Rove's High Water Mark

Water Always Runs Downhill Eventually

Excellent article in Salon about how the once-deemed masterful Rove immediately went into hyperdrive to spin the Katrina disaster into an opportunity to grind his political opponents into the wet sand. Emblematic of the way innocent human beings at home (not to mention those abroad) have suffered from this man's machinations. A great read.

He is now a brown ring on the tub of history. Or is it the toilet?

No matter what the fixture might be, it's still scum.

Rove found this guy, watching a Texas Rangers ball game, eating a bag of peanuts, and wearing his cap sideways to bring on a late inning rally. He thought to himself, "I think I can get this guy elected president someday."

He helped Bush win the Governorship of Texas twice, and the Office of The President twice.

Now then, you tell me. Is Karl Rove a masterful political consultant?

You forgot one though; by doing so he destroyed the Republican momentum.

So he's good enough to get some dipshit elected, so what?  He isn't good enough to realize, for the sake of his party, that he SHOULDN'T get him elected.

Joseph Geobbels might have been the best political operative of all time.

Whats your point?

Well said Rich, re: Goebbels. But I'd bet if we counted up the lost lives that Rove is indirectly responsible for, due to his political successes, he's be in the runner up category. It's gonna be the highlight of my summer to watch his testimony before the House Judiciary Committee in July.

who saw that American politicians weren't comfortable lying openly, but knew that lying repeatedly and openly confers an overwhelming short-term advantage. Especially if no one else is doing it. He figured out that you can make shit up, anything goes, and people will be none the wiser. It doesn't matter if some people know you're lying. Most people aren't paying that close attention. In a sense he was masterful. The problem is, he spawned a generation of washington consultants that all think the politics of division is the only way to win. It is one way to win, that works against some politicians, but not others. He was also aided greatly in these presidential elections by unimaginative leadership in the democratic party. What is most telling about Mr. Rove is that he still thinks in terms of this one insight he had while planting fake bugs in his candidate's office as a college republican--its the only idea he ever had. His party is in ruins because of his handiwork. He got burned pretty badly in '06, making outrageous claims that he had "metrics" that noone else was privy too, that contradicted polling data indicating a major blowout. He was really exposed as a huckster in that election, who couldn't look at data and interpret it dispassionately (which is supposed to be his job). Now he shows up periodically on faux news sunday to spin his crap, showing electoral maps with Oregon as a "tossup" state, and he provides me with comic relief as he blows sunshine up every republican's ass about how the democrats are going to certainly lose in '08.

It is always a convergence of ripe circumstances, isnt it, hazmat? Take enough apathy, cynicsm, greed, Murdoch, and just the right catalyst appears in the form of a chubby nerd with serious father issues. It's amazing how it all comes together from time to time over the eons, isn't it? Of course, Shirley McLaine would tell us it was the celestial aliens trying to reawaken our awareness of democracy, haha. Otherwise, I don't have any explanation why these monsters appear in the world. And I really don't have any explanation why it takes Americans so long to realize what they are up to.

The fly over by bush was a great touch.

Shows how they think.
