue.

I also think that you firmly planted your anti-Obama flag and put all of your eggs in the "anybody but Obama" basket months ago, which means it's damn near impossible for you to view these situations in a more reasonable, less biased manner.

And look, I understand. It can be very frustrating or even embarrassing to take a really firm stand on something only to consider you might be wrong, and or that you have to move on.

But deep down I know that you know that I know you know it's time to do just that.

for your comments as always...

While I'll disagree with you on your basic premise, I want to thank you for being up front, courteous and honest in your postings - it is refreshing to have civil discourse and conversation with people who have opposing viewpoints that dont think too much of themselves or their importance (unlike many posters here, myself included on many occasions).

I do believe in what I say - I dont think Obama is the Messiah that you guys think he is - I think hes a good politician who knows how to tap the unlimited anger and fear that the last 7 years of Bush has generated.

I think hes gonna win - and thats going to be a positive reflection on our soceity and its advancement. If it does happen, it will tell us that we in fact have come a long way since my early days...

But he will have to do it without me - I cant and wont vote for him because I cannot lump myself in with his followers - again, Obama to me (as I have stated numerous times on TYT) is just another shyster Chicago Democrat to me - its the youthful, Generation whatever crowd that I cant come to grips with - I wont allow myself to be let down when the eventual fall comes from Obama - when he proves to everyone that he cannot save us from ourselves...

I guess its a lot to expect from anyone, but when you run for the Big job - you better damn well be the best, and I just dont think he is.

But life goes on, because in reality our votes and this whole sordid affair really doesnt matter... When a party can overturn a valid election on a "compromise" without the voters consent, democracy has effectively ended - but I suppose that Happened back in 2000 when we had 5 Republicans steal the results in similar fashion, overturning the obvious will of the people...

You think we'd have learned by now?

Thanks again, bias...

If you old enough to remember LPs, even a screwed up record skips to a new track occasionally.

but can he be judged if hes still actively hanging around with his friends after they do crazy and sometimes illegal shit?

The American public has been voting for Republicans for years. I will not waste my time to generate a list for you of people who are active in Republican (and Clintonian politics) that " do( and have done) crazy and sometimes illegal shit." Currently that is a large percentage of the West wing and McCain's advisor's

That being said, you just answered your own question and negated your entire collection of Obama bashing blogs:

Why replace one person of questionable character and judgement with another? It just doesnt make sense to me - but I suppose the alternatives are no better...

Mr. Smith Goes to Washington is a Hollywood story, a movie, regardless of the blogger who shall not be named idiotic assertion that Ronald Regan was an "accidental" President. We have a two party system, right or wrong that's what we have. There literally are no alternatives other than not voting.

To move ahead in politics you make associations, acquaintances, contacts, some of whom turn out to be unsavory characters or have skeletons in there closets, every politician, without exception, has them.

Has Obama handled the issue with aplomb? No, not always.

Racists, terrorists and radicals who in their collective histories have ties to some of the more rabid and questionable people and groups in our recent history, thats who (and Oprah!!!)

I find Obama's church no more unsavory than the Republicans embracing every racist in the South using the" Southern Strategy", McCain appearing with convicted fellons Oliver North and G Gordon Liddy on their radio programs, Jew Hunter Hagee or the litany of other extremists that surround his campaign.

You remind me of my old baseball coach. The best pitcher in the bullpen had a really odd delivery. He looked like a drunk falling down some stairs and a semi sidearm release BUT the guy was throwing at least 90 mph. Accurately.  I base that on the bruises on my hands after catching for him. The coach, a baseball purist, was all over him about it on a daily basis. On day Phil just unloaded on the coach " I have best heater here!" The coach just looked at him "But it's so damn ugly son."

There will never be a perfect candidate. As I have said I'll vote for either one.

Its time to fish or cut bait my friend.

You will not get better health care or cheaper gas based on what Rev. Wright Hagee said or did not say...

How does that statement strike you?

Obama said he has "tremendous regard" for the church community, but said he could not live with a situation where everything said in the church, including comments by a guest pastor, "will be imputed to me, even if they conflict with my long-held, views, statements and principles."

