The "swift boat" stain

Google Technorati del.icio.us digg reddit

The veterans of the Swift boats in Vietnam are dismayed at the ugly connotations that have become associated with the now common term "swift boating".

They feel that it is unfair that the term is now most often associated with a political sliming tactic that most regard as despicable and underhanded.

I hope they put the blame where it properly belongs.  Those people who chose to cynically use their standing as vets to disparage another vet's service record for purely political reasons have transformed the term into something that is abhorrent and disreputable.  It is ironic that  the end result of their actions was to place an ugly stain on the name of all Swift boat veterans that will not easily be washed away.  I feel for most them, I really do.  Think of how profoundly annoying it must be to be one of those who served on the Swift boats but never approved of what this small group of political hacks did.  They may not have wanted any part of "Swift boat veterans for truth", and yet they have to put up with the mortification of seeing the very name of the branch of service they are so proud of become a term for dishonorable behaviour.

Much to his credit, McCain disapproved and disavowed what the swift boaters did at the time that they did it.  Of course, who knows, by now he may have changed his mind about that too.

Never mind body language experts discussing Obama and Clinton hugging it out, Wes Clarke just finished clarifying his comments on the Verdict with Dan Abrams 6-30-08 (MSNBC) regarding his comments about McCain's qualifications for president. Man, it's like he was not even on the show because Roy Sekoff (Huffington Post), Tara Wall (The Washington Times) and Tucker Carlson put whatever spin on this subject that suited their fancy like a flamboyant interior decorator on "While You Were Out" deciding your crappy little apartment should be decorated in seafoam green for under 500 hundred bucks.

Oh, and McCain has teamed up with Swiftboater Bud Day. They formed the Truth Squad, haulin ass in the Straight talk express, on the Not So  Ambiguously Lame Highway.

Look out!!! I wouldn’t want to be Wes Clark right now. Bfaul is hot, and he’s about to open up a can of whoop ass! Let me hold his coat while he warms up. Let’s clear some space here. Everybody stand back!

Listen to bfaul’s opening salvo: “Those people who chose to cynically use their standing as vets to disparage another vet's service record for purely political reasons have transformed the term into something that is abhorrent and disreputable.”

Listen to Wes Clark
choose to cynically use his standing as a vet to disparage another vet's service record for purely political reasons.

OK bfaul, go get him! Let him have it!
Bfaul?
Bfaul?
Hello?

Does it even need to be said?  Once more, for the morons in the room:  Saying that getting shot down and held in prison does not qualify McCain to be president is not disparaging to McCain's record.  The Republicans would have been perfectly within the bounds of reason to say that fighting on a swift boat and getting wounded didn't qualify Kerry to be president.  I have absolutely no problem with that.

For the Democrats to sink to the same lows that the Republicans did they would have to show up at the convention with their hands bound and and their faces covered with fake bruises.  Do you understand now Koko?  How about another banana?  If you smear your feces around again we'll have to get out the genital cuff.

Served shoulder to shoulder with John Kerry. They saw him in action everyday. They said he was a liar, and that he awarded himself medals. They said he was unfit to command a swiftboat, much less all of America. They impugned his character, because they knew him like a brother. They did their duty by saving America from a man they knew very well. Do you understand, you LOSER?

"Served shoulder to shoulder with John Kerry. They saw him in action everyday"

No they didn't!  This has been disproved.  They did not serve with Kerry on the boat and were not there Kerry performed his heroics!  They were "in the area" and most didn't even know Kerry.

This is total bullshit.  Loser.

When I get to a laptop I'm going to pull up the facts and (figuratively) beat the hell out you on this issue.

Bullshit.  Most of those who served directly with him back Kerry.  Only one or two ever served on Kerry's boat or with Kerry directly and they've made their politics clear for everyone to see over the years.   They are Republican hacks who decided that honor could be thrown away, that you could piss all over someone else's record if you don't like their politics.  They have stained themselves and dragged the very term "swift boat" through the filth with them.  They have done, on a small level, what the neocons have done on a national level to the terms "republican" and "conservative".&n bsp; They've smeared their shit all over the place and now they stink to high heaven and no one wants to be around them anymore.

Just like you, KokoTX.

I thought that's what I remembered but wasn't sure without looking.

The swift boat veterans should round them up and kick the crap out of them for smearing their name.

Please explain to us exactly HOW Clark disparaged McCain's service record?  I would love to hear the explaination.  What I heard was Clark responding to the media's idiotic mythology that someone who has been a POW is somehow more qualified to be President, or somehow has more national security experience than someone without such a record.  He was taking a swipe at the media, first and foremost.  That is part of the reason why they are so up in arms.  He was also taking a swipe at McCain the politician.

Again, please provide us with an exact quote and explaination of Clark saying anything negative about McCain's military record.

Clark did not disparage McCain's record one iota.  He praised it in fact.

He just said being shot down didn't do anything to make you qualified to be president.

One more time, READ THE NEWS STORIES.
