Send This To Everyone You Know (Or Even Don't Know)

Google Technorati del.icio.us digg reddit
Well, maybe not EVERYONE you know, but  send it to anyone who might vote and especially anyone who has gotten or might get one of those Obama smear emails.

I created a comprehensive resource to combat some of the more common Obama smears that's full of videos, articles and commentary.

There are also some really other really interesting things in there. For example, I take a look at a breakdown of the tax plans of McCain and Obama and give a great link on how having a Democrat in office effects the average pay of the middle class.

My friend at work sent me an email that his sister had received from one of her coworkers.  Apparently the coworker is a moderate, undecided voter and he was forwarded an anti-Obama message with video that gave him serious doubts about Barack.

I personally haven't been on any anti-Obama email chains, but I increasingly talk to people who have been, and sometimes they share them with me to show how ridiculous they are.

At any rate, I couldn't take it anymore, and spent an hour or so writing up a response to the laughably bad anti-Obama smears. It includes a bunch of great links to articles and videos (several of which are from TYT, and others from the Washington Post, Politico, HuffPo and more) and hopefully it'll do a little something to beat back the dumb Obama smears while also providing some information and arguments against John McCain.

Look, the best weapon the right wing has right now is the anti-Obama emails. As ridiculous as they are to us, they do seem to be having some effect on some people. With that in mind I think we need to be making our own email effort.

This is my small contribution to that end.

That's the 30% of voters who aren't hard right or hard left. They'll determine the outcome of the election. They can be reached via email, talk radio, TV ads, FoxNews, and even blogs like TYT. We all have our blocking assignments. Mine is TYT. Tiny gets it, and this is why my participation freaks him out. Lord help me but I love it when Tiny goes into orbit.

I'll take this to mean that you're going to share the email with everyone you know.

You're the best!

So far, you're doing a piss-poor job ;)

Isn't Bobo (staunch advocate of Obama since last year) now considering McCain?!

by ihavenobias on 06/27/2008 04:51:53 PM EST

Eventually bobo and mookie and maybe even hubble and Lord Foul will turn their backs on the Democrat Party. You far lefties have hijacked the party (with the help of cross-over republicans like me) and there will be a day of reckoning.

You think that a single election victory means 50 years of Democrat dominance. What it really means is that I finally get to go on offense, after being forced to play defense for eight years.

No single party can win every presidential election. Take a look at how the pendulum swings in history. Barack Obama looks like Jimmy Carter to the power of ten!

by KenTX on 06/27/2008 05:02:10 PM EST

[ Parent ]
You only have to "play defense for eight years" when your party drives the country into the ground on foreign policy, economic issues and constitutional issues (for 8 years).

Otherwise you only play defense *sometimes* and even get to play offense!

This shouldn't be about Team Republican (red uniforms) and Team Democrat (blue uniforms). If one party is terrible and screwing the country overall you don't keep rooting for them as if they're your hometown football team.

Politics is the only "sport" where being a fair weather fan is not only ok, it's the smart thing to do.

This week I'm on the "streets" ; (as you call it) of Duke University and UNC, converting people to conservatism.

Note that we proselytize in your backyard, while you liberals hide in like-minded forums, giving each other moral support.

How have you been doing at converting conservatives to liberalism? It's kind of hard to do in this forum, wouldn't ya say?

by KenTX on 06/29/2008 09:00:38 PM EST

Gee, maybe you could talk some of them into being basketball fans next.  Quite an akomplishment, Ken.

I visited Duke once.  Got a stomach bug and puked all over that old gothic cathedral they have there.

Good times.

Then my brother and I (he lived there at the time) went over to UNC.  I have to say, as beautiful a campus as any in America.  And beautiful coeds to boot.  And that is coming from a native Austinite.

Then I went over to NC St.  It looked like an industrial park.

Were you in downtown Austin on the night of the 2000 Election? I really meant to be there, but we had an election party in Houston, and as I recall, it was raining and cold in Austin.

I thought we established that I don't like gatherings of people?

The weather was bad in Austin though.  At the time I lived on West Campus.  So Ken knows I could walk out onto my balcony and hear the Pubs speaking in front of the capitol.  I distinctly remember hearing Jorge Bush (the half-mexican kid) speaking from my balcony while he was on my TV in the condo.  It was kind of strange.  Like TV and real life were converging on me.

And I remember staying up all night and still not knowing who the hell won.

