One Angry Man

Phil Griffin, the senior vice-president in charge of MSNBC (“Phil thinks he’s my boss,” Olbermann says), raised the matter of tone. Why did Olbermann need to end his commentary by telling the President of the United States to “shut the hell up”?

“Because I can’t say, ‘Shut the fuck up,’ that’s why, frankly,” Olbermann responded. The line stayed in.

Enjoyable read.

And thank you, Keith Olbermann.

Oddly enough he does sound like a bit of a jerk in his personal life, but that's not really all that surprising.  You wouldn't get to the position he's in without ruffling a few feathers.  Nice to have a guy on our side getting so much publicity.  I was a big fan of him and Kenny Mayne on the old SportsCenter broadcasts--back when the anchors were actually more funny than annoying.  Now I watch his show religiously.

but he stopped being a newsman when he started his commentary show.

That's okay, though.  It's actually PRESENTED as a commentary show.

Some of that is justified IMO, but some of it is just the people who already hated him (read: conservatives/disgruntled Hillary supporters) piling on and putting more kindling on the fire, as if to say "ah ha, see, we TOLD you he was (fill in the blank pejorative)".

My fear is that the negative publicity will taint him in the eyes of many who would otherwise have formed their own opinions of him.

I liked Olbermann when he first came out, but he has taken himself way too seriously lately, and frankly its marginalizing him as an effective broadcaster in my opinion. His "special comments" are getting a bit overwrought, and one can tell he is having more Murrow wet dreams than he can adjust to. I hope his head, as well as the other talking heads, return to normal size once the election is over (regardless of the outcome). :)
