Politics in Second Life

A open world for open views

With my 4 years in Second life as Taco Fackler, I have learned a lot about this crazy world made by its users. It's growing so fast in so many ways. There are so many political groups that have meetings to express there views. With 45,000+ people logged on at any given time with about 7 million “Residents”. These groups meet up in virtual coffee shops, bars and parks. Talking about the issues that not only affect us in the US but a world view as well. Forget about social networks, in Second Life your Avatars meet face to face and sit down on a couch and communicate through text or voice chat. With the ability to stream live audio and video in world, you can show your video blog or even play live music and radio shows. As for myself I have been a member of the Obama 08 group for about 7 months now.  The more people I meet the more I notice that so many people have really strong views. Even people that don't live in the US, show there passion for our political system.

I'm still a little unclear on Second Life, and haven't quite even figured out Half Life yet, but could you put on a TYT t-shirt in Second Life and get a screen capture?

I must admit, I downloaded the program once, but didn't get as far as entering.  I would like to see the place where people can get fracked by a giant horse in order to obtain a baby unicorn.

The idea is interesting, but how is having your avatars meet face to face different than just communicating to each other in a blog or forum with text, video clips, etc.?  Isn't just an extra layer of complexity that will weed out anyone who can't be bothered with the extra time and skills it takes to meet there?

Well, I don't think that it will replace Blogs and forms, ect. It is just another media that people can use to get there ideas out there. I understand that SL is sometimes hard for people to get there feet wet. SL is a lot bigger then a lot of people understand. I am still shocked for time to time what is in there. MMO like SL and othere virtual world are growing in popularty. Why get left behind? Anything that helps to get your voice out is good.

It probably just needs to reach critical mass, just like good old amazon.com did at one point.  Thanks for offering your mentor services!  Someday maybe I'll take you up on that.  (Can we include a tour to get baby unicorns?)