The Bush election return party was in front of the state capital here in Austin (you know the place now, Tom).  My condo was about nine blocks away.  If you watched the news that night you saw a LOT of coverage of the event.  We are talking about how I was watching it on the news but could hear it out my window.  It was weird.

Aw man, you may not know this but Bush and the republican party (Rove, Larry Craig, Scooter, McCain, BillO, Alberto Gonzalez and many more) by way of their actions are converting more repubs to dems than you ever will as one man, I'm sorry. Thanks to Bush and friends, I don't have to work as hard to convince people that that the Republican party sucks, their actions speak volumes. So in conclusion, no, I don't personally try to convert people, because my party doesn't have the bad rep that yours does:)

If I were you, I'd be pissed at the Repubs for making you have to work so hard to cover up their own mistakes. That sucks.

You obviously put some thought into this and it's a great tool.  I will also post it on a few non-political forums I belong to.  I have this one problem.  I don't know anyone personally who believes these smears or who is voting for McCain.  I guess it is because I live in the Pacific Northwest, which "isn't representative of the country" as they say.

by desertpear on 06/27/2008 01:30:13 PM EST

But I have the whole "friend of a friend" or "coworker of a friend" thing where I indirectly know people who DO buy into the smears, or at the very least half buy into them.

And look, if nothing else sharing this information strengthens the resolve to vote for Obama and other Dems.  As a bonus it also indirectly helps promote TYT since many of the links are to TYT youtube clips or Cenk's articles.

by ihavenobias on 06/27/2008 03:08:05 PM EST

Consider it done.  I already respond to any Obama smear stuff I get (as I hope anyone on this board would), but it's definitely nice to have something to cite for reference.  Even if they don't click it, it gives an air of credibility.

by Spencer on 06/27/2008 02:33:44 PM EST

Those are links to actual articles and video?

Damn, that is good work!

Have we read them?  Do they say what they are supposed to or did he do this "Ken Style"?

I made sure that my first two links and topics were regarding middle class wage growth under Dem presidents vs Repubs and the fact that Obama's tax plan will mean less taxes for 90% of Americans compared to McCain's.

I might make another email that focuses on 3 points (to keep things simple) and that would be two of them.  If enough people find out about this, the Republicans are even more screwed than they already are.

Can I just call you Tom?  Cenk called you Tom on the show yesterday, have no idea if that is your name but its my brother's name and as good as any I suppose.

You are right that we need to start getting the message out to the common folks who aren't listening to talk radio or reading political blogsites.

One thing I might add to the effort is a slight change in terms, and therefore framing.  Tom refers to this but I think I have a simpler more effective way of getting the point across.  I never talk about socializing health care.  I only talk about socializing health insurance.  Which is what the Dems are talking about.

Think about it.  If someone thinks you are going to take their doctor or hospital away they get nervous or even hostile.  Tell them you are going to take their insurance company away (but still pay the medical bills) and no one argues.  Are you going to miss your HMO/PPO coordinator or health insurance agent?

by ProfRich on 06/27/2008 02:42:27 PM EST

I agree with you on the framing, I actually normally use that exact same frame, i.e. I say it's socialized insurance, not socialized medicine.

I thought I had indirectly mentioned that in my DU thread but I guess I didn't use those exact words.  Keep in mind I wrote it pretty quickly.

is that there is no way to shorten "ihavenobias."

I don't care if it means the same as the actual name (because I think that's a joke or something anyway, right?), "bias" just sounds like a cool nickname.  It rolls off the tongue/home keys.  In fact, now that I see it, "home keys" is also a pretty good nickname.  From here on out lets all call me "home keys".

He's a "nativist" Spencer.  That must mean he is an Indian, right?  Because I believe they are the only race that is native to the US.  After bobo's family arrived, they decided immigration to the US should end.

Terrific idea, especially if you could get one of the various campaigns. MoveOn, or some such to forward it to their mailing list. I only have about 10 addys and they already are aware of this stuff, co I don't know how much I can help.

I have an assortment of outside the box ideas they could try, but as yet they haven't responded, enthusiastically or not.

One suggestion, if I may? Whenever possible, add a "snopes.com" debunking link. They won't all have of them, but snopes is highly regarded as non-partisan.

Congratulations! I wish I could muster up your energy!

I'll see what I can do.  And the link idea is a good one.

Again, I threw this together pretty quickly just to get it out there, but I recognize it's not perfect and could use some fine tuning.

As for my energy, check back in 10-20 years and we'll see if it's still there...
