Did I miss the news of TYT on XM?

Google Technorati del.icio.us digg reddit
xmradio.com is confirming that the Turks are coming back to XM, channel 167, which will be called "America Left" instead of Air America on July 14th.

Did I miss the announcement on the show?  I didn't get to see most of the post-game yesterday and I've been busy today. (Dammit that'll teach me.)  If this is old news, tell me: what timeslot will they have?

XM takes a 'left' turn, KIST takes a fall (why won't the hyperlink work for me?  This link will probably won't work either but it'll give you an idea: http://ltradio.blogspot.com /2008/06/xm-takes-left-turn -kist-takes-fall.html )

"In a not-so-surprising move, XM Radio is retooling it's "Air America" channel (XM167). Come July 14, the satellite provider brings back its former name - America Left.

The channel will still carry Bill Press, Ed Schultz, Randi Rhodes, Thom Hartmann and Mike Malloy. They are also adding Stephanie Miller and The Young Turks. Miller will likely take the 9A-noon shift currently held be Lionel. No word on what role the Turks, who left Air America earlier this year to do an internet-based afternoon show, play in this grand scheme. The show initially got its start on rival (and soon to be partner) Sirius. And there is no word on possible time shifts for the channel's current offerings..."

So, July 14th, hunh?   Air America chooses Bastille Day to convert to America Left.  I always thought you leeeeberals look a little "French" to me...

I originally got XM so I could hear TYT at work and in the car.  I'm psyched to have them back, and to see the lineup getting stronger on channel 167 (Stephanie Miller is coming on-board too)!

I am pretty damned excited to have the boys back (you too Ana).

I didn't see Maddow's name on that list?  Is that an oversight or does making the brilliant move of restoring the Turkish Empire mean they have to balance it out by dumping the only damn talent on the station currently???

Or is MSNBC finally waking up and giving her a TV show?

I am glad to hear it. I applaud XM and TYT for returning the show to the airwaves. Now the question is - do they get the 12M - 3a shift of the 3a - 6a? Either way, bravo TYT! :)

...that they make TYT fire Ana.  But that's only fair, Cenk did beat her in a race.

Let me do what I can to help, Ana:

I hope it doesn't effect the content though.

I thought the whole point of satellite was that you could pretty much say whatever you want?

But I have no real experience with Sirious or XM so I'm not qualified to know.

At any rate, a big THANK YOU to everyone who kept TYT afloat in the last several, turbulent months.  The members and donations (and ok I'll say it, web soliders) made this possible.

But it isn't necessarily true about Air America where they broadcast on AM stations as well.  Randi Rhodes got shafted by AAR because of something she said off-air...

Hopefully the change to America Left will bring some improvement in "artistic freedom".  We'll see.

But I bet we don't see Jill visit any time soon.  =(

Cenk and Dave have both confirmed.

aren't you a member and a web solider?  People who watched the show and YouTube clips also helped.

Even Bobo helped!

by ihavenobias on 06/19/2008 03:12:52 PM EST

I asked to have my name taken off the credits because I didn't have the time to do enough soldiering.  I still try to do my menial little part though (which I guess is why I'm still on the e-mail list).

I am a member though, so woot for that.

I will have to call in to debate him.

And then talk about the glories of Longhorn football with him.

If bobo calls in I might still call but I don't see how that could lead to anything that would qualify under even the loosest definition as a debate.

And I don't know what bobo's colleg football team is.

Where did he go? This was his last post.

Then he went all Rumpelstiltskin on us, and ran away.

by KenTX on 06/19/2008 05:47:57 PM EST

I saw where he went all ape shit on you and I, even had MedfordTim defending you (between tokes, that is).

Im sure he'll return - hes probably off on his honeymoon, being in California and all...

I hope finally being able to marry someone makes him feel better, really... thats a lot of anger to keep inside!

:)

so anything of mine that looks batshit insane (more than usual anyway) is probably a followup to some other such craziness posted by someone else.

I'm probably being silly since the web-members kept the show going, but the XM deal is not gonna restrict the show content at all as far as podcasting, amirite?

I'm not gonna go buy an XM radio, I had Smearious, loved the Turks, and then they left :( Now I just podcast all the way.

I know there's some stuff missing, because there was a spat in here earlier (as per usual).

do all of the other comments keep getting deleted, but mine are still here?

Haven't you seen that Star Trek Next Generation episode when crew members begin to disappear until only Dr. Crusher is left?  You might be Dr. Crusher.

When am I going to get my XM channels on my Sirius radio?!

by jarett on 06/20/2008 03:21:54 AM EST

Good question J-dog. The proposal was an ala carte package involving 50 user-selected channels for $6.99 per month. That would suit me just fine, because I don't need more than 50 channels.

I'm distressed to hear that satellite is losing listeners to podcasts. It makes sense because I listen to satellite in my car, and in my second house in the country. When I'm at the gym or the track, I listen to podcasts.

I wish they would bring back MSNBC. My guess is that MSNBC discontinued satellite radio broadcast because it was hurting TV ratings. (as if they could be any lower)

It sounds too good to be true.  I'll believe it when I see it.  When I do, I will be more than happy to chuck my Sirius and get a new XM. I listen at work and the hours I can listen are 8 am to 3 pm PST. That means one excruciating hour of entertainment hack Alex Bennett, followed by only one hour of Thom Hartmann (why can't they broadcast his whole show?), then an unbearable 2 hours with the prejudiced, non-Democrat, anti-Obama, liberal-when-it-suits-her Lynn Samuels (I usually switch to the New Wave music station until 12:00). Two hours of Big Ed almost-Republican Schultz, and then Make It Plain with Mark Thompson (if I can stay awake through it, no disrespect). TYT, Randi Rhodes, Mike Malloy, and Stephanie Miller are my favorites. Like I said, almost too good to be true.
