Hillary's Nuclear Option on Huffington Post

Google Technorati del.icio.us digg reddit
A strange, suggestive juxtaposition of articles on Huffington Post. Humorous coincidence, or nefarious plot?

I haven't been a member long, and this is my first post here. But I just had to share what I saw over on The Huffington Post. I really like HP, and I'm an Obama supporter, but it was just too weird.

In the "Popular Stories on HuffPost" sidebar widget, the top story is "Clinton Camp Says It Will Use The Nuclear Option." Then, the story directly beneath it is "New Photos Reveal Horror of Hiroshima (GRAPCHIC IMAGES)."

I already find this somewhat suspicious, not to mention really funny. But there's more.

Further down the page, in the "Top Buzz on HuffPost" sidebar, the top story is "Hillary Should Be Dismissed From The...[Democratic Party For Iran Comments]" (the full title is not shown in the sidebar). This turns out to be a story by Ben Cohen, arguing that Hillary Clinton should be ejected from the party for having threatened nuclear holocaust in Iran with the "obliterate" comment, in violation of international law.

Taken together, it all just struck me as improbable. As a side note, I think maybe all the politicians should rethink the habit they're getting into of using nuclear warfare as a metaphor for drastic but nonviolent political maneuvers.

It's actually the same on a couple pages I have open.  Here's one.  But since everything I'm talking about is in the sidebar widget things, I'm not sure they will be the same. I don't know any reliable way to be sure you will see what I do. I think they get updated frequently.

Scroll down and the sidebars are on the right. For the moment, they still seem to have the right stories in them.

I think you're probably a stealth Hillary supporter pushing an agenda. If I google some of your catch phrases, I will probably find this posted on other websites.

I actually don't support Hillary Clinton at all. If she's the nominee, it will be difficult for me to vote for her. I remember all the way back when she first ran for Senate, I felt that it was inappropriate for her to do so while she was still First Lady. And it was obvious that she was planning to run for president, which I also thought was inappropriate.

I reached voting age in the late 90's. I was so disgusted with the behavior of both parties at that time that I have always been an independant voter. In fact, I was so repulsed that I've usually voted for whatever random candidates didn't belong to either major party. (I voted for Nader, twice, and I'm not sorry. You can't expect me to loyally vote with the party when I haven't joined a party. I was against both parties. It's not that I thought they were the same, just equally bad.)

This year, I registered with the Democratic Party, largely to vote for Barack Obama in the primary (and I just filled out my mail-in ballot about half an hour ago). But ultimately, I will be voting democratic anyway, because the horrible, constitution-damaging behavior of the current administation must be punished at the polls.

Also, I find it difficult to support anyone who stood before the people in the 90s and said that lying and oathbreaking justified impeachment, but who now supports the far more egregious lying and oathbreaking of Bush and Cheney, apparently without embarrassment. If the "Republicans" had any sense of honor, as they claim to, they would do one of two things: they would stand by their own assertions, eject Bush and Cheney from their party, and support impeachment proceedings; or they would apologize for impeaching Clinton for comparitively minor offenses.

Basically, I like Barack Obama, and I'm more repulsed by the "Republicans" than the Democrats these days. (One of the things I like best about Obama is that he speaks out against all the things that disgusted me in the 90s.)

I would prefer just about any other non-"Republican" to Hillary Clinton. I think that a Hillary Clinton presidency will bring me more of what I don't like, at least partly for reasons that aren't her fault. But I really don't want it.

The thing on The Huffington Post was just weird

I think Hilary should pay a price for her behaviour during this campaign... I think her name is mud in  fund raising circles because she ran a poor campaign and blew the election... and these over the top republican-esque tactics in the last half of her campaign are reprehensible. I don't know about being ousted from the party... but she's playing scorched earth politics so she has to deal with the consequences...

She will lose the nomination and come back to the fold and will be treated like a major palyer in the party (like Ted after he torpedoed Carter in 80) but the notion that she has a realistic shot in 2012 if Obama loses is a "fairy tale."  Just like Teddy getting the nod post-1980 was laughable.

She has sowed some salt into the furrows that won't soon be forgotten.

Nontheless if her name is on the ballot and not Obama's I'll vote for her.  I hope you all will too.

that she will pay for her campaign tactics in the natural way (by losing).

The article's suggestion was that she should be booted from the party for threatening Iran with nukes, not for her campaign tactics. The idea is that she violated the U.N. charter.

Here's the article.

I'm not sure I think it makes all that much sense. I don't think she has the authority necessary to violate the U.N. charter, and I don't think U.N. charter violations should be handled by the DNC. I do think her comments were too inflammatory under current circumstances, and that her position is much too absolute--that we would go to war with Iran if they attacked Israel, no matter what, regardless of the rest of the situation.

I don't think you should downplay what this would mean if Hilary would try to pull a fast one...it hurts all democrats ... If Hilary were to blindside the process, something she agreed to,  it wouldn't help her anyway... its self destructive for her, the party, etc. Hence the nuclear moniker. I am with KenTx ... this posting is suspicious ....

I detest her tactics, and I agree that they are destructive to the party.

For one thing, I feel personally offended by her characterization of Obama supporters, and I think it's stupid to insult voters.
