Wow... it is surprising how political fans are like sports fans

It is crazy how people are acting with this campaign. Being passionate about the ideals of conservatism vs. liberalism is one thing but fighting so passionately over which liberal is more liberal is inane. My liberal is better than your liberal is. When did we become 5th graders having a pissing contest over whose dad could beat up whom? It is just bizarrely funny (and I not sure if it is funny "ha ha" or funny "sad") to see Dems fight each other to the point where if my candidate loses I'll vote for the Republican. Or the taunting of the supporters of the winning candidate towards the losing candidates supporters. HA HA! Our team won! These are our lives, man! Not the f'ing Superbowl. Whoever wins the Superbowl or loses the Superbowl... that is one thing. When it happens, it is really, in the big picture, no big deal. Choose Bush #2 and we'll really be fucked. But we have to remember... we aren't supporting a candidate... we are supporting an ideal! We are just arguing over who can implement those ideals the best, BUT!!! THE IDEALS ARE WHAT'S IMPORTANT HERE!

Great googly-moogly! I really have to say it is surprising how similar political fans are to sports fans. Standing back and looking at things like people's political conversations, TYT chatroom, and even the show, it is really surprising how similar political fans are to sports fans. Or should I say what it appears this word fan is short for... fanatic. I listen to people and they are sooo fervently passionate about their candidate and they are screaming and yelling at each other and it looks like they might even be able to strangle or kill each other.

It has turned into a "my team" vs. "your team". We are the winners! WOOT WOOT! I am waiting for when Obama wins the presidency that there will be a riot in the streets just as when a team wins the Superbowl or Stanley Cup or NBA championship, etc. Woot! OUR TEAM WON!!! WOOT!!! It is insane the fervor that people get when someone bad talks their candidate. When things happen like what happened to Gore, I understand the fervor. Taking an election away from the person who actually won and who the American people elected is just plain wrong and THAT is un-American.

But this whole fighting over who our candidate is... I mean it isn't like this is a Gore v Bush moment. I agree with all the Obama supporters, He won. I am an Obama supporter. I think he won. I do think Hillary is doing harm to the election. But I also think it is her right. I hope that the people of NY remember this and vote her out and the DNC remembers this and doesn't support her campaign when she runs again for the Senate. But I don't think she is outside of what is in her right. People have to learn (and I think Cenk may have said this before I don't remember) but people have the right to be as much of a dick as they wanna be. We just have to remember it and not vote for those people when their campaign runs again.

But what really bugs me is that it seems that people are supporting the candidate not the ideals. We as people like to feel that we are special. Now there are great people that come along in our world and they do great things and then they die and guess what happens... THE WORLD GOES ON! What we can hope for is that the ideals continue on! It is what we like to call ... someone's legacy. We as individuals are not special. Life is important, yes, but the "colony" is more important than one life. I say this to all people and yes... Hillary too. Look, if your candidate loses get over it. If your candidate wins, great... but you better get on their ass every time they screw up. See what I can really see happening is that when Obama screws up all these people who are fanatically supporting him, will ignore it when he screws up and will just blindly follow. If you want an example of this in history, I give you Hannity and O'Reilly. BUSH CAN DO NO WRONG! He is a great guy! He is always right! Violating our 4th Amendment is ok because we need to keep our country safe. Like Ben Franklin said... Those who are willing to give up freedom for security deserve neither freedom nor security. I think we call can agree on this.

So if you think I am wrong. "No DasGimp! Never! We'll hold him to the same standard we hold Bush and any other elected official" I can only say... I'll believe it when I see it. I think Obama is a great candidate. I think he is a wise man. I think he is an inspiring man. I think that he is intelligent and has a lot of right ideas. But we'll see if he makes a great president. I believe that he definitely seems like the best one out of he, Hillary, and McCain, but that doesn't mean he'll be a great president. I do not doubt it is possible. Just keeping a level head and not declaring it before it happens.

to be a good President, he just has to know how to pick the right people for each job. We don't need another leader who thinks he knows it all and can do no wrong. I somehow have the feeling that this man knows how to surround himself with knowledgable people who he listens to. His choice for VP will say a lot about that. To continue the sports analogy, the greatest QB can't win without a team around him and a good gameplan.

I resent that comment about Brett Favre.

Ya... it has nothing to do with Obama doing it on his own or not.  Nor does it have anything to do about who he surrounds himself with.  This is more about the supporters of political ideals vs. supporters of political candidates.

But to comment on your remark about surrounding himself with good people.  Well if he has good judgement then ofcourse he'll surround himself with good people.  But what did they say about Bush?  He has a great team.  And in reality he really did.  Powell, Cheany, Rumfield, Rove.  You can say what you will about them (I don't like them in hindsight) but when they were announced as his "team" that is A LOT of experienced knowledgable people.  And ofcourse they were knowledgeable.  They really knew how to screw over the American people.  But Bush is such a moron and a poor leader he didn't have the sense to refuse their decisions.  He just did what they said and assumed it was good stuff.

So you can have the political dream team and still totally screw up the country.  As far as republicans go... Bush has the republican political dream team and still managed to screw up the country.

When Presidents assemble thier team there tend to be two schools of political thought.

One is to put people you know and trust, have a lot of experience with and feel are loyal to you in place.

The other is to get the most knowledgable and qualified people you can find regardless of your personal relationship with them.

The first is what Bush did.  He used the old buddy philosophy and he got a crooked ass, insulated, deaf gang of criminals.  His dad and Ray Gun Ronnie did as well.  Grant and Harding (giant cesspools of corruption) had a smilar idea.

Clinton went the expert route.  So did JFK and FDR.  The results seem to speak for themselves.

I suppose there is a third route but its not really a philosophy.  That would be an attempt to shore up political support (in Congress usually) by appointing people to appease different political groups but that shouldn't apply to Obama since he will have both houses.

but that republican dream team was more like a nightmare. Powell was the only respectable one of the bunch, and even he got dirty in this mess. You might say that they were incompetent, but I believe they have driven the country exactly the direction they want, towards bankruptcy so we can't afford to do any social programs and they can get richer.
