An Italian glimpse into our future?

Google Technorati del.icio.us digg reddit

Most of you know that I have not trusted this notion that anyone will pursue Bush legally after he's out of office - if they won't do it when he's dangerous, why waste time when he's impotent? But this little item out of Italy might hold a glimpse into what we could expect. Don't say no one saw it coming....

"Italy's Senate on Tuesday passed into law a bill that effectively grants Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi immunity from prosecution during his time in office, the ANSA news agency reported." - Berlusconi escapes trial thanks to new immunity law

Fuckin' world leaders, anyway...

I expect an update to the Military Commissions Act to be passed with overwhelming House and Senate approval, expedited personally be House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, who will threaten a Congressional shutdown if it isn't voted on without delay. On a side note, it will contain the Bush-Cheney immunity amendment, first added in by Steny Hoyer as a triumphant compromise he acheived with the Bush Administration.

The bill, of course, will be sponsored by Barack Obama.
