Bob Barr makes McCain sweat in N. Carolina

Google Technorati del.icio.us digg reddit
I wrote on the "Minnesota Nice" article that Libertarian presidential candidate Bob Barr would steal votes from John McCain in favor of Barack Obama - becoming the Ralph Nader of 2008 (except that the guy with the most votes would win this time).

A new poll released by Public Policy Polling shows that McCain is still in the lead in North Carolina - but not by a very comfortable margin.

Barack Obama 40% John McCain 43% Bob Barr 6%

Not a very good number for John McCain, trying to keep hold of a state that Chucklenutz won with 12% in the 2004 elections. And losing popular support in favor of a guy who ate tit cheese in the Borat movie - I will probably be laughing all the way to November.

Obama will definitely win 1 to 2 of them, maybe more. This will blow a gaping hole in the Repub electoral map. At the very least, they will need to spend big money defending these up till now solidly red states.

We got a lock on Dallas now, Corpus Christi, Austin, Waco, Byron/College Station, most the triangle really.

They got San Antonio and the white parts of  West Texas and of course all of East Texas which the shitty part. It's like what Louisiana shat out. Especially Vider and Houston. Mad props to Texarkana - as red as it I love that town.

If they pick Bailey-Hutchinson for Veep, there's some chance we may own both Senate seats soon.

A big key to watch is how pissed the Mexes are at the immigration stuff.  The way we win TX and Cornyn gets the boot is the Mexicans show up en masse and vote against the pubs.  Watch those numbers, SA, El Paso, Laredo, McAllen, Edinburgh, Harlingen.  If we win those, the pubs are done here.

dream ticket
In 2002, Democrats ran Tony Sanchez for Governor and Ron Kirk for Senate. They called it the “Dream Ticket”. As predicted, there was a huge turnout by blacks and latinos. But there was a “huger” turnout by white voters. In fact, exit polls revealed that ProfRich was the only white person in Texas who voted against John Cornyn and Rick Perry.

The Dream Ticket was crushed.

Interesting that ProfRich used to vote for Rick Perry when he was a Democrat, but he quit voting for him after he became a Republican. Rich is very predictable that way.

Here's a map showing how the counties vote. The very faint, light blue county in the middle of the state is Travis County (where Rich is from). If there are any white people in the state of Texas who still vote Democrat, it is in the 1970s throwback Travis County.

Every single county will vote in 2008 exactly how they voted in 2004.  The fact that there is no Texan in the race is irrelevant.  The polling is lies.

I remember there used to be a guy on this board who mocked Dems because he said they kept losing because they were always trying to win the last election.  Anyone seen that guy?

"Every single county will vote in 2008 exactly how they voted in 2004."

I invite you to look at the map again and click on a county or two. Consider the magnitude of the spread in each county. Then visualize the millions of cowpokes and sod busters and rough necks and shrimpers and truckers and latinos deciding that they want to vote for the black guy this year.

Rich, you don't live in the same Texas that I do. I know every square inch outside of Travis County. I've lived in Monahans, El Campo, Bay City, Victoria, Goliad, Wharton, Smithville, La Grange, Big Spring, Devine, Plano, Sugar Land, San Antonio, Richardson, Houston, Longview, Port Lavaca. You act as if you've never driven out of the city limits of Austin. (pun intended)

I know two Texas ladies in their 90s who went to school with LBJ in San Marcos, and who have voted Democrat in every election since 1940, and they guarantee me they will never vote Obama, and they are even considering McCain. It's not that they don't like black people, it's just that they don't like phony, empty suits, who can do nothing but talk to teleprompters.

The fact that you're hopeful of an Obama victory in Texas speaks volumes to your opinion of his chances nationwide. You're blowing smoke up your own ass, just like you did in 2004.

And I am just looking at polls, Ken.  Just hearing what the people are saying.

I have not called for an Obama win in Texas, I just think there is a chance it will close enough for McCain to have to spend resources here.  That is all.
