Imagine my surprise at seeing Ben's name in an entertainment news story that caught my attention on the Google news page!

Theater goes dark for Ebert, Roeper

It looks like they may want Ben to do movie reviews. The article says that he wasn't available for comment.

I think Ana, "the most awesomest entertainment reporter ever", should get him to comment on Bensday!

Edited to add:  It's not "may", it's official!  Ben's going to be At the Movies!   Congratulations to Ben!

What a great job, I'm happy for him. Ebert and Roeper were out of Chicago, but I'm guessing Ben and Ben will be filmed in L.A.?

It sucks that the article above mentioned what Ben has done but it didn't include TYT.  Ben has GOTTA find a way to mention it on At The Movies at some point.

I guess this means that he's not coming back.  Oh well, congrats Ben!  Just don't let this affect my Bensdays.

Getting paid to review movies.  I can't get past that. I hope he realizes how kick-ass that is.

It's a half hour show on once a week, so there ought to be plenty of time for Ben to drop by TYT.

That's the good news.

The bad?

Shoulda been ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!

sob sob, whine whine....

What a great job!  I think their theme song should be "Ben" by Michael Jackson of course.  Be like me Nobias, and leave comments in articles like this:  "Ben has been a frequent cohost of the progressive online talk show The Young Turks for many years and he is a great choice, but he better keep coming back for guest appearances on TYT!"

Way to go, Ben!

As part of Ben's resume.  And it cover's his family's deep rich history in the world of movies as well as his work on TCM. Its in his blood, so this is such a fabulous job for him.
Congrats to you Ben!!!!

WAY TO GO!!!!

BUT why is this NOT on the front page of TYT????

That's pretty good for a TYT reference.  But both articles I saw said Ben was the host of TYT.  Cenk gets no love. ;(

Now I can start watching the show again. I stopped when they brought Roeper on. Not because he annoyed me or anything, but because I just lost interest. The attraction of the original show was listening to two really smart guys debate the films, and once in a while when they agreed you knew it was safe to spend your 7 bucks on it (pre-1999 prices!). Roeper didn't strike me as very insightful, and way to focussed on whether films were good for family audiences. How exciting to get Ben M. in there. Scratch that--its fuckin' rad.

also added a link to TYT in the comment section

I'm torn, because I really like the show the way it is and will probably watch whatever new incarnation Roeper develops.  But Ben Mankiewicz is a pretty big draw, so I'll be watching At the Movies religiously as well.

It's ironic that Ben is going to be a movie critic when he wasn't even qualified to be the Bitter Movie Critic on TYT.  How does Dave Koller feel about being passed over for this gig?

A feud to drum up ratings!

How does it work?  Bitter Movie Critic is pretty damn good, and very rare since Dave doesn't actually watch many movies, right Dave?

It will be interesting to see Ben review movies.  I guess I will only see it if it is online since I don't watch TV.  I haven't watched Ebert since Siskel was with him.  Most of you are not probably that old!

But again, I grew up in Chicagoland, so I'm pretty sure everyone in IL is aware of them.
