Breaking News: McCain Vs. Edwards?!

Google Technorati del.icio.us digg reddit
What Do John McCain and John Edwards Have In Common?

Not much other than their first name. Then again they both spend a good deal of money to look stylish.

Remember how Republicans across America (come to think of it, it wasn't only Republicans) brought up the Edwards $400 haircut day after day after day?

Well guess what? John McCain has been wearing a $520 pair of Italian loafers. I guess this means all of those people just couldn't stop talking about 'pretty boy' Edwards being "out of touch" because he had and spent money are going to be consistent and bash McCain, right?

Or will they pretend it's COMPLETELY different. Really, is it?

Why, because the head and the feet are at opposite ends of the body? Sure, you can get an $8-12 haircut at SuperCuts or GreatClips or whatever but can't you also buy $20 shoes at PayLess? How in the world can I take McCain seriously if he spends over FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS for his shoes!

PS---Oh, and did I mention they are Italian? What, he couldn't find Strong American Shoes? I don't know, I'm starting to wonder how much he really loves America...did you know he doesn't even wear a flag pin?

You won't see women bashing candidates for these expenditures ;)  Sexist remark, I know, but I hate these types of petty attacks.  (I know that isn't your point IHNB.)

generally speaking.

I ONLY care because of the Republican tactic to label EVERY candidate "elitist" and "out of touch". Edwards was an outrageous example but you won't hear a peep out of the Edwards haters now.

PS---Has anyone seen Obama's shoes?

You're joking right, you don't even know what eom means?!

I'm kidding, I didn't know until relatively recently either. It means "end of message". I had nothing to say in the message body so I just wrote "eom".

in your case since you said it all in the subject. if it were an email i wouldn't have to open it.

eom goes in the body when the body text contains information that needs no reply.

I don't think it is outrageous for a rich man to want $500 Italian shoes.  Or for a candidate to get a $400 haircut.  They are both rich and it's all relative of course.

When Edwards got that haircut, it didn't bother me so much because these rich people live by such obscene standards every day so one more example is nothing.
In his world, there were special circumstances that mad eth ehigh cost acceptable over the regular $100.00 hair cut. That was because, as I remember it, the hair stylist was brought out to the airport to do the cut on the campaign plane. So not only was the cut paid for but the travel time for the stylist to come to the airport in compensation for lost time at the salon. In those circumstances the higher cost of the hair cut was not normal and was acceptable given the priorities that Edwards has for how he looked in the campaign. Now I don't share those priorities and think Edwards is a dandy, but that's his thing and so he shouldn't be criticized any more than everyone else who shares that life style.

They're expensive, but well worth it, because they can be reconditioned, resoled, reheeled, and last forever. That's why men buy expensive shoes. On the other hand, John Edwards is a pussy, and that's why he spends 30 minutes primping like a girl in front of the mirror. He is sickening.

by KenTX on 07/30/2008 04:39:53 PM EST

I'd venture most do quite a bit of primping before going on camera.

Want to talk sickening?  How about a man who would change the details of his heroic POW confinement and torture just to grab a few more votes in Pittsburgh.  That is truly sickening.

Here is how John Edwards prepares his hair before the camera is turned on.

John Edwards' political career is over.

If that makes you sad, then it makes me even happier.

Do we understand each other?

by KenTX on 08/01/2008 02:21:58 AM EST

[ Parent ]

Because what I'm saying to you, and what you are not understanding is that your idea of what is sickening is ridiculous.

What I am saying to you is that your guy is a disgusting liar who is willing to piss all over his POW record to grab a couple of votes in PA. This seems to be what you are not willing to understand or accept.

I have never expressed any sadness for Ecwards in this exchange. You know what makes me sad?  McCain being a sickening, disgusting, pathetic liar.

Calling Edwards playing with his hair sickening is ridiculous when compared to what McCain is done.  Keep your clue. You're painfully short of them already.

Oh, and did I mention they are Italian? What, he couldn't find Strong American Shoes?

That is hard...90+ percent of shoes are made in overseas..except some of the top end stuff.

BUT most big time politicians and business men wear Johnson and Murphy shoes. They ( except for the "foo foo" styles,)are made in the good old US of A. They are  expensive  250.00 and up, but...they last almost forever and can be be refurbished at the factory. You send in a pair , J&M reworks them for about 75$. You wear them for 5-10 more years...You send in a pair , J&M reworks them...

Bob Dole had two pair he bought in 1950..still wears em...

All of these guy wore J&Ms:

Millard Filmore, 1850
Franklin Pierce, 1853
James Buchanan, 1857
Abraham Lincoln, 1861
Andrew Johnson, 1865
Ulysses S. Grant, 1869
Rutherford B. Hayes, 1877
James A. Garfield, 1881
Chester A. Arthur, 1881
Grover Cleveland, 1885
Benjamin Harrison, 1889
William B. McKinley, 1897
Theodore Roosevelt, 1901
William Howard Taft, 1909
Woodrow Wilson , 1913
Warren G. Harding, 1921
Calvin Coolidge, 1923
Herbert Hoover, 1929
Franklin D. Roosevelt, 1933
Harry S. Truman, 1945
Dwight D. Eisenhower, 1953
John F. Kennedy, 1961
Lyndon B.Johnson, 1963
Richard M. Nixon, 1969
Gerald R. Ford, 1974
Jimmy Carter, 1977
Ronald Reagan, 1981
George Bush, 1989
Bill Clinton , 1993
George W. Bush

Quite a client list.

If they only made flip flops I'd be all set.

Hey..I have a couple of pair of J&Ms I wore when I would go on business trips. They are kinda dusty now..but before I semi retired they were pretty much all I wore.

J&M's are from a different era...if your on your feet a lot or care more about solid craftsmanship than cutting edge fashion...they are the only way to go.

I'm telling you young guys( and gals), save the coin and buy a pair of J&Ms for your "interview" shoes... not only will you feel top drawer...your potential boss will notice and immediately see a young man or woman with a solid head on his/her shoulders... and that's swell!

Ladies, don't feel left out!

by bfaul on 07/30/2008 05:23:04 PM EST

showing Edwards below the waist I'm guessing the answer to your question would be "yes", because the right wing would put it on youtube.

Just in case it's not obvious (should be but you never know) let me make it clear again that I don't give a shit about McCain's shoes.

What I *do* care about is how every dem candidate for president is slammed as an out of touch elitist, all the while Ivy League rich kid Bush gets a pass, fake red pick-up truck Fred Thompson gets a pass, McCain and his $500+ Italian loafers get a pass and the list goes on and on and on.

Either we stay away from these bullshit issues altogether OR we cover everyone equally.

Some on the left have the same attitude regarding Media Matters, NewsHounds, Crooks and Liars, BraveNewFilms and other sites that dissect conservative media bias.

Personally I LOVE those sites because I don't believe in ignoring bullshit, I believe in shining a bright light on it.

Again, the key is to raise this issue *in the context* of how Republicans always try to frame Dems as out of touch elitists. If I or someone else were to raise the issue of McCain's shoes outside of this context, then yes, I'd agree 100%, there is no reason to do it. It's petty and irrelevant.
