The Surge: Only a talking point

In every war in the 20th century called for troop increases, not surges. This "surge" is purely to have a talking point from where the White House staff and surrogates can argue a win - "Because."

A troop increase is just that; a troop increase. There's only a surge in this war because a "troop increase" is not a singular point from which the Right can argue. In other words surge backers can say "the surge" was a brilliant idea, one McCain will continue to claim as one of his sucesses as he did this morning; heard on clips from The Young Turks broadcast and others.
A good example of "the surge" being meaningless is the latest report from Iraq that re-supply lines are now safer from crippling explosions by 200%. News reports say the mining of supply routes is down to one a day today, compared to 20 a day in pre-surge days. (see how that "surge" is in there not only as accomplishing something but indeed brilliant - just ask McCain)
But, no one mentions that the more talk of troops leaving on a strict deadline tends to ease the Iraqis offense to see how much truth is in such withdrawl talk. And, as well, as the White House race heats up so do promises of a withdrawl In other words, the Iraqi politics and their fighters can see the good sense in drawing back until after the election.
In VietNam troop presense went up to 500,000 by increase after increase (surge after surge if you will) but that never stopped the Viet Cong until the last helicopter left the roof of the embassy.
This morning McCain said " ...Ive been there, I know what the Iraqis want." He really meant, 'I know whats best for them.'