Despite the conflicts with his views and principles, he remained a member for many years. With no track record and a campaign that is selling only vaporware, it is legitimate -- necessary even -- to judge Obama by the company he keeps. What does it say of Obama's judgment that he entrusted his daughters' religious indoctrination to a bunch of nutjobs?

Except that Obama has already been in politics for a bit and his policies in no way reflect any racism or anger toward America.

When Obama is president, I don't see him pushing for a Reparations Bill, a "I hate White America" Bill or anything else remotely negative and in any way related to his church.

By contrast, I very well *could* see McCain being influenced by his weekly meetings with religious white zealots at the White House with respect to some of his foreign policy decisions. No, I don't think it's McCain's goal to hasten the rapture, but yes, I *do* think he wants to appease the crazy right wing evangelical base through policy on Israel, Iran, etc.

Case Closed champ. I sure you hope you brought something else otherwise that was way too easy, and I'm half asleep (just rolled out of bed 5 minutes ago).

I didn't imply that he would push for legislation based on the idiocy of his pastor. I questioned his judgment.

Republicans owe special thanks to Clinton Inc. for the millions of dollars they spent on opposition research on Barack Obama. When developing a list of the hundreds of Obama flip flops, it’s apparent that all the leg work was done by the Clinton people. These are priceless, and it didn’t cost us a dime.

Thanks Hillary!

I'm waiting for someone to start saying he threw the entire congregation under the bus. There's just no pleasing these jokers. But I'm glad he did it if only to give everyone in the church a break from the lazy press.

Can we now please start focusing on the war, the economy, the energy situation, education, health care, Afghanistan, Pakistan, NAFTA, etc., etc.?

by Verified1 on 06/01/2008 02:15:03 AM EST

This is the point.

When times are OK people focus in on things like who is getting married to who, who is burning the flag, where is the blue dress, what church does he/she go to, etc.

When times are really good people tend to forgive politicians for not focusing in on those goofy side shows (see Clinton's poll numbers during the impeachment process).

When times are uncertain or bad, people focus in on their own bottom line and things that directly affect them. They tend to ignore the side show issues (see the million man march of 199? Actually, I remember it because Howard Stern was parodying Louis Farrakhan so well that people (myself included) were pulling over on route 280 because they were laughing too hard to drive. Most other people don't even know what the million man march was anymore.).

Republicans always want to go back to the goofy side show/wedge issue play book which brought them to power over the last 30 years. The refusal to put down that play book has been the instrument of their own demise recently. The Republican incumbent party made a fatal error in American politics a few years ago. They gave the American people a reason to pay attention to American politics and the real issues.

McCain is running on a platform that is based on the idea that he is not one of these garden variety Republicans while still trying to kiss the ass of the base. Can he continue this juggling act? Who knows but now that the cameras are focused in on him and not the Hillary .vs Obama show his numbers are dropping.

Keep in mind that some factions of the "Republican base" have a vested interest in making sure McCain never wins. You will see it in a few months.

Well said, zlp, but I'm afraid the Million Man March is coming back as another piece of slime to throw at Obama. For some reasons the Repubs are still holding on to it.

"Lets see if we can hide it any better..." were their exact words (not really)

Exact words (not really)?  What kind of weasly word twist is that supposed to be?

And no, we did not see this coming.  Especially not you.  You have remained firmly cemented (to prolong your vivid mafia imagery) in the belief that Obama is a bad, bad man who thinks God should damn the United States.  Now you're going to tell us, "told you so?"

Get the hell off the internet, Bobo.  You are a disgrace.

by OneHitKill on 06/01/2008 03:09:23 AM EST

If you didnt predict Obama leaving his disgraceful church, then there is something obviously wrong with you - It was no longer politically viable to be attached or associated with a group that promotes that much hatred and then go out and preach a message of hope and change!

I was just saying that the timing of his departure from Trinity couldnt have been any better - right as the DNC meeting that essentially handed him the nomination (by altering public elections). Talk about news cycle manipulation!!! Kudos to his campaign crew for that!

Dont be sniveling doofwad - I think that Japanese air is affecting your judgement! You're usually smater than that...
