I'm Voting Republican

I know this may come as a shock to you, but I just watched a video that fundamentally changed my mind about Republicans and the Republican Party platform.

Watch this and I think you'll agree, we have no choice but to vote Republican this November.

PS---Fellow TYT fans, you should all check out the website Democratic Underground. It's a great resource for political discussion, political videos and political links and articles of all kinds.

And while it's clearly a progressive website, you'd be pleasantly surprised at how much debate and disagreement there is (a good thing IMO).

My favorite part is the video section which is unique for a political website, at least in my experience. If you click the link you'll notice there are plenty of great TYT videos that you can comment on (if you create a quick, free account) and recommend (after you've had a set amount of comments).

So not only is a great resource, but it also allows you to help spread the word about TYT.

This video did it for me, now I am convinced on which way to vote. Just kidding, loved the video, thanks for the link.

I'm guessing it'll hit a million, but I could be wrong.

Let me know what DU username you end up choosing so we can PM and do online brunch and stuff.

I visited there about 4 years ago - wasn't too impressed. 'Course, it was the Kerry debacle falling apart at the seams at the time.

I use the same name no matter where I am - I don't dare try and remember which person I am at which site.

I have to recommend the video section to check out the latest video clips. You can always decide which ones seem appealing (or not) to you.

Sad little patriotic cupcake says it all.

I wish this video didn't need to exist though.  It's depressing that that IS basically what the other side is arguing.  Marc Maron is right.  He said (and I'm paraphrasing) "If we look at McCain and his ideas and say 'Yes', then we don't even deserve the idea of America anymore."

"They're just gays and women" was my favorite part BTW.

was when the little kid with the toy machine gun says something like "I'm voting Republican so that someday I can go to war in Iran"

and the caption reads -Future Draftee

Depressing are the pathetic comments from conservatives on YouTube.

For example, when someones response to me posting a couple of statistics regarding republicans and debt was "eat shit faggot", or something like that. Oh, and at one point he said something about me being liberal.

I don't get it, I really don't. I don't see how someone can be so invested in their party that damning facts don't sway them an inch. Honestly, what would it take for that final 20-25% of Americans who approve of Bush to change their minds?

Even if pictures came out of Bush molesting kids I can guarantee he'd STILL have at least a 10% approval rating, and his base would dismiss the pictures as a liberal conspiracy. Anything to not be proven wrong, anything to not have to question their beliefs, anything to avoid a loss for Team Republican.

That's exactly why, because it's all too real.  I think it's funny and everything, but I have big contentious political debates with my boss and he literally seems to believe some of the stuff in the video.  He would be in that 25/10%.  As far as what we can do to sway them, I would say nothing.  Some people won't bend until the ideas are so accepted that they can change sides without anybody really noticing (like with segregation for example).  I'm fine with letting them have that.  They lose in the end, and we all know it.

The "eat shit faggot" thing is funny for a few reasons:  1)  He spelled faggot right, and he should get some credit for that, beacause the majoirty of right wingers online can't manage to do it.  And 2) It's only a few steps below Ken losing an argument and then bragging about his highschool football career to save face.  Both are classics.

not directed at me specifically, but someone wrote:

"Democrats want to "windfall" tax oil companys, that means to the idiots you pay more a the pump and get less exploration.

Democrats want to raise taxes on capital gains, less investment, more unemployment.

Democrats as shown by create the law from my ass judges have NO respect for the constitution. The legislative branch creates laws, judges interpret them to the government educated idiots out there who don't have a clue.

These people are your typical ignorant idiots who vote Democrat."

Spencer (or anyone), guess which phrase amused me the most?

The guy is kind of all over the place, which makes it hard to tell.

My favorite is this whole part: "Democrats as shown by create the law from my ass judges have NO respect for the constitution. The legislative branch creates laws, judges interpret them to the government educated idiots out there who don't have a clue."  I must be a moron, because I barely even kinda sorta understand what he's saying there.  And what does it have to do with his whole gas prices/tax thing?  At least he knows what the legislative branch does though.  That's something.

But I love how conservatives are incapable of making "points" without insulting whoever they are talking to over and over.  We can thank right wing radio for that.

"...government educated idiots".

I now see that he's made several comments like this, suggesting (basically) that our brains our warped from our cultish, propaganda filled public education.

I don't listen to Michael Savage that often, but doesn't he use that line of "reasoning"?  ; I'm guessing other conservative hosts do the same, bashing most forms of education.

It's a really terrible argument (I mean that on many levels), and I can't decide if its worse for them to believe it or to not believe it and say it anyway to undermine facts, logic, history and reason?

because I was just listening to Savage, and he was bitching about activist judges (which this guy brought up for no reason) and how terrible they were.  He does talk about education a ton as well, along with the rest of the echo chamber.  This guy definitely sounds like a product of it.

Some people just aren't able to form their own opinions, or they're too lazy to do the research for it, which leads them down one of two paths.  They can become 1) crazy conspiracy theorists, or 2) bitter angry conservatives.  Both require no actual knowledge/facts, and both have bullshit answers for everything.

We really need to find a way to run some of these as ads. There could be a whole series on "Why I'm voting Republican."

Facts never seem to have as much of an effect as simply mocking something (case in point-- the term 'liberal').
